March 17, 201214 yr Well, our security system went off and we are in the county. It was 48 min. before the State Police showed up. Wow! Glad it wasn't for real, or anything serious. Sheriff's, nowhere to be found..... KSP does the best they can but they are spread thin and that's an understatement. When you consider the area that some of them have to cover it's amazing it doesn't take them much longer. Granted it's not what you want to hear but I think people should recognize this and be prepared for it. Not saying you weren't prepared but just saying that's my take on the situation.
March 17, 201214 yr How long does/should it take the police to show up after you report a B&E and theft? I honestly have no idea how long it should take but I waited over an hour the other day. Depends if the Cats are on or not......j/k
March 17, 201214 yr Do you live in a black neighborhood? I know what Keep It Real is talking about. In St. Louis there was the Pruett-Igo Projects. It was an high rise apartment projects for low income people. The St. Louis police department would not go into it unless they had several cops together. So if something happened in there they would wait until several officers arrived before they would go in. I think it was a safety issue more than a racial issue though.

March 18, 201214 yr Do people think there is just an unlimited number of cops on duty at all times? You assume because they weren't there in a flash that they aren't doing their job. What if every cop on duty was tied up handling something already? Or at least any cop that is close. Also timing would play a huge part. If you reported a B&E at 8:00am on a Tuesday you would probably have 10 cops show up in less then 10 mins. Report the same thing at 10:00PM on Friday night and you could wait awhile.
March 18, 201214 yr Calls are prioritized. A disturbance will likely get a priority 1 ranking. If someone calls to report an accident that occurred on a parking lot, they will be asked if there are any injuries. If there aren't any, and it's not interfering with traffic flow, it's not an emergency. Dispatchers are the ones who dictate where and when police go somewhere. Unless the dispatcher tells the officers, they may not even know a call is holding.

Law enforcement is one of them. The original poster never did post back as to if the break in was IN PROGRESS or discovered after the fact, which would be an important point to know. I think that this is just a case of wanting to diss on law enforcement.

I just wanted to start a simple conversation. Isn't that was this forum is all about? As for the facts of the case. I have no idea when the break in occured. I am a contractor who inspects and does work on foreclosed housing and I walked in the property and noticed a door was kicked it and the washer and dryer were missing. I didn't walk through the rest of the house to see if people were still in the property or not because I don't really want to interrupt someone who is stealing something. I walked back outside to my car and called the police.
March 18, 201214 yr For the most part is a thankless job, until someone actually needs there tail saved. Usually it's people who have little idea what cops deal with who are the first to criticize or question every decision the officer makes.

It took me calling you out 40 posts and 2 days later before you decided to answer any of them. Those were important points to know. Perhaps it is posts in other threads, but you seem to be painting yourself into a pretty selfish portrait. The police take too long, the weather warning sirens go off too much...what's next?
