March 16, 201214 yr How long does/should it take the police to show up after you report a B&E and theft? I honestly have no idea how long it should take but I waited over an hour the other day.

Where you are, what time you report it, whether or not the theft just occurred, how many police officers are on duty at the moment, what else is going on in the city you report the theft, etc. If the theft didn't just occur, there's really no reason for the police to respond all that quickly. And if they responded as fast as possible there would be someone complaining about them driving too fast without their lights on :lol:.

Just curious, how would you really know when the B&E with theft occurred? Maybe thief is in area breaking in a series of dwellings, as is what happened where I live, and was caught a few streets over due to the quick response of the police. Over an hour to respond seems long to me.

Over an hour to respond seems long to me. Only way to really know, I would think, is if the victim saw the person stealing the item. I'd say that doesn't happen too often. Regardless, it's hard to say how long it should take for the police to respond without knowing a lot of other information that I mentioned above. The police officer that responded to this specific theft might have been the only officer available at the time and he could have been tied up on something else...who knows.

March 16, 201214 yr I wish Keep It Real would explain what his comment was about. I'm hoping he's got a good reason for dropping that on here. I just can't figure out what the good reason could be. As far as the situation, it does seem like a long time. I don't know much about law enforcement other than they give me tickets periodically lol.

If you can give us more detail on what happened prior to calling the police and give us the details of the conversation between you and the dispatcher when you called it would help a lot and we can probably answer this for you. Also, was this KSP (often slow as Xmas) or a local police department?
March 17, 201214 yr Well, our security system went off and we are in the county. It was 48 min. before the State Police showed up. Wow! Glad it wasn't for real, or anything serious. Sheriff's, nowhere to be found.....
March 17, 201214 yr I am fortunate enough to live in a relatively low crime area. My neighbor's alarm has gone off once or twice and the police are there in a few minutes. On the other hand, I work in a large urban hospital. You would not believe the stupid reasons people call 911, grossly overusing the police in that city. I can't imagine how many important 911 calls have delayed responses due to the misuse of 911. No matter where you live, you should always vote for any bills supporting police and fire fighters.

March 17, 201214 yr Sorry for the delay. I was out watching games. Surprised a bit by the reaction as many blacks who live in black neighborhoods will tell you that responses are not the fastest to their part of the world as it might be to other neighborhoods. My question seemed fair.
