12th Region Rankings and Review - Week 2

 

Week 2 in the 12th Region was another great week of high school basketball. We saw some early district match-ups in the 47th and 48th Districts, Southwestern remains the only undefeated team left in the 12th Region, Peyton Gover is making a statement in this early season averaging 30 points per game in his first six games, and Steven Fitzgerald was unstoppable in Pulaski’s win over Casey County as he put up a 42 point performance. All of this and more in this week’s 12th Region review.

 

 

12th Region Rankings:

 

1) Pulaski County (3-1) – It was the Steven Fitzgerald shows in the Maroons win over Casey County Friday night. He dominated the game as he dropped in 42 point in the 92-79 win over the Rebels. Pulaski moves to the top of the 47th District with this early season win. The Maroons also got an 85-81 win over Henry Clay in the Kentucky Bank Shootout in Bourbon County the following night. Pulaski Takes on Wayne County and Garrard County this week before heading to Pikeville for the Pikeville Invitational.

 

2) Southwestern (6-0) – The Warriors are making their claim as the top team in the 12th Region as they continue to win with lights out shooting. Peyton Gover is averaging just shy of 30 points per game on 55% shooting from the field. Peyton Cundiff is adding around 22 point per game for the Warriors while shooting 53% from 3-point range. The Warriors remain perfect on the season with wins over Casey County, Wayne County, and Marion County this past week. Southwestern plays in the Kentucky Bank Challenge this week in Rowan County.

 

3) West Jessamine (3-1) – The Colts rolled off 3 straight wins to start the season but lost at Bardstown in their Tip-Off Classic 66-69. West Beat Danville earlier in the week 80-60. Kendall Peters led scoring for the Colts with 24 points and Isaiah Okesson added 21 in the win over the Admirals. The Colts will open 46th District play as they host rival Mercer County Friday night.

 

4) Lincoln County (3-2) – The Patriots split a pair of games this week beating Wayne County 69-59, but lost to Madison Southern 63-67. In the win over Wayne County, Noah Young put in 25 points while Chase Phillips added 21 points. Lincoln County is hoping to move up in the rankings this week as they host West Jessamine Tuesday night.

 

5) Rockcastle County (3-2) – The Rockets got a big win in double overtime over 47th District rival Somerset 69-66 (2OT). Jordan Hawkins put in 24 points and John Cornelius added 16 in the win. The Rocket lost the next night to a very good Corbin team 65-67. Rockcastle County could be dangerous come tournament time. The Rockets continue their 47th District play as they travel to Casey County this week.

 

6) Mercer County (3-2) – The Titans split a pair of games this week as they beat 12th Region opponent Casey County 99-85 but lost to Paris 68-76 in out of region competition. In the Win over Casey County, Trevon Faulkner led all scores with 30 points while Garrett Dean added 24 points for the Titans. It’s all about 46th District play this week as Mercer County hosts East Jessamine then travels to West Jessamine for a big rivalry game.

 

7) Boyle County (2-2) – After dropping their first two games of the season, the Rebels have won two games in a row over East Jessamine 70-63 and Knox Central 83-73. In the win over Knox Central, Bryce Slone led the way with 34 points while Reese Smith chipped in 15 points. The Rebels travel to North Hardin then finish the week at home versus Lexington Christian.

 

8) Wayne County (1-3) – The Cardinals dropped two games last week to 12th Region competition. They lost to Lincoln County 59-69 and district rival Southwestern 66-89. Stetson Simpson led scoring for Wayne County versus Southwestern with 14 points. The Cardinals host 12th region power Pulaski County and then travel to Danville this coming week.

 

9) McCreary Central (2-1) – The Raiders played in the Bowman Classic this weekend where they split a pair of games beating Barbourville 69-63 but lost to Lynn Camp 54-57. This week they host Somerset and travel to Whitley County to take on Williamsburg in the Edgewood Supercenter Hardwood Classic.

 

10) Somerset (1-3) – The Jumpers got their first win of the season over Glasgow 92-58 after dropping their first two last week. They fell in a thriller to Rockcastle 66-69 (2TO) in 47th District play. The Jumpers have a busy week ahead as the play another 47th District game versus Casey County, travel to McCreary Central, then play in the Ellman Contracting Garrard Holiday Classic over the weekend.

 

11) Casey County (0-5) – The Rebels are still looking to get their first win of the season after dropping three 12th Region games last week to Southwestern 84-90, Mercer County 85-99, and Pulaski County 79-92. Casey has played a tough early schedule getting them ready for this week’s district match-ups at Somerset and at home versus Rockcastle County.

 

12) East Jessamine (1-5) – After winning their first game of the season, the Jaguars have dropped five straight games losing this week to Boyle County 63-70, Estill County 65-73, and Beechwood 62-68. East will play 46th District rival Mercer County before heading to Rowan County to play in the Kentucky Bank Challenge versus Bath County and Greenup County.

 

13) Danville (0-3) – The Admirals lost two games this week against West Jessamine 60-80 and at Spencer County 49-66. Danville hopes to right the ship this week as they host both Anderson County and Wayne County before playing this weekend in the Ellman Contracting Garrard Holiday cLassic.

 

14) Garrard County (1-3) – The Golden Lions pick up their first win of the season over Hazard 48-43. They lost earlier in the week to Washington County 55-77. Garrard will be playing at Pulaski County, hosting Whitley County, the hosting the Ellman Contracting Garrard Holiday Classic this week.

 

15) Burgin (0-6) – The Bulldogs are still hoping to get their first win of the season after losing to Campbellsville 57-76 and Robertson county 38-54. They host Model and play at Silver Grove this week.

 

16) Kentucky School f/t Deaf (1-6) - The Colonels went to Pennsylvania and played in the WPSD HC Classic. They gave a great effort but lost to all three out of state schools. The Colonels are finished for Christmas break and will resume play January 6, 2017 when the host the Kentucky Classic.
