When fastpitch softball pitchers get an 0-2 count on a batter, do you think you set them up and try to get them to fish for something in their eyes or low and off the plate? Or do you go right at them?

Conner 10, NDA 0 - Kelsey looked good, not dominating as NDA has some well hit at 'em balls.

That's if they don't run Track...Villa is too small to sustain multiple Spring sports.

How about Slusher not playing this year for Beechwood? Understand he's going to UC on football scholarship and red shirting. Should be a blow to Beechies.

Give Sanders a chance and he'll figure out a way to ruin the good arms by overuse.

:confused: Pretty sad that they are struggling to field a team just 3 years removed from a District Championship. When Meier started the program, they played 8th graders year in and year out who often wound up at CCH (Quast, Sutton, Ford, etc.) or Beechwood (Neumann, Potter, etc.). The last several years there, Meier always had them competitive (above .500), developed pitching, and even had a JV program which helped things remain consistant. I know there are plenty of boys in the school. Why has the program regressed so quickly? From what I understand, Welte (who helped Meier) and Sawyers (???) are decent.

Villa usually has good talent but their lack of schedule strength hurt them year in and year out. The Holy Cross win is solid, especially after HC beat Holmes. Maybe this team, unlike teams in the past, is used to the speed and tempo of playing with the big schools.

Society's perception that athletes must play year round, which is not getting pushed down to elementary (4th, 5th, 6th grades), is ABSURD!!!! If this topic was restricted to strictly high school age groups, that would be different, but even then these kids need a break. These kids, especially those with talent for multiple sports, should play different sports throughout the year. It protects them from repetitive motion injuries caused by playing one sport month in and month out. It also reduces the chance for burnout. AAU, Junior Olympic, Summer Camps, Year round leagues at these new "family" fun centers, lessons, etc. have a primary focus, to make money off the parents. Let's face facts - many of these athletes that are pushed by their hovering, micromanaging parents are not going to make varsity, much less play college or the pros. Yet, every year we read about athletes pushing their bodies to the limits. The high schools, especially smaller ones, actually lose out by not letting talented students play multiple sports. Discipline, work ethic, teamwork, skills, fundamentals, etc. should be the focus of sports. Somewhere along the line society lost their focus and started concentrating on trophies and scholarships, at all levels, sports, and age groups.

Max learned to throw his "ace" in the first round after throwing off so many years prior. Speaks volumes to how far Villa has come. Congrats to the Colonels and good luck against Lloyd. Nice run by the Villa seniors....Reis, Neal, and Hamilton - good bunch of kids.
