Had a conversation with someone, regarding Pitch Counts. He mentioned, that a "he was told", that a Hopkinsville pitcher had an unbelievably high pitch count total, during the District.

 

Anyone with information or can verify this?

I believe in another thread this was mentioned and if I recall right the pitch count number was in the 180s I believe?

 

Also a kid from Nicholas County threw 176 pitches in a 8 inning win over Mason County in the 1st round of the 10th region tournament

He indicated, the number was in the 180's but I couldn't believe it.

 

I wasn't aware, of the 176 pitch total, for a Nicholas County pitcher. Those numbers, are simply staggering if accurate.

Justin Hageman threw 184 pitches in the district final against Christian County. Nine innings in a tie game. Struck out 17. Didn't appear to lose any command or velocity throughout. Hageman is a hard-throwing sophomore and the ace of the staff.

 

Christian County's Tyler Gilliliand (WKU bound) threw 148 pitches in the same game. He also pitched nine innings. He also looked just as good in the ninth inning as he did the first. I can verify the pitch count totals because I was there and counting.

 

While I'm not condoning the pitch count, keep in mind that Christian County and Hopkinsville are fierce rivals in everything from baseball to badmitten. Hopkinsville has not won a district title since 1986 and everyone felt this year's team had a chance to end that streak. And it's a streak that's been talked about in the community.

 

Hoptown's #2 pitcher threw a complete game in the tourney opener and there is a drop-off after that.

I can understand a pitcher saying that his arm is fine and that it can take that kind of outing but at such a young age nothing but bad things can come from it.

 

I might be able to understand it a little bit more as they progressed through college and possibly further but still not even in the collegiates or the majors do we hear of these numbers either for the most part.

They might not have dropped off any and even maintained, but absolutely an unbelievable amount of pitches by each.

At any level of competition or tournament play, that is absolutely unforgiveable judgement by the coaches, especially for the sophomore.
