Go Forward
Nichols pitches 7 strong innings and Dixie played a great game. Villa was very prepared and the kids played a heck of a game. A team that has only 14 players and 5 are between the 7th grade and a freshman gave a collge pitcher all he can handle. The Villa sqaud ran a walk off play in the 5th to tie the game at 2. The play made Nichols balk, but the Colonels did a great job coming back and putting 2 on the board. Both teams played well. Good Luck to Dixie in the region!!! goallout25
Nichols had 18 strikeouts of the 21 outs. The three other outs came from a caught stealing, a popup to the pitcher and a lineout to right field.

Sounds like Villa made quite a nice showing for themselves nonetheless, so congrats to them also.
goallout25
They definitely did. Villa responded the second time through the lineup after they went down to 9 straight strikeouts for the first 3 innings but Dixie just had another answer for both times Villa tied the game at 1 then at 2. Senior Will Ries threw a great game on the mound for the Blue Lightning and had the Dixie hitters off balance for most of the game.
dixievb07
Max learned to throw his "ace" in the first round after throwing off so many years prior. Speaks volumes to how far Villa has come. Congrats to the Colonels and good luck against Lloyd. Nice run by the Villa seniors....Reis, Neal, and Hamilton - good bunch of kids.
goallout25
I think Max learned his lesson a few years ago when he threw off and got beat by Lloyd in the first round in 2006. Have to win the first one then let the chips fall where they may. Should be a great championship game tomorrow night! Add Reser and Kreinest to those Villa seniors as well. Definitely great kids, who played their hearts out for the Blue Lightning during their careers!
BredFan
Congrats to Dixie on the win. Congrats to Villa on a fine season. With only having 14 players, three of whom are in middle school, Villa rose to the occasion. The Rob has done a fantastic job in making them winners and believers. Max threw his ace last year as well against Villa in the first round. That man was Matt Nichols. Matt is one heck of a ballplayer that I have had the opportunity to play with. If he stays true to the game he can go far.
Big League Chew
It really was a good game as Villa had a legitimate chance to win it and they were well prepared. Nichols was just pitching at a different level that night as I believe he was hitting 90 mph in the first couple innings. Good season for the Blue Lightning and good luck to Dixie.
