Lone Oak's defense is nowhere near as good as it was last year and could be the Achilles Heal for the team when it's all said and done. Agree that their offense is more balanced this year. But, the bulk of the rushing looks like it's coming from QB Brown.

Calloway dominated the first half but squandered two scores (fumble on the 3, dropped TD pass) and that set the table for Marshals with 13-9 halftime lead. Questionable 4Q call on kickoff lateral took the last steam out of Calloway and two late TOs made it worse than final score. Marshall took advantage of CC mistakes. Seay and Madding carried the load for Marshall to overcome nearly 350 passing yards for Brockman, Willis and Co. Important win for Marshall and dissapointing giftwrap from Calloway. Lakers must regroup for Friday clash with Lone Oak.

Thanks for bringing this thread back around to what it was intended - Marshall vs. Calloway. Plenty of time to talk about Calloway-Lone Oak next week. This will be a high scoring affair, Lakers 42 - Marshall 31.

The game outcome either way won't be because the Lakers are thinking ahead. They are very focused on one game at a time, looking to improve each week. Marshall this week. Coach McKeel's rule: remember it for 24 hours. Then move on to the next game: Lone Oak.

Time for Calloway to amp up offensively. They've been playing banged up and short-handed, but looks like this week they should be at full strength. Question becomes if their QB-REC timing is finally back. Lakers must stop Marshall QB Denver Seay and MCHS must stop Laker air assault and Willis on the ground. Should be lots of points and very entertaining. Calloway has not played well, but still managed to win. They've got to get it going this week.

All Calloway. Lakers score first. Crittenden answers for 7-6. Lakers dominate, as expected. CC drops 3 more TD passes or score would have been much more lopsided. The slippery fingers on receivers have to be solved with Marshall and Lone Oak coming up. Lakers offense still trying to get in the groove with players returning each week to normal positions.

Saw Hoptown play Marshall. If Hoptown doesn't have any better coverage than that and LO only scored 24 on them, I very suspect of Lone Oak's passing game. Willis from Calloway seems to be a different player this season. If he continues to improve each game and starts to reach his potential it signals much success for the Lakers. Brown has the running ability, but he has yet to face much defensively. His only tests come against Calloway and Hopkins Central. True, the reality of all of these speculations will become clear in the near future.

Unbelievably entertaining game. Dissapointing either team had to drop this one. Tied 14 at half and 21 at end of 3Q. Trigg leads 28-27 at 4:00 mark (missed PAT by CC). Lakers get it back with 1:40 to go and march 65 yards in under a minute for win. Injury plagued Lakers pull rabbit out of hat again with one-minute scoring drive. Tyrrell Willis played like a beast for second straight week with 2 rec TDs (including game winner) and a 40 yard rushing TD (had a 70 yarder called back). Brockman tosses 3 TDs (200+ yds, no INTs) under pressure all night. Trigg much improved from last week with starting RB and WR White healthy and in game all night. CC stays on winning track and will improve steadily with all the right pieces (Williams, Burks, Garner) healthy and back in place in the next week or two, just in time to start district play. Congrats to both teams for tremendous game in Wildcat Chevrolet Bowl nightcap - finished about 11:15 pm.

Heard that Critt's RB Robertson left in the first half with broken hand. The seemed to take any starch out of the Rockets.

Murray was impressive tonight despite Calloway being very short-handed. Brockman surprised everybody and came back at Laker QB after 5 weeks in a cast on left hand and was pretty sharp (250 yards, 2 TDs). Tigers were solid and will win their 2A district. They have much more line size than Trigg and Caldwell and plenty of skill players. Shikill Davis outshined Jamie King in Murray's backfield. Unusual to see a team run the wishbone these days. Exciting HS game for the huge crowd of 5,000+. This was a big rivalry win for CC that was iffy going in due to numerous injuries. CC will be vastly improved when their missing starters come back in the next week couple of weeks and will be a force in 4A.

Murray will try to control the clock with their ground game. They air attack is very suspect and it looks like they've settle on wishbone in their scrimmages. The best way to keep Calloway's high-powered offense in check is keep them off the field. Murray has a big line, but the heat will be a factor. The local media is calling Brockman's status game-time decision. If he plays, Calloway wins. Murray will be better than most think. Calloway does have two other important starters out for another week or two, which could keep the game close - in the 1-2 TD range. Good luck to both this season.

Word is that Lone Oak's def is going to be very suspect - from most all close to the program to those who have seen them this year so far. Murray is going to be better then many think. Looks like Murray got to play Hoptown after they'd had a big half vs. LO, so Hoptown might have been a bit worn out. Someone confirm otherwise to the order of play.

Agree on the Tilghman-Christian Co. game. Knew there was another out there that was large -this was it.

Two best opening weekend games in WKY: Mayfield at Fort Campbell (two projected strong teams) Murray at Calloway (played at MSU, Lakers favored although injured, but big rivalry) Trigg at Hopkinsville (two ranked teams, Hoptown motivated to avenge last year's loss)

It was reported that the score was 3-2 Christian in the varsity. Not bad for Calloway considering they were without their QB. Had to have limited their offensive capabilities. How good is Christian Co. supposed to be this year?

That wouldn't shock me either, but any team has to get some breaks along the way for something special like that to happen. Still don't think Mayfield stacks up well against Calloway for this fall. And, the game's at Calloway this year. Good luck to the Lakers. See if they can be the "feel good" team of the season in WKY like Lone Oak was last year.

WESTKY - how about 8-2 or 9-1 for Lakers? Trigg and Mayfield both had big time graduation hits and CC beat Mayfield by 35 last season. CC looks to have most all of their big offensive guns back. No way Murray-Calloway is a tossup on paper, but it is a big rivalry game. Hop Central will be their biggest test.

The BGP poll was published in the Murray Ledger & Times on Tuesday. Think Calloway's about where they should be at #9. Could maybe be a notch higher. They do have LOTS of weapons offensively. Key will be defensive improvement, which should be apparent too.

The history data is nice, but means nothing to the kids playing this year, other than maybe that the series is tied at 12-12 (according to the Murray Ledger & Times). Don't think the Laker stats are accurate. The KHSAA stats only has them down for 11 games, so the totals will be higher for all CC players. I know Garner had 17 TDs, Brockman 31 passing.

Already a thread on this topic not too far down. To answer your questions: Brockman, King/Willis is a tossup, Garner (Therrell is gone, so Dobbins is a close #2 on that list of three).

Agree with much of your assessment, except for lumping Crittenden in the weak category this year. But, Murray's passing game does not match up anywhere near Calloway's.

Opponents blitzed Calloway all last season - and it didn't slow the passing game down too much. The QB was in his first year at and got better at reads and avoiding pressure with each game. The excellent receiving corp opens up the ground game for Calloway, whether Willis plays or not (betting he will). The Lakers will have a good ground game with Jordan Bumpus and Austin Hargrove - two players who got better with each game last year. Willis just brings the beast factor and makes the Lakers that much better on both sides of the ball.

Murray committed to stopping Willis and ground game last year and was successful in that game until CCHS pulled it out late. The Lakers tossed out the rushing game plan at the half and turned to the pass in the second half (and rest of the season) and moved at will. Expect Laker team #s to be up off of a good season and this year's high expectations. Calloway offense will be very difficult for anybody to stop with its balance. But, Murray will be improved too this season and has great back in Jamie King. But, I predict Calloway pulls away in 2nd half to take the lead in the all-time series, which is tied at 12 wins each, I think.
