Dustin May- Last year at Belfry...... but I think Fugate is a step or two faster but not as strong yet as Dustin. For the record, May wound up at Georgetown. Durrell White who played for Middlesboro/Bell County is alsoa favorable comparison except White was a bit bigger and wound up playing DE at UK.

Belfry better expect to play a very focused Russell team tonight that will be ready to play their best ball of the season. BUT.... Belfry, by all indications are chomping at the bit for tonight and they have some revenge on their mind, let alone the feeling of unfinished business left in Louisville. Belfry 28 Russell 10

The team I feel the most sorry for in all of this is Paintsville H.S. Not only are they not getting any attention, but their name no longer has relevance since Johnsonville is the more commonly known name of the town. If JC keeps making deep runs the Chamber of Commerce may need to formally change names to cash in on the publicity.

This will be real fun next week if JC and Highlands play...

Because I am a Belfry fan, not a SC fan.

Geez we all know it is completely unfair for a smaller public school to have to play larger public schools!

Additionally, these numbers could be even more impressive in terms of how Belfry struggles when giving up over 24 points... instead of being 6-5 you could easily say they were 2-5. West Carter- 08 Belfry had starters pulled before end of 3rd Quarter Breathitt- 07 Belfry won 62-28 and Breathitt added a late score on JV Pike Central- 07 Belfry had starters pulled by end of 3rd Quarter Middlesboro- 06 Belfry won 49-26 and Middlesboro added a late score

:eek: Two of those 4 losses when alowing under 24 points though were 20-14 and 19-0 defeats to Russell the last two times they played them.

After last week's close win they need some positive affirmation.

The players mentioned plus Belfry's Thomas Varney. 1000 yard rusher, he also has scored in his career receiving, returning punts, returning kickoffs, kicking XP's, returning interceptions. He also is Belfry's punter, holds the XP when not kicking, and is the second best passer on belfry's team.

Wow this was a very good article....and I think it would make for a VERY interesting feature piece to compare the culture of the teams and their fan bases who competed in the 2A, 3A, and 4A State Title games last year. 2A Fort Campbell vs. Newport Central Catholic 3A Belfry vs. Lou. Central 4A Lone Oak vs. Lexington Catholic All three games had teams from nearly completely different cultural backgrounds

Those dreaded 1 over 4 upsets seem to happen every year!:lol:

I wouldn't expect a SC fan to pick anything else... it is programmed in the Martin County DNA. (This is completely tongue in cheek) Pre-Season: Praise Belfry, but say SC is a Dark Horse Mid-Season: Say how SC is better than last year and this is the year they beat Belfry Belfry Game: Watch record number of people start crowing hwo Belfry is overrated and going down Week After Belfry Game: Explain how Belfry is a great team but point out excuses why SC lost and mention how they want to see a rematch. Some SC fan posts the JV score which SC usually wins and insist "how the future looks bright" Playoffs: Mention how SC has improved and wants another piece of Belfry, while picking Belfry to lose every game, if the two are ready to play again then pick SC to beat Belfry. After 2nd Belfry Game: Explain how Belfry is a great team and how they will win State, and that this was supposed to be a down year for SC and next year they will beat Belfry because they have defeated them in JV games.

I see you caught my retirement misspelling..... Nice breakdown on the Royals... I just dont see SC having the firepower to take this one. Sheldon Clark will have a nice ballclub next year, but this year they are simply a good 3A team. Hopefully they can beat MC up a little bit in case Belfry has to play them next week.

I know Mason is a good team with a surplus of speed and athleticism, but I don't know alot more about them yet. I can tell you this is what Mason will get out of Sheldon Clark. - Big team, not alot of speed, but tons of strength - A powerful RB in Kelley who always falls forward for yards - Physical defense - Coach who has a pension for taking big chances that either blow up in his face or can single handidly turn a game around. - A team who has dominated in their wins, but got absolutely obliterated in their losses to the #1 3A and 4A teams. - A young QB who can scramble and make plays with his arm, but who struggles under pressure. - Ability to milk clock and gain 3-4 yards a pop.... If Mason loses the battle up front and gets too cute on offense this will be close game and condusive to a SC win... But... if Mason uses their speed to spread SC out, and bring heat on defense they should win this one by 3 TD's...

I'm curious to hear this answer myself. I think the two teams are very comparable. The QB Dillon seems to run the Bone a little better than Ratliff IMO, but doesn't have the arm. Conversely, Ian Welch can make up for the lack of arm with his ability to make circus catches. They don't have the big play ability of Grim, but Richardson/Dillon are more versatile and have the ability to grind out the tough yards. They don't have the standout FB like the Blake Johnson kid was, but I think their o-line is better this season which offsets his lead blocking. Defensively, I would give the edge up front to the 2006 team, but this Eagle team is much more better suited for passing teams as Welch is a top notch DB.

HAHA.. you see where my thoughts lie with the Belfry/Russell game this week.

At this point #14 knew that all those years of Karate had finally paid off when #33 got a little too close.
