  1. I had the fortunate opportunity to play and coach for Tom Stellman. I would just like to say that he is one of the finest people I know. He cares tremendously about every player on the team, and is just a fun loving guy to be around. I was one that personally thought that he would never retire because he just loved doing this so much, regardless of what kind of record he had that season. Tom were gonna miss you here at Conner. And I'm sure the media will miss you too, lol. GO COUGARS!!!!!:dancingpa
  2. No. Mike Helmig was an assistant coach for Tom the last 5 years.
  3. Say what you want, but the loss of Elbert at QB and Bishop & Haught in the backfield will hurt more than you think. I believe us Conner fans said the same thing two years ago when we lost Trevor Stellman at quarterback. When you lose a quarterback that was a 3 yr. starter in a program, and as productive as he was, that is a huge blow to year team. No matter how good the guys are behind him.
  4. The game should be over by now, anybody got a Final on it???
  5. Anyone know how the game is going out in Alexandria?
  6. What do you mean by that statement? By what I saw it wasn't a very easy win for Holmes. They had to work to get that W. Truthfully that game could have easily gone either way.
  7. My mistake. I did not catch the final two points that Holmes put on Conner. I left with a little over a minute to go and it was still 13-8.
  8. Conner played really good defense for 3 quarters. They just got tired and didn't have enough depth. Conner still had chances to win in the 4th quarter after the safety and just kept shooting themselves in the foot. On a side note, Kyle Scroggins looked amazing tonight. I think if he keeps up with what he was doing tonight, people are going to know this kid by the end of the season. It was a good and clean game on both sides of the ball. I was happy to see no one from either side of the ball loose there cool out there. Holmes had one late hit out of bounds in the 4th quarter, but I don't think that it was anything really intentional. Both teams were playing really hard and aggressive. It was good game to watch if you like a real defensive struggle. Good luck to both teams as the play out the remainder of the season.
  9. Very much agree. It won't be a high scoring affair. This will be the best defense that Holmes has faced to date.
  10. Last year Holmes team speed did not beat Conner. Conner beat Conner in that game. Conner made way to many mistakes on both sides of the ball, and you can't do that with against a team that is that fast. Don't get me wrong, those boys can run with the best of them. But I think you'll see a much more discipline Conner team this year and it should stay close. Conner's one loss was to Highlands (who would/will beat everyone up here like that). Don't count out Conner in this one, trust me.
  11. You forgot about Lance Durbin from Conner. He was voted to play in the game. I don't know if he will because of Young Life camp. Also, I had heard that Evan Reilly injured his ACL again. Will he be able to play?
  12. Wouldn't that make the playoffs all that more exciting.:thumb:
  13. Yes and no one in our district will have that kind of team speed this season. The season Dixie beat them, I would bet that Trinity was a faster team, it just happened to be Dixie's night. If you have more guts than the other team then a lot of times that's enough to win.
  14. Shane will actually be a Senior this year, he was a Junior last year. As far as a quarterback goes, that is open to some opinion. There are a few canidates for the job, with no clear idea as of right now who will win it. If I were a bettin' man, I would say Arie Gibson, but I don't even really know if he'll do it or not. But, there is still plenty of time to figure out who'll take over the reigns. The other two canidates for the job both play baseball so they didn't get any time during Spring Ball.
  15. Then you obviously don't know who Arie Gibson and Charles Norris are. Like I said before, it's too early to tell what will happen this season. I think with the talent they have they are a playoff contender. SK made it to the playoffs last year with not a whole lot of team speed. Campbell Co. (who I thought was one of the best teams we played last year) didn't have a whole lot of it either. Speed kills I know, but heart, hard work, and determination will carry a team just as far sometimes.
  16. As for Conner: 4 returning starting Lineman that really started to jell as the season progressed. (Evan Draper, Alex Cote, Andrew Hill, and Zack Ryle). Shane Taylor RB/LB Kyle Scroggins RB/LB Brian Samad RB/LB Charles Norris WR/DB Arie Gibson RB,QB/DB Rashad Brown WR/DB I believe, along with what is coming up to along with them, that this group of players should make an impact this season and battle for one of the top 4 spots this season. Remember its only April, nobody has won anything yet.
  17. I agree. But don't count out Conner to compete for one of those playoff spots as well. They return quite a bit of experience from last years team. They will be older and wiser. They return 4 starting lineman from last year, as well as the backfield (minus the qb). They have a load of talent at the skill positions and it has been a pleasent spring practice session over in Hebron.
  18. The rosters may have been picked, but they haven't been announced yet.
  19. You are actually wrong on that. It was printed in the Boone County Recorder that he received an appointment to the West Point Academy as well as the Naval Academy.
  20. Lance Durbin of Conner won the 2006 That's My Boy award. Congrats to him and all of his accomplishments. Still no word on if he's going to play at the next level or not. I know he did receive an appointment to West Point, but don't know if he accepted it or not.
  21. K.J. is an amazing athlete. I saw him play against Conner, and he was a one man wrecking crew. With a good supporting cast, he could go on to be a great player. WKU would be a great fit for him.
  22. Most players at place like G-Town don't get to play until they are Juniors or Seniors anyway. Thats why they play J.V. games as well.
  23. I think Highlands should have another nice season on their hands (as they always do anyways). They return most of their team and one of their QB's too I believe. Cov Cath I know returns a few starters from last year. I know the lose Drew Ellison, but #15 (not sure on the name) looked like he was pretty good quarterback when I saw them play a couple times last season.
  24. I agree. Erik Ainge had a great Freshman season before injuring his shoulder (don't know if the played a part in his downfall this last season or not). Rick Clausen was pretty good too that year, as well as Schaeffer. Lets not forget that Schaeffer is the #1 rated JUCO player this year. Doesn't change his off field antics. I think Justin we'll be fine at N.C. St. He is pretty good in his own right. There is no doubt he would have his hands full with Schaeffer, especially if Brent can keep his nose clean.
