Ryle has been steaky all year... In this current streak they are getting the hits at the right time, which was a problem earlier in the season. If you get people on base you have to cash in. Last night was a good example..Meier goes 3-3 with a homer, Carney goes 2-3 with a double knocking in 2.Takeda &Hempel continue to hit, Lonkard hits and gets on base from the leadoff position and it all adds up to runs. If Ryle continues to hit to go along with their solid pitching and defense, they will be a tough draw in the district tournament.

You are correct on the term "bomb"... that is the longest homer I have seen hit at Ryle. Not sure of the measurement on it but I will say some of the farm animals across the street were worried for a moment.:scared:

He has indeed swung the bat well lately. He always seems to have a good at bat...little things like the 15 pitch at bat (ending up in a walk) he had a week or so ago make a big difference. Yoshi has been more than a pleasant surprise for the Raiders.

Final Ryle scores a bunch in the first few innings and then cruises for the victory. Imai and Hempel give a solid pitching performance...

You actually picked the wrong player to throw out the "pitch around" argument. Maile would be the one who has a grip when it comes to that practice, and for multiple years. I think Hunter is a solid ballplayer but just does not play the same caliber of schedule that CovCath plays, not his fault just reality. To me Darner is the POY this year to this point, but there still is some season left.

I believe what KyTiger was speaking of is the debate of why it is difficult for a player from a smaller school who play a less difficult schedule to win POY.

This is the very point why there is no comparison...when you play multiple games vs the top 15 ranked teams in the state and the top teams from the 9th a .500 BA is legit. While it is a excellent feat to even hit .500 against your buddies down the street the difference in the quality of the pitching is vast.

Final Ryle took advantage of some fielding miscues by Brossart with some timely hits, and gets a solid pitching performance by both Rodgers and Donovan to record the win.

They are a couple games under .500. I believe 10-12 with 7 losses coming to top 15 rankings in the state poll, and 5 of those are by 2 runs or less. Just can't seem to come out on top in these bigger games. They have played a very difficult schedule this year, probably the toughest in schedule in NKY.

That is exactly what I am saying...Conner took advantage of Ryle's miscues and Ryle didn't take advantage. Also, as said earlier in the thread Conner deserved to win this game because they did what was needed at the key times, and yes that is how to play the game.

Really in just two games... Cov Cath the other night and Tates Creek in an errorfest. If you were at this game the 8-3 score really wasn't a beating, Connor took advantage of every Ryle miscue. Ryle was winning 2-0 into the 4th. They have played 5 games this year against teams rated in the top 15 in the state, and in 4 of those lost by 2 runs or less. Hitting has been a an issue for sure.

He has been injured for the whole season...I believe there is a chance he will be able to come back and hit before the season ends.

Conner Hempel- Ryle Sophmore 3b/1b/P 48 at bats .450 BA 3 dbls 2 triples 1 HR 5 AP 17+ innings 1-1 record ERA 1.62 Probably not the best at any one position in NKY yet, but he is probably the best sophmore in NKY, and has been Ryle's best overall player so far this year. Overall he has done an adequate job fielding the ball this year but some work needs to be done in that area. I will predict that he will be in the running for POY in 2010 and will win it 2011.

Ryle chose the wrong two days to play Conner tough before this district seeding game. Ryle had a 2-0 lead going into the 4th in this game and didn't make the plays needed to win. If Ryle doesn't make a miscue with 2 men on and two outs in the the 4th up 2-0 this could have been a different game. Conner made Ryle pay for every mistake. I give due credit to Conner's pitching tonight, they threw a lot of strikes. Hitting is a huge issue right now, and has been all year for Ryle, and will continue unless some changes are made.

Well, we agree on everything except turning a double into a single. You say keep it as a double, just don't stretch it, thats fine. Like I said I have seen it done that way for almost 40 years and that is at all levels through high school. I never had to see it done at the college level as I am sure such blowouts rarely happen. Also, as I stated earlier, the real issues I have are stealing, taking extra bases, and the continuing of whooping it up (showing up the other team). In the end all the coach needs to do is show common sense and make sure your team shows great sportsmanship.

Now I agree with that and it falls in the same line if a ball is misplayed in the field. Your synopsis is dead on!
