  1. We all lost a great friend Tuesday night. Bill Due, who worked at Eggleston Maynard Sports, died at a very early age Tuesday. For those of us who worked with Eggleston, we know how much he did for all of us and how much fun it was to work with him. He will greatly missed by all of us in No.Ky. Billy was 42. Please keep his family in your prayers
  2. TOG, We're going to need your aching back at CovCath tomorrow to spread some Turface. We expect you by 7:15. We'll bring the coffee.
  3. Colonels 2-1 over Camels. Take on the Dogs at home whenever it dries out.
  4. While I agree that coaches should do their best to get their kids the recognition they deserve and have earned it's not as easy as it sounds. There is no reason for a school to have no stats in the paper. But is tough to keep the stats up to date. With most baseball coaches teaching all day, playing 5-7 games a week, and having families it's difficult to keep updated. With many teams playing 2-3 games in a weekend those numbers never make it in by the deadline for Monday's paper. Ask most players what their numbers are and they will tell how many W's their team has. You spend most of your life holding a baseball and in the end it was the other way around.
  5. Getting back to the topic. Where are his holes? How do you pitch to him? Just curious as my boys may be facing him later on.
  6. Ray and I went head to head many of times back in the day. I can't think of many coaches who I enjoyed having my teams play against as Ray's Wildcats. First, because you knew it was going to be a battle against a tough, well prepared team. Second, you got the pleasure of spending the day with Ray. Few men truly enjoyed spending the day at a ballpark as Ray. My only hope is that St. Peter got him a fungo and a bucket of balls and put him to work as soon as he got there. My prayers are with his family.
  7. Although I don't think Biegs has a computer and I know he has no idea what this website is, congrats on your first W in Ludlow, as well as the Ludlow squad. Coach em up Biegs and boys listen, he knows his stuff. You are in for a great ride. Can't wait for you guys to learn about the chicken bones.
  8. I don't know about famous but the best assistant coach has to be Dan Tieman from CovCath. Famous, played for the Royals for a short time in the NBA. Also the head coach at CovCath for a number of years. And quite possibly, one of the finest men you will ever meet.
  9. Mind you, I don't have a dog in this fight, er, discussion. A high school kid schould be free to choose which sport or sports he plays. I think we would all agree to that. If a kid who previously played three sports or two decides to give one or two up to concentrate on only one sport it should be his decision. No high school coach should tell a kid he must limit himself to just one, or gently prod him into this decision. If I were a high school coach of any sport I can see where having my kids year round would be what's best for my program. But the question here should be "What's best for the kids?" Isn't that what this is all about. We can let the Rick Pitino's and Urban Meyer's of the world decide what is best for their program. One question. If spring baseball was adpoted or if Coach Johnson wanted some of his pitchers to throw in the fall or have his hitters get some swings in, who were also football players. How would that go over? With that said, wishing the Birds baseball team good luck this spring. Sounds like Coach Johnson has things moving in a good direction. Didn't mean to rustle any feathers.
  10. My favorite phrase in the English language, "Time for Pitchers and Catchers."
  11. It has been my honor to know Biegs for many years. Biegs and I go back a long way. He and I have played many a softball game together and have spent thousands of hours talking ball. You can count on one hand the number of coaches in NoKy who have his passion for the game as well as ability to teach it. Without knowing much about the talent pool at Ludlow, I'd like to add my two cents to anyone from Ludlow. Keep your ears and eyes open, you can learn a lot of baseball from Biegs. Good luck.
  12. Great game, great rivalry. But why bring the state trophy? Didn't anyone think this through?
  13. Focus on the shoulders. The head and front leg are deceptive and what most kids watch. A left hander can't throw to first without taking his back shoulder away from first, loading up to throw. His front shoulder will also tuck to throw over.Back shoulder is the best place to follow.
  14. As a young teacher and coach, was fortunate to start my career at NewCath coaching football for Mr. Schneider. Plus 40 years in age, teaching and coaching for 15+ years and still refer to Mr. Schneider as Mr. Schneider. That should tell you how much respect I have for the man. No coach I know places his players' experiences and growing into quality young men ahead of W's more than Mr. Schneider. And the thing that never gets mentioned about Mr. Schneider is that he is a great classroom teacher. When was the last time any coach on this entire website was recognized as a great classroom teacher? Isn't that why we get into this in the first place? Mr. Schneider has been doing it the right way for the right reasons, for the kids we teach and coach, for a long time. I remember years ago when asked why nobody called him coach his answer was "I'd rather be known as a teacher than a coach." I hope he wins 10 more. He has earned that.
  15. Basketball aside. Any good places to get a good burger and a beverage before the game? After a good hour on the road, good chance I'll be a little hungry when I arrive. Just looking out for The Old Guy as I'm sure he would recommend Herb and Thelma's for the best burgers in town for those traveling up north before stopping in to the Colonel dome.
  16. A curious observation. 6A Semi's this weekend. Two very talented teams from the same city make the semi's. However; they don't play each other. What the KHSAA doesn't have a map. But yes, it is all about the kids. Not the 40,000 who will pay 7 a head next weekend.
  17. I think most people will like the game limit. In the long run, I think it will allow teams to play more games before tournament. It's hard to get 36 games in a normal baseball season.
  18. 80-0. At least that's what I'm hearing the t-shirts are advertising.
  19. A team from Louisville won the series a few years back. If I'm right a few of those kids play for PRP.
