Well, Feb. 15th has FINALLY arrived, and I was wondering how the first day went for everyone. Any big news out there from the first day of tryouts?

They were outside on the parking lots at Ryle and (per my son) "totally freezing." It did get me to thinking what a great oppotunity (advantage?) it is for the schools with turf fields to have someplace nice to hold baseball practice during February and March when everyone else's fields are totally unusable. At least I'm assuming that schools like CC, Highlands, Dixie, and Beechwood make use of their turf fields for this purpose. Anyways, baseball season is finally here!!

It is hard to think of them as "the boys of Summer" when there is snow on the ground!

At last... Baseball... Mason Co. uses a parking lot as well during the cooler months when they can't get on the field. As well as the school purchased the old Jockey warehouse and turned it into a sports complex. They put up two batting cages, two indoor mounds, as well as an indoor track, with a long jump pit. And a few other things.

It was great. It was hard to make it threw the day waiting on pratice at the end. All I know is can't wait for another great day tomorrow. Hopefully the field will dry up that would be awesome!

Our guys have to wait until Monday. With Knott being out of school because of the flu, coach felt that Monday would be better. The boys are getting together at the gym.

Mason Co. is very fortunate to have the sports complex.....wish the folks at Campbell Co. would follow suit. Parking lots are used as well by the Camels....gym does not have a indoor (drop-down) cage area. The school complex has plenty of space for it. To create something could be utilized by multiple sports team would be advantageous. Ryle has a nice gym facility for baseball (cage up on the track area) as do many other NKY schools.

^ Yes, it is very nice and I would recommend that if any team has the oppurtunity to invest in something simular take it. It came in handy when it was pouring rain and we get some swings in, and some arm work for pitchers. Before the sports complex, we used a cage in the middle school gym that was a personal purchase by former Coach Ullery and family.

 

Mason is holding their first offical practice/tryouts today at 330 in the building. Following an indoor track meet that was held this morning.
