Game with the two highest ranked teams in N KY is the Holmes / Dixie game. The game that has the most meaning is the Ryle / Boone game. District seeding game.

Nice generalization. So everyone at HHS loves to rub it in everyone's face. I wonder how many of those supporters that do this are the kids from the basketball program. I wonder how many are the parents of the kids in the basketball program. There are hurt feelings. The kids are disappointed that most likely their season will end a game or two sooner than they hoped. The parents are disappointed that the boys are disappointed. If it makes you feel better, go ahead and rub some salt in the wound. The underclassmen will have their opportunity to do better in the years to come. Hopefully they respond. As for the seniors, the loss hurts really bad right now. I know they will finish the season strong as a group. They may be emotionally down now, but what outstanding high school careers these young men have had. Kenny Ball can look forward to being a big part of the preseason favorite in baseball this year. Kenny will move on to lead within the baseball program as an infielder and pitcher. Justin Weyer can move forward with his 2 state championship football rings and his outstanding academic achievements and scholarship offers. Parker Harris has multiple regional golf championships and a commendation to a service academy. Go ahead and have your fun at the expense of the basketball program - in the long run these kids are still winners.

Beechwood begins a very tough next couple of weeks. Next 7 games are all against teams ranked in the top ten in the 9th. Holmes kicks off the stretch - it will also include games against CovCath, NewCath, and Dixie.

The X factor that is never brought up in these type of discussions is the student part of student-athlete. If 95% of high school athletes will not continue on to play in college, the most important aspect of their high school career is their studies. Playing sports, or being involved in multiple extracurricular activities takes time away from the academic part of high school. Multiple sports or year round specialization takes time away from studies. A lot of students will lighten the load and just get by so as to increase the time devoted to playing ball. I think this is where we miss the boat with our kids. Balance. Not just between multiple sports, but with schoolwork and social time. My son plays multiple sports. He meets the demands of each program which had essentially become year round for his high school. He longed for the dead period each summer. He enjoyed the few weeks each spring after basketball and before spring football. Has competed for his school in varsity action in basketball and football for 3 years. Gets up at 6:30 am, tackles a very rigourous academic schedule, has practice or games 6 days a week in season, and does homework until midnight most evenings during the week. He knows his ticket to college is through his bookwork. He loves playing ball and wouldn't have given it up for the world. I will miss watching him compete when its over in a few short weeks. I'm not going to miss watching him pour over his homework at midnight knowing he has to do it all over again tomorrow. Balance. So hard to achieve and be successful in today's high school environment.

You are really dating yourself with the proud program talk. HHS hasn't competed for a regional championship since the turn of the century. The seniors that are giving their all had not even entered kindergarten the last time the Birds were relevant on a regional level. Based on the talent level, size, and competitive nature of each of these kids - the realistic goals that the team set for themselves are still within reach. A must win game over Bellevue this week and the chance to upset Newport in the district are on the horizon -- those two things happen and the Birds are lacing them up at BOK.

The lack of posts in this thread tells me two things: - the complete apathy surrounding the Bluebird basketball program. It's really a shame. Good kids, trying their best to compete and represent their school. - the gag order surrounding the NCC program. Ever since the infamous "719" post the fan base of the Breds is very quiet. (with the exception of Lawnboy).

I only know Region 9 from top to bottom. I would say these rankings are solid. I even like the differential from top 2 to the next grouping.
