It had nothing to do with the make, I just bought a really cheap Ford Courier many years ago when we had no money but needed a second vehicle. The seats were all torn up, it had a hole in the dashboard, and it was puppy mustard yellow. However it did run, and it was easy to work on which I did often. It had bias ply tires when I first bought it, and I had to drive I 25 from Arvada, CO to Denver for work. I 25 had big lane ruts and the truck was really squirrelly in those ruts until I put radials on it and new shocks.
I did get all my money out of it when I was able to replace it but not my labor.
