First thing would be to quit trying to out jump teams. I didn't see much boxing out, if any at all, last night. Not to take anything away from Staggs because he gets great position and is relentless. I think Mofford could use some help as far as learning to get into position to get a board. He dosen't even need to box out much, height and position are very key in rebounding. But, as far as defending the post, A-Town needs a lot of improvement. I would like to see more zone as long as you can keep Nicholas from getting it into the high post. A-Town has some length with Hardymon, Groves, Mofford, Staggs and Hamilton. I think the frantic pace helped the Bluejackets more than A-Town. The pace lead to foul trouble and poor shooting for Augusta. I didn't see any shooters at all for Nicholas. But, when you're coming from behind you have no choice but to play man-to-man. Bottom line, Nicholas County out-worked Augusta from the tip.

Kelly Wells at Mason County...state championship and a runner-up...three peat regional champ Was sorry to see him go.. NUFF SAID! Hard to argue Robin Kelsch at A-Town...resurrecting a program that was winning just one or two games per year when he got there. But as the old timers say...Joe Mahan was a heckuva coach. You must have missed last season. King shut down Tyler Mains twice with his defense and Browning made huge shots in the state tournament. King's defense is not suspect. It's called help defense and Stahl isn't there to help down low...there is your weak link on defense. He continually has his back to the basketball and he can't score. He isn't a threat on either end and played the entire game. Why? Pawsat, Browning, and King sat, all three are great role players and take pressure off of Miller who had to go one on five on offense. Ray Charles could have seen that. Darius' play has nothing to do with him needing to be more selfish, he's 6'7" and needs some layups and dunks to get going especially when the Royals need a bucket. And he played a team who doesn't have anyone over 6'3". Coach Wells would be blowing teams out with the talent level of this team. They are potentially 30 points better than anyone they played. They could go ten deep and have the best full court press in the state. I can't believe what I have seen from Coach O'Hearn this season. With Miller inside and three players on a full court press, this would have been a blowout...anyone could have seen that.

Royals deserved to lose this game and they would have if it weren't for senior leadership from Tyreese Scott (great game Tyreese!). Story of this game and reason Russell stayed with a much deeper and more talented Royals team is that Dodd flat out out-coached O'Hearn. No enthusiasm from the coaching staff resulted in no enthusiasm on the floor. It was apparent from the tip. And it didn't take head cashier at Wal-Mart to figure out that Mason's length would cause turnovers in a full court press. Mason stayed in a half court man-to-man the whole entire game and allowed Russell to set the pace. I know Miller is going to be a two or three man in college but when you need a basket desperately and your best player is 6'7", any coach in the region knows you should put him in the paint. You can't get in an offensive flow going one on five and shooting mid-range leaners. This team could be a state contender. I've said this before and I'm new to Mason County basketball. But, Browning and King are all-region players and mid-major recruits at any other school. Why they continue to sit on the pine when they could be effective at both ends of the floor is beyond me and I'm not the only person who is often confused by the substitution processes that O'Hearn abides by. Bottom line: Mason is 30 points better than any team they have played and among the most talented and deepest teams in the state. Any other coach would be drooling at the chance to coach this team, full of potential.

That's a bit sarcastic. Why are you on this kid so much? He's just a sophomore and a work in progress. No one said he dominates. Anyone who is 6'6" is a factor when you're playing kids that are dominating ya down low getting easy layups.

Matt Groves coming off a game-high 18 is the best thing that could have happened. He has struggled to make his shots off of kick outs which are desperately needed in big games. I also expect Mofford to play more minutes with Pendleton's size down low, "Hurri-KANE."

Dude, it's Jamie Waltz. And I'd like to pull out some names that lead their teams to multiple Sweet Sixteen appearances. Brian Witajewski from Harrison County, good defender, sweet stroke and a very heady player. Josh Graham from Fleming County, great ballhandler for his size and unstoppable down low with many post moves. And I cannot leave out these players who may have had the best head to head matchup of all time in a regional: Shawn Myrick of Mason County, simply a great scorer. Billy Ray Fawns, some like to call him "Big Shot Billy", if you're a Royal fan he broke your "achy breaky heart."

Lofton will be a senior next year. Miller will be a senior for Mason County next year. Are they planning on redshirting Lofton next season? I doubt it...Do some homework!

Bracken will ride the momentum of a hard fought victory in ATown. Bracken will win, 54-50.

I don't think anyone from Augusta, even White, controlled the game. Looked to me like Hall and Hamilton controlled the game. Bracken pushed it when they wanted and then dumped it down to "Big Country" in the half court. The game was controlled by Bracken, maybe not by design, but each player did what they were expected. When Josh White controls the pace of the game, Hardymon scores 20+. When that happens, Augusta beats these teams everyone knows they should be beating.

Were you at the game because Chris Mofford played only two minutes? When he was in the game, he altered three shots (including Hamilton shooting an air ball over the rim and Jesse Hall having to triple pump a layup which he later had a field day at completing) and blocked one. Were you at the state of the art concession stand? Everyone I was sitting with was wondering where he was.

This is the deciding factor. Chris Mofford will have to play some key minutes for ATown to handle business down low against Tyler Hamilton. If Mofford can come weak side and alter some shots, which he does do, ATown should be able to weaken the inside presence. Bracken needs some jump shots to fall off of kick-outs when Hamilton gets doubled. I'm looking forward to some battles in the paint. Shootey Staggs and Tyler Hamilton will battle Tuesday. So, I think this game will we be won on the defensive side. It will be interesting, the defensive schemes both coaches will have to come up with. ATown-65 Polar Bears-63 2OT

Finally, you make some sense. Robin has taken a program from the biggest cupcake in the state to a topic on Bluegrasspreps.com. Forget George Clooney, as far as every boy age 25 and below that has attended and currently attending A-Town is concerned, Robin is the man. Little ATown Pride will see his playing time. He is tough and will be a very solid player. Instead of begging for PT, you should be greatful that Augusta is deep enough to play as many players as they do Varsity. It used to be that Augusta HAD to play kids that had no business on a basketball court.
