CovCath 7th inning 1) Schneider 4-3 1 out, no men on 2) France BB 1 out, man on 1st, Nowak CR for the pitcher France 3) Coldiron BB 1 out, men on 2nd and 1st 4) Cody doubles off the left field wall, Nowak scores (score tied 2-2) Coldiron gets thrown out at third on a nice play by the Left Fielder to the cut off man to the 3rd baseman, 2 outs man on second. 5) Colvin on a 1-0 count, hits his 1st Varsity Home Run over the left field building just left of the AC vents on the building for a 2 run HR (CovCath 4 Beechwood 2) 6) Thiel goes 1-3 to end the inning.
  2. It was Justin Colvin with the HR over the building just left of the vents but it was a 2 run HR. The other RBI knocked in the 7th was from Thomas Cody on a double off the wall in left.

  4. The 35th District Championship game was suspended after CovCath batted in the top of the 3rd and will continue on Thursday with Beechwood coming up to bat in the bottom of the 3rd inning with Beechwood leading by a score of 2-1.
  5. 35th District Tournament Beechwood 14 Holmes 4 (5 innings) #1 Beechwood vs. #2 Covington Catholic Wednesday, May 24, with the first pitch coming at 5:00 pm Weather permitting, as rain is in the forecast
  6. Just like in Basketball, teams take turns hosting, this season it's CovCath turn! While it would be a HUGE UPSET, and I do mean a HUGE UPSET, Beechwood still has to win this afternoon to get to that Memorial Day game today vs. Holmes.
  7. RUNS BATTED IN 10.04 (a) Credit the batter with a run batted in for every run which reaches home base because of the batter's safe hit, sacrifice bunt, sacrifice fly, infield out or fielder's choice; or which is forced over the plate by reason of the batter becoming a runner with the bases full (on a base on balls, or an award of first base for being touched by a pitched ball, or for interference or obstruction).(1) Credit a run batted in for the run scored by the batter who hits a home run. Credit a run batted in for each runner who is on base when the home run is hit and who scores ahead of the batter who hits the home run.(2) Credit a run batted in for the run scored when, before two are out, an error is made on a play on which a runner from third base ordinarily would score.(b) Do not credit a run batted in when the batter grounds into a force double play or a reverse force double play.© Do not credit a run batted in when a fielder is charged with an error because he muffs a throw at first base which would have completed a force double play.(d) Scorer's judgment must determine whether a run batted in shall be credited for a run which scores when a fielder holds the ball, or throws to a wrong base. Ordinarily, if the runner keeps going, credit a run batted in; if the runner stops and takes off again when he notices the misplay, credit the run as scored on a fielder's choice.
  8. Think about this if you would. Runner on 1st base he attempts to steal, pitcher throws a wild pitch, do you give the runner a SB? Sure you do! Now if he went to 2nd after the Wild Pitch was thrown, there is no SB. Runner had committed to going home prior to the muff, (Coach told me as such) so would the runner been out at the plate? In my honest opinion no, too many things good had to happen to get the runner out at the plate and the runner was already past 3rd on his way home, so I gave the batter an RBI. Of course on the error a play or two later, it was an error and with two outs in the innings there was no rbi's earned by the batter. 3 runs 1 earn run in the inning.
  9. They meaning the Enquirer didn't post that Webster hit an HR. They want you to give them the information but then left out something like an HR this isn't the 1st time, they did the same thing with a game of ours when Dixie (Winkler) hit a HR.
  10. My original post is what I sent to the Cincinnati Enquirer and other news outlets. Holy Cross 2-0-0-0-0-0-0--02 ....CovCath 0-0-0-1-3-0-x--04 Holy Cross Hitting Yancey 1/4 1 run scored Webster 1/2 HR 2 rbi's 1 run scored Haggard 2/3 double Holy Cross LP Finke CovCath Hitting Schaefer 1/4 1 run scored France 1/3 1 rbi Coldiron 1/1 2 runs scored CovCath WP/Sv Casteel (4-4) France (6-1-1) I think it is rather simple to read and understand but the below is what the outstanding sports staff at the Cincinnati Enquirer posted about the CovCath vs. Holy Cross game. 35 District tournament Covington Catholic 4, Holy Cross 2 W-Casteel (4-4); L-Finke. Sv-France (6-1-1). Leaders: CC-France RBI. HC-Webster 2 RBI; Haggard 2-3, 2B. Records: CC 26-7-1 It is me or is this pretty sad?
  11. I gave France a rbi on the run scored by Schaefer, as Coach Krumps was sending in the runner regardless if 7 muffed the ball or not. WP Casteel 5.2 innings 6 hits 1 double 1 HR 2 runs 2 earned runs 7 k's Sv France 1.1 0 hits 0 runs 4K's
  12. (35st District Tournament) Holy Cross 2-0-0-0-0-0-0--02 ....CovCath 0-0-0-1-3-0-x--04 Holy Cross Hitting Yancey 1/4 1 run scored Webster 1/2 HR 2 rbi's 1 run scored Haggard 2/3 double Holy Cross LP Finke CovCath Hitting Schaefer 1/4 1 run scored France 1/3 1 rbi Coldiron 1/1 2 runs scored CovCath WP/Sv Casteel (4-4) France (6-1-1) With the "W" CovCath improves to 26-7-1 and next plays Wednesday in the 35th District Championship Game vs. the Beechwood vs. Holmes winner at CovCath with the 1st pitch coming at 5pm
  13. The question was Who is the better hitter? Use "better hitter" however you define it. I define it as someone who wins and will do anything to make the team better! Someone who keeps the clubhouse in order, a leader on and off the field, a player everybody loves to root for be it players or fans, a player who is in The Hall of Fame and who loves the game of baseball and playing the game. As Tony said, Baseball has been very, very good to me and I say, Tony, you have been very, very good for baseball in general and in Cincinnati in particular. I still stand by my comment that if Voto were on the Big Red Machine instead of Perez, the Big Red Machine would have never done what they did, as without Tony that team wouldn't have had the heart and soul that he brought to it. Never underestimate the attitude of the clubhouse and what a player like Perez brought to it, during the long road trips and even longer seasons.
  14. 1985, 1987, 1992. 1994, 1995, 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2005 Oh and that State Championship in 2002 that hasn't been won by a Ninth Region Team since and the last one prior to Krumps and CovCath was in 1963 by Covington Holmes.
  15. Don Gullett, Jim Maloney, Gary Nolan, Tom Seaver and Mario Soto with a nod to Ross Grimsley, the most superstitious man I have ever known
  16. Remind me again what they called Sparky Anderson the MGR of the Big Red Machine! Wasn't it Captian Hook because he used his bullpen so fast? Darn, I guess in Cooperstown it should be called the Hall of nostalgia or the Hall of solid players, instead of the Hall of Fame. Perez, Tony | Baseball Hall of Fame
  17. Yes and Yes and they won't be able to fall through like the old stands.
  18. Received a tweet telling me the score in the JV Championship Game at CovCath CovCath JV 10 Highlands JV 0 (5 innings) I don't know anything else about the game. CovCath Freshmen and now the CovCath JV win the Region congrats, gentlemen!
  19. The other JV game between Highlands and Campbell Co has been called due to rain. We will have to wait and see about Sunday, as I don't think HHS, Campbell or CovCath have rules about not playing on Sunday, but........ Thank you Punttheball! I don't get to see our JV team play that much.
  20. CovCath visitors seating has been installed and they look great. Looking at the visitors stands while standing on the turf they are 10 rows high and run from the Romes concession stand to around the 35-yard line side (houses side behind the goal post). Pictures I have won't upload to the BGP's site.
