I started attending in 1971 when I was 6 years old. I attended every year up until 1985. I did not attend from 1985 until 1998 ( except in 1991) . I have attended from 1999- present. I enjoyed the early days at Freedom Hall, the chocolate malts, the venders selling junk, eating at King Fish and missing school. (those were the days)

Wasn't it the good old days when non-county or small public schools were in the thick of the chase? I agree that the home town support was a lot better back then. It was a big to-do to go see your local highschool play a basketball game. In those small schools everyone knew everyone, and school spirit and school pride was a lot better than it is today in these larger consolidated county schools. In fact in those days it would standing room only in those small gyms. I went to scout a Henry Clay game one friday night about two years ago, and I bet there wasn't 100 people in the gym. In Lexington on a friday night only 100 people came out to watch the game. In McKinney in 1968 200 people came out to watch them play Nancy. In my opinion those were the golden era days of high school basketball. I know that the men that played for Coach Harper in Monticello are still looked at heros in Monticello even today. The small schools in the small towns are proud of their heritage.

Country Boy: I disagree. I think parents that dont have the forsite to keep their kids from starting school early , should be allowed to correct the mistake in elementary school or middle school by holding them back. I think parents should be able to make decisions that give their children the best chance at succeding. Monte Calloway ( from Southwestern) averaged 24 points as a senior. Monte could have been a sophomore that year. A sophomore averaging 24 points a game would have gotten alot more recognition than a senior. In fact he would have probably been a Mr. Basketball candidate by his senior year, If his parents would have held him back. I cannot think of one single draw back to holding kids back.

That is what the people around me said. And if that is the rule then both the officials and me missed it. I would think that the FT shooter would be classified as an offensive player in possesion of the ball and should be able to call a time out.

Note this did not have any influenece whatsoever on the outcome of the game. In the Southwestern/ Boyle Co. game: Boyle Co. was at the line to shoot two FT. The ref. passed the ball to the Boyle Co. Player. He took two dribbles and Boyle Co. called and was granted time out. Some people around me said this was not legal. Once the player on the line had possesion of the ball no one could call time out. I disagree. I think when the player receives the ball it is like they are on offense. The defensive team cannot time out but the offensive team can call time out. My other rules question is this: After a timeout Team O has the ball underneath the basket. Team D is defending. Team O is running a play and the count is at 2 seconds.Can Team D call a time out before the ball is inbounded. I have never seen this happen, most of the time team O calls time to prevent the 5 second count. But If a defender fell down could they call a TO before the ball is inbounded.

McKinney vs. Nancy was the first high school basketball game I ever attended. McKinney colors were Purple and White. I think their mascot was the Bearcats. Coach Gooch was the head Coach. I was about 3 years old. I remember it was a small gym with a balcony. It was jammed packed with probably 200 in attendance. I think there was a band on the stage and they played the old fight song with Combs as their instruments. Congrats to the Pats.

Why can't kids do both? Boyle Co. had some football players that played basketball, and in the summer those kids were in the gym, and probably on the field also. But they were encouraged to do both by Coach Smith. If Danvilles basketball players are only on the football field in the summer, while the other 12th region teams are in the gym, then they will always be a bottom 5 program.

The only thing I know about Sam Harp is that he is one of the best Football coaches of all time. I heard that the last time Danville won the region everyone in the gym from Danville was happy except for Coach Harp. I heard that is why Roscoe left the first time, because the football program got everything and the basketball program got leftovers.

:mad: That is a pet peeve with me. Do Schools have the right to not accept coaches passes? Schools that do not accept coaches passes should be reported to the KHSAA, who in return should fine the schools and tar and feather the AD and principal.:fight:

There are several coaches that could have won this award. In my opinion what Coach Upchurch did at Monticello was as good a job as anyone else in the region. Even though his win total wasn't as good as some of the other coaches, he did bring respect back to that program. Coach Jones is an outstanding coach, to bad Bartley never made it back to the level he played at last year.

I have the upmost respect for both of these coaches and both of these programs. Both teams played hard and both teams played clean. It was a shame that someone had to lose. It could have gone either way. SW players made some key plays down the stretch to earn the win. #10 Kyle Klingensmith hit a couple huge shots. I wish SW luck with Boyle. Somerset returns most of this years team and is my pick to win it all next year.

There is 0% chance that Frankfort High will beat Scott Co. For the record I am a FHS fan. But also a realist. I think Scott Co. beats Cath. 84-77

This was a reply of the McCreary/ Wayne game, except there was no putback by Wayne at the end to send the game to overtime.

I agree. If Wayne hits their shots they are dangerous and will beat West. They have nothing to lose and should come into the game loose.

OK Shu and Les I will not call Waynes win an upset. Wayne Co. seabiscuited McCreary last night. :jump:

Well if I look at it that way I couldn't call it an upset. Therefore I would have wasted an entire day trying to convince you and Les that it was an upset:D I call it an upset because I am a slow learner. The first game I got to see and it was much closer than the final score indicated. The 2nd I did not see. I heard Wayne shot lights out. But since I didn't see it doesn't count.

Thanks for the information: Obvious looking at their head to head meetings it would not be considered an upset. However if you take away the head to head meetings the records would have looked like this: McCreary Central 20-5 8-3 in the region Wayne County 11-16 6-6 in the region And if you go on fan expectations: McCreary was expected to be a Regional contender and Wayne was never thought of in that capacity.

Lincoln in a close one. Didn't they split in the regular season? I agree this game could be a regional championship preview but so could the Sset/ PC or the East /West game.
