I had the pleasure to watch him play the past few years, and he truly was one of the hardest working young men to ever play the game. He left it on the court every game he played in. He also practiced the way he played. He was a true leader. He led by actions not "words". SW will miss him in a big time way. I wish Casey luck in college. If the NBA drafted solely on attitude, Casey could would be a first round draft pick. He is the kind of person I hope my son grows up to be like.

I got to see Rockcastle play Southwestern a couple of years ago. And I got to see them play once this year. I am impressed with their coach. From what I have seen he does an outstanding job of teaching the players the game. His teams play clean and play hard. They are a class act. I wish them well ( except against SW)

This is probably a stupid question for people who know the game but what does FED only mean and how does that relate to high school baseball?

:confused: I dont know if we are on the same page or not. It is batters interference on some case plays for the batter hitting the ball( not the catcher) on his follow through.

In this case the batters feet did not move so I would say he didn't restablish his position. However the batter is responsible for his backswing either intentionally or unintentionally. So on that part of the rule book, I think the batter is called out for interference.

The Umpire did say that if he knew this was going to happen he would have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express so he would have known the answer. He put the runner back on the third and had the batter continue on with his count.

I think that is the key phrase. In this situation the batter is out for interference because his backswing interfered with the catchers throw. If the ball would have hit his helmet and bounced out of play it would have been dead ball runner scores.

This actually happened in a middle school game A runner is on third base. The pitch to the right handed batter is about eye level but the batter swings and misses. The Catcher catches the pitch and throws toward third in an attempt to pick the runner off. However the catchers throw hits the batters bat and deflects into the stand. What is the call? I ask two experts and got two different answers. One said batter interference. Batter is out. The other said its not batters interference the run should score.

As long as the player is in the area of where the base is supposed to be, he will not be called out.

I think I heard Avery Hatfield tell me about that game. Is that the game the other team kept throwing him the ball on the inbounds pass?

My son took after his mother and was so smart that he skipped 2nd grade. He entered 7th grade this year as an 11 year old. He isn't interested in sports very much so we will send him on. However if he was interested in basketball, he wouldn't be physically mature enough to even make the 7th grade team. He could probably make the 6th grade team and be a below average player. But if you put him on a 5th grade team he could be a pretty darn good player on that level. If he had a desire to play, as a parent I would hold him back twice to give him the best opportunatity I could for him to achieve success.

To my understanding: In years past students could repeat 8th grade with basically no penalty. However the rules have recently changed. Now if a kid wants to hold back, he must do it before he enters the 8th grade. The reasoning behind this is that the KHSAA doesn't have any jurisdiction over middle school. However after a student finishes his last day of 8th grade he is considered a ninth grader and the KHSAA has jurisdiction over them. In fact student athletes only have 4 years of eligibility after completing the 8th grade. So if a student completes 8th grade and then repeats the 8th grade, he would only have 3 more years of eligibility left.(thus being ineligible for their senior year)This is the reason so many middle school students are now holding back in the7th grade. Thir are some loop holes ( students that go on homebound) to get around this though. Aaron Watts from McCreary Central is an "old" freshman, that has already scored over 1000 points. I think he has definately benefited from being an older kid that will graduate at the age of 19. Cole Draughn from Pulaski Co. graduated at the age of 19 and was a force in both football and baseball his senior year. The extra year made a big difference in his career. I could go on and on.
