Film will tell you everything except the new wrinkles every good coach throws at his opponents weekly. The only thing effective scouting does not do is take away the element of surprise. Other than that a coach can draw up tendency sheets and adjust his call sheet accordingly, and essentially play the game on paper...except for the wrinkles I just mentioned. Don't forget to mention the art of execution. It is one thing to scout but it is another thing to execute what you have been taught to do.

I concur with Shooterx3--I think Fairview is much too balanced. But, should be a fantastic game.

As for Russell... To help their outside shooting, they need to establish Gill underneath. He was in a position to post up for some points in the paint, but Russell didn't get the ball into him. This should free up some room outside and allow VanHoose, Blaire, Simpson, et al, to shoot the 3-ball. This, of course, is in addition to the aforementioned rebouding problems. I concur, Gill worked extremely hard to gain position, but for some reason Russell would not pass him the ball. Russell would just simply settle for the long ball and not run true set plays. I also agree that BC were two different teams with and without Owens.

I think OC would have liked to see this a bit more, they mainly saw his back side.

We definitely were more physical than the Aces, which apparently had not happened to them to this degree in the West. I believe several OC fans on this site underestimated our physical play. They also over-estimated the hurry-up no huddle offense causing fatigue. Certainly, OCath had some nice drives but had significant problems in the red zone with a short field. I thought their no huddle took FOREVER on many occasions. This had nothing to do with time-outs. A lack of platooning seemed to help us stay in the flow of the game. I agree. I thought the no huddle might affect us more than it did, but IMO it had no affect. OC seemed stumpped or perpluxed by our defense and our alignmnet. They ran the play clock down quite a bit. The same as being in a huddle.

IMO Russell has defended the pass very well. They have given up some yards, but they didn't give up a lot of scores. They have gone up against some passing teams late in the season, but have faired very well.

Congratulations to both teams. Both teams were very classy on the field. Russell had the momenteum in the first half and couldn't get it back until late in the game. A great game for the fans to watch! :dancingpa

Pal, I agree that this is a new year and 2 different teams that has nothing to do with this year's outcome. Except for a slight revenge factor that the kids from Russell might have. I am looking forward to a hard fought game between two tradition rich schools.

IMO I think you have to consider Kasey Clark from Russell. 38 touchdowns and counting. Like Minnifield he too goes both ways.
