Russell's record in district and the regionals is very impressive and I look for them to continue to dominate when they move to 3A next season, but only 2 championships in 10 semifinal appearances?

 

Maybe someone from Russell can enlighten us on the issues, in the other 8 appearances

I can only help you on 2 more of those. In 02 they lost to Breathitt Co by 1 point in OT. Breathitt went on to dismantle Corbin that year 51-0. In 04 Belfry was just to much. 39-14 loss to the eventual state champ.

Our semi-final losses don't come to teams from the west, I believe 2 of the AAA semi-final losses were to Highlands, I dont consider them a western team. The rest I would say are from SE mountain teams.

They certainly didn't have much of a problem with the one they played last year ...

The semi final losses were: 3 to Highlands, 1 to Connor, 1 to Breathitt, 1 to Belfry and 1 to Danville.

Russell has an all-time playoff record of 37-20. Their first appearance was in 1977 and they have been in the playoffs every year but six since then. The following is who they have lost to in the playoffs:

I wouldn't say Russell has had trouble with the west at all. The most unfortunate thing for the Red Devils had been losing to better teams. Ten times they have lost to a team that went on to win the state championship. Just recently (plus 1978) has it seemed like Russell has been able to get over the hump.

Yes they did.

It was 27-7 and Russell started giving the underneath routes to keep the clock running. Coach McGlone will let the clock run once they have the lead. It is not about margin of victory, it is about victory itself.

What do you mean by "west"? Where is the cutoff. I have the stat book with Russell's record through their history. I'm going to call the "west" west of Lexington. Remember, some of these games are from WAY back. Here are their records against those teams:
