They relished the headhunting bjaynes? Whatever. Game was chippy both ways, Beechwood would pile on and on a few occasions be jawing quite a bit. Happened both ways. The officials allowed too much extracurricular both ways before trying to reign them in. Holmes had a late hit out of bounds and Beechwood had a pretty solid face mask penalty. Very physical game. Holmes's defense had a pretty gallant effort, considering how much they were on the field. Beechwood is a solid solid team. Holmes needs to find some sort of identity on offense. They run out of the shotgun, but have very little motion and have gone away from any optioning. Nice crowd, hot as heck, both teams played hard, one bank of lights went out two times...made for an interesting Friday night.

I just reread all of the comments in this thread and Solomon and Wingman have changed their tune. Some were citing sources from Dixie's side talking about his GPA and so forth saying he was good to go and so on. It looks like the kid participated with the Dixie kids this summer in a 7 on 7 league. Was that a team tourney? If so, it looks like Dixie had no issues with his eligibility. Hopefully, the kid can get things turned around.

Scott's complex should look really nice when they get it all completed. Are they doing anything for the hoops program?

I didn't see a box score in the Enquirer this morning. Who is responsible for calling in the score? Winning team or home team?

The final score was actually 19-12, not 13. The goal line stand was huge for Holmes, but that took place late in the third quarter, if I'm not mistaken. Holmes had started a drive and had some penalties and a bad snap that had them backed against their own goal line. Then it looked like they tried a fake punt on 4th and Forever and got no yardage. This gave Scott the ball down 13-12, at the Holmes one. Scott went backwards and lost about 8 yards on three plays. Their FG attempt never made it to the line of scrimmage. Holmes then went on long drive and punched it in but missed PAT. Pretty much that was the end of the game. Holmes looks different on offense this year. They did have one long TD pass from Knox to #22. I didn't catch the name. Then they had a kickoff return for a TD by Scruggs, I think that was his name. All I can say is that kid can scoot, one of the faster kids I have seen in a while. Sowder for Scott had a decent game. It looks like Scott's numbers are a little higher than in the past. There was a really neat fireworks show afterwards, with accompanying music, that lasted about 15 minutes, that was put on by Vito's Fireworks. The only problem with the post game festivities was that about 10 minutes after the game, if that long, they announced the show would start in 10 seconds and boom, all the lights went out with teams just starting to leave field and many fans leaving. There is a real safety issue that they will need to address if they continue to do this. The entire complex was really dark with exception of street lights and building lights near field. The post game show has a lot of potential but they will definitely need to address the lights/safety issue.

Cov Cath looks like they are making the climb back and Dixie is well...still an underachieving program.

I would imagine he got a scholarship. Amazing how the doors of Holy Cross have opened wide over the last two years once the Diocese started allowing for a certain number of scholarships to be given out in urban areas for a select few parochial schools. They tried to lure a couple of kids who were to be freshman this year to take one of these scholarships and attend Holy Cross. That well had dried up for a few years and now they have been wide open the last two summers. I am not saying this is right or wrong and parents have that right and when the opportunity presents itself it has its advantages for both parties.

I don't see how he can play unless he has had a change of residence. Those diocese scholarships, that were approved within the last year have been coming in handy for Holy Cross the last two years.

This has been in the mix for a while. Coach L was not forced out at CCH teaching wise. I honestly think it was a situation where he just needed to look out for himself. Get back into the retirement system and look ahead long term. I would imagine it was a difficult decision for Coach L to leave but maybe it was just time. He was very successful at CCH and the wild expectations of the CCH faithful was his undoing. He had a great run and maybe they didn't do some things consistently enough, but over the last few years they just were not very talented. One other misconception I have seen in this thread is the talk of Holmes having great talent, in general. Holmes has a few kids that are talented, like the Rice kid but there is a difference in talent and skill. What they do have is some athletes and more than most in NKY which makes them unique. One thing that I have heard is that Coach L is very compassionate and that should be of great benefit to the students in the classroom. Don't forget Ross Hart is one of the Dawgs assistants and has done a really nice job with the JV teams and is a young coach on the rise. Does this mean Holmes will also add Danny Tieman as a superscout?

I doubt Dixie will see Peterson playing next year. Word on the street is that he is not showing up for school and hasn't for a while and he may not even be living out in Lakeside Park area anymore.

Add Willie Schlarman to the list of individuals who have turned down the job. Schumate from Beechwood is supposedly going to interview sometime early this week.

I don't have the names, but an assistant at Moeller and an assistant at LaSalle are in the running.

That is one of the reasons why I don't think they wanted to play. If you go back through the thread I mentioned they were not going to participate and GS said one hadn't made up mind, but they had. I even mentioned that Behanan was not likely to play. Bottom line, they just didn't want to play and that is disappointing.

I like your work Wireman, but I think their coach told the truth. If it were legit reasons he would have said so. All of this other stuff sounds like bunk and they just didn't want to play for whatever reason. I don't think we need to pile on the coach. A lot of other players that are trying out have a whole bunch on their plates as well. With that being Zollo, Stenzel and Behanan had great careers in high school, but their reasons for not playing doesn't fly. Behanan can't play but Taylor who is going to UL can?

How people get on here and try to shelter these kids with the lame excuses you have given for them not trying out is beyond me. Their own head coach said this was disappointing. Sounds to me that the excuses they gave him were lame too. Timmy Knipp is going to the same school as Stenzel, isn't he? I guess he wants to represent the state. Doesn't seem like those early starting classes are going to bother him. I would imagine there are a few other kids trying out that are taking AP English and working jobs who are trying out too. The Hickey kid is in the middle of trying to figure out a school for next year. I guess he could be taking college visits and so forth, but yet he is trying out. The Taylor kid is going to Louisville and probably has to take some early classes, but he is trying out. Look at Corey Rogers. Going to college on a football scholarship. My guess he probably needs to really be hitting the weights and will be reporting to summer school soon, plus he starts football this summer. Got to love this kid's desire to play. Im glad for the kids who now get to try out because these others have too much on their plates right now, as if every senior in high school preparing for college doesn't.

Do all D-1 players who have signed automatically make the team?

Pretty much if you are a D-1 recruit you have pretty much a guaranteed spot on the team. The tryouts are simply a formality and you use time to get into shape. You really have to question the heart of Zollo and Stenzel. I think also maybe they were a little afraid of the competition. If you are Neubauer at EKU or McDonald of WKU, you have to be concerned about the competitive desire of your two recruits, in Stenzel and Zollo. In Behanan's case, the excuse of classes to play with UL this summer is a cop out. He is just angry that he didn't get Mr. Basketball.

Why would you not want to play? I don't quite comprehend how one can turn down an opportunity. Also, whispers that Chane Behanan will not be playing either.

Zollo and Stenzel turned down invites to the KY All Star Teams. Other players were extended invites because of them turning it down. How could you turn down an offer to represent your state? Indiana will be heavy favorites in this one. Teague-UK, Dawson-MichState, Chandler-UCF, Zeller-IU, Davis-Xavier, just to mention a few.
