theguru Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 I am told it was one of the ugliest Beechwood wins of all time.
mexitucky Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Can't overlook anyone. Especially teams w athletes
katbird Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Wow...The Beechies must of been sleep walking..
theguru Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 At least 5 fumbles for BW. It was dark!
NEERFAN Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Looks like we have our work cut out for us next week.
bjaynes Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 The Good the Bad and the Ugly: The Good: Beechwood's defense was stellar again. They did not allow the Holmes offense to cross midfield other than on penalties. Beechwood is 2-0 against a 6A and a 4A. A couple of nice runs by Vocke. That's it. There is no more good. The Bad: 2 Beechwood fumbles returned for TD's. Beechwood's Flannery gets taken to the hospital. The lights go out twice. The Ugly: Beechwood's Brennan is running in for a TD untouched on a long pass play and drops the ball on the 1 yd line and Holmes recovers. 6 or 7 Beechwood turnovers (lost count). The personal fouls by both teams (Holmes had a few more and seemed to relish the headhunting plays). There was no full moon to explain this game. It was just plain weird and ugly at the same time. Let's hope the Tigers have it out of their system prior to HC on Thursday.
Bengal Maniac Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Bjaynes summed it up pretty well. Very physical game. Holmes was more athletic and quicker (besides Volke). Both teams were very aggressive and it was a chippy game. Holmes was kind of sleep walking early on, B'wood made a good play the player got up and got in Holmes players face and the flood gates opened. The Holmes kids then were fired up and it took the Holmes coaches all they had to keep them under control. B'wood clearly had better team, but not better athletes. I was on the sidelines and both teams are very physical. Holmes has no offense, O-line is weak, Knox is not accurate in passing, not effective rushing. The puzzling thing was B'wood passing with rollouts and Holmes chasing the QB, he was under pressure all night. Best Holmes defense in a long while. D-line is excellent for Holmes. This was probably an aberration for B'wood. They won't play anyone this athletic until probably Mayfield.
Toothpick Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Congrats Bw on the W They won't play anyone this athletic until probably Mayfield. Wait a minute......I thought that they were still going to play Cov Cath and NCC. Did those 2 games get cancelled?
Bengal Maniac Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Haven't seen Cov Cath or NCC, no doubt they are more skilled than Holmes, doubt if their as athletic and fast. Congrats Bw on the W Wait a minute......I thought that they were still going to play Cov Cath and NCC. Did those 2 games get cancelled?
letabrotherspeak Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 They relished the headhunting bjaynes? Whatever. Game was chippy both ways, Beechwood would pile on and on a few occasions be jawing quite a bit. Happened both ways. The officials allowed too much extracurricular both ways before trying to reign them in. Holmes had a late hit out of bounds and Beechwood had a pretty solid face mask penalty. Very physical game. Holmes's defense had a pretty gallant effort, considering how much they were on the field. Beechwood is a solid solid team. Holmes needs to find some sort of identity on offense. They run out of the shotgun, but have very little motion and have gone away from any optioning. Nice crowd, hot as heck, both teams played hard, one bank of lights went out two times...made for an interesting Friday night.
bjaynes Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Holmes had a defense that was very athletic and fast but they still gave up a few plays to the outside for big gains and did get burned on a long pass play though it was fumbled at the one. They were tough up the middle. That's what impressed me. The Holmes offense was stifled all night long though by a Beechwood defense that was just as fast and athletic.
bjaynes Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 They got excited over big hits, some legal, some not. Big deal. Nothing wrong with that. I saw what I saw. Some times I wish our guys were more excitable as long as they stay in control. Did I ruffle some feathers Corso? If so, my apologies.
Bengal Maniac Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Just an ugly game, I agree with Corso on the chippiness. Lots of extra stuff, late whistles calling plays dead. Offiicials could have controlled it better, but it wasn't one-sided.
letabrotherspeak Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 No feathers ruffled, but I figured I wouldn't let that comment slide. They had a couple kids lose their cool, but both teams were very cordial post game. Physical game. Many thought this would be a blowout and Holmes hung with them and they longer they stayed in the more confident they became. Holmes kids got excited on some open field blocks. Vocke is fun to watch in the open field. Nussbaum is a solid player as well. Still think Holmes's defense was the most impressive thing tonight. Fought poor field position all game and scored two touchdowns. Beechwood was off their game and for Holmes to have a chance they would need some turnovers. Holmes's offense needs a lot of work. They struggled last week on offense as well.
