Be careful. This isn't totally true. There is absolutely no difference in the leeway allowed by rule. Officials aren't allowed to cop out dealing with the style of punt. They only have to ask "was he a kicker?". If so, then its a foul to hit him.

The coach coming that far out on the field is not a sideline warning, whether it is first, second or third offense. That warning only occurs if they are in the restricted area (first two yards off the field) during the down, or have too many coaches in there during the non-restricted period. If the coach did as you described, it is unsportsmanlike conduct, by rule, and should have resulted in a foul immediately. A wise official would then have given the coach a reasonable time to leave the field and go back to the side. If he didn't, then any other official could throw another flag resulting in ejection. Coaches coming onto the field are prohibited by rule all the time, all the game, no ifs and or buts, if it involves objecting to an official's call.

Just one minor correction. For many years, but emphasized this year more than ever, both teams HAVE to be on the field after the 15 or 20 minutes expires. Otherwise, its 15 yards on the head coach for failure to have them out there for the 3 minute warm up period.

You should know better since you seem to be good at quoting their rules. The way I read their rule, there could definitely be an issue since its in the same school year. Further down in the rule, it talks about same school year transfers.

Traveling football squads sometimes need rooms for as many as 100 to 120 people. It's a little difference in terms of rooms per team. From what I have been told, usually only about half of the teams, sometimes less, use overnight accomodations. It will probably be higher in Bowling Green. It's probably a variable that needs to be nailed down. Biggest question about Richmond is are they going to expand seating on the far side? Football games with all of the fans on one side have seen some issues in the past. I can remember when the 4A games in Cardinal Stadium were held during those last couple of years when the far side stands had been removed, and there was definitely a need for increased security. Plus, does EKU have an area like PJCS or Bowling Green where the high school coaches can buy a "premium" seat and get in out of the weather? This is the one time they get to reward themselves with something nice (sort of like, but not the same as the basketball coaches at Sweet 16) and have a great long weekend. Just curious. Maybe some of the pro-Richmond knowledgeables can share info.

Where do you get that misinformation? From what I can see on NFHS web site, Kentucky has as much or more full contact practice as anyone. What exactly can they do in other states that they can't do in Kentucky? Legally that is. For example, Texas allows some 7 on 7 play in June, but NOT with the school coaches. Do Kentucky coaches really want to turn over control of their players to outside coaches in the summer (ala AAU)??

Yes, they do. In the KHSAA tournament rules, the teams ALWAYS set the dates and times. Some are more restricted due to facility availability, but dates and times are always up to the participating teams in the baseball, softball, basketball and volleyball events.

Incorrect. The dates and times of the tournaments are still up to a majority vote of the 8 teams once the tournament teams are known. They could still play Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday from what we were told, or the schools could vote to spread it out over several days. While there is the "OPTION" to go spread out and use one arm, what it really does is allow schools to avoid proms, graduations, testing, and other conflicts by giving them more days to work in the hardest tournament to schedule all year, a 7-game, weather dependent event.

Disagree Totally. Lowering of the shoulder doesn't do anything if contact isn't made. This was nothing more than A-rods slap of the glove in series a couple of years ago. Leading with the shoulder is not a violation if it doesn't make contact. Period.

Probably should just let this one lie. But from WHAS video on their web site, what happened in Etown game was NOT malicious contact. It should have been interference on the runner who hit the catcher's mitt (and he should have been called out), but it was NOT malicious contact. Interference doesn't result in ejection.

I wish I had. Even stayed up to watch news on Lexington TV and no one showed the play. Oh well. Just put the original note on there because I had heard who the umpires were and didn't want someone talking about region bias. Had nothing to do with the call. Interference/obstruction at the plate is probably the call that involves the most judgement of any call made in HS baseball.

I don't think you are correct. What coaches were told in pre-season (or at least the meeting I attended) is that ADULT violators would get multiple game suspensions, not student violators. The online listing seems to indicate that this penalty (more than one game) was directly at adults.

Not that it matters, but there were no 9th region umps on the game anyway. There were two from 12, one from London who works in the 11th and may be one of the two or three best umpires in the entire state (and he was plate on this game from what I know), and another one from 11 who is working state. It didn't have anything to do with where umpires were from.

As can the small school. The issue is to allow for teams with less pitchers to be able to throw them multiple times. The studs will still be the stud no matter the format. Putting a day of rest in between makes the coach make a choice after 5 innings rather than 2, a much better balance

Couldn't disagree more. This format allows a small school (or even a large one) who only has one or two arms to find a way to win and advance, if the coach just plays it right.

To me, this year's results only validate the current system. If tournaments are always supposed to be as they are on paper (to those that take time to vote), then why play them. It is for who plays well at the right time. Regardless of format, you have to perform. This year's tournaments continue to be very interesting with the results. To me, the weather and inconsistent play patterns of this spring have a lot more to do with unpredictable results that the format of any tournament.

The Iroquois girl dribbles the ball then grabs it as the whistle blows. She clearly had control. Unfortunately, it was a blown call, but either way, would have resulted in an inadvertent whistle. What others are missing is that the girl who threw the first pass for Etown emailed it to press row only to have a teammate make a heck of a play to save it back off her own foot and then Iroquois gets the ball. Let's also don't put 100% stock all in one play. Let's talk about 17 turnovers, missed shots (18 of 42 shooting), etc. While the focus may get to one play if a team is looking for some excuse, its about 32 minutes (in this case more than that) worth of play. And on this one, either way, by rule, once the whistle blew Iroquois was going to get the ball. It shouldn't detract from the tremendous season for both teams and a great finale to girls basketball for this year.

They sell kleenex in large boxes at all stores. Stop and get some. Judgement calls have been involved in games (and missed calls) since the game was started. Did the team shoot 100% before that? Did they make any turnovers? It was a bad way to end, and I am sure the official has spent the rest of his career looking at that picture and feeling bad (even though there were only two then). Get over it. Get some kleenex, and get over it.

You're not all tournament if you don't contribute to wins for your team. Period. Its not about stats, its about contribution to success at the tournament, not all year long. So while it was a good statistical game, it doesn't mean anything if the team doesn't win. It's still a team game, and its about contributing to team success.
