Turf being put down at EKU

With field turf being put down at Hanger Field at EKU, how long until they make a bid for the state finals? Facilities wise, are they ready?

I'd say it'll be hard to match Western's new digs! I'm really excited about the new location

I like everything about WKU except for their antiquated press box. After six games of no elevator and having to walk to the heavens to work, I'm thinking the statewide press will be less than kind about that aspect of the new digs.

That is the only blemish on a nice facility

I don't think it will take very long. I can still remember Highlands playing there in 1977. Man it was a cold day......

Rumor around Richmond is there may be a Roy Kidd Bowl being played there on an annual basis for a couple of high school games in the near future.

I think this is a great idea. Being an Northeastern KY team, I really hope that EKU gets a chance to host the finals. Maybe it ban be alternated or so many years at each and then trade off???????

I agree. WKU is very nice I sure hope that they have a good crowd if they don't I can see it going to EKU. The parking at WKU will be a major problem from what I can see. I know that it will be a good playing atmosphere for all of the teams. I sure hope my Bobcats are playing at WKU this season.

I think a two- or three-game bowl on a Saturday at Eastern would be pretty nice. Have Madison Central, Madison Southern and Berea play three other state teams. Or they could do the Recreation Bowl thing and just bring in four teams from northern, central and eastern Kentucky. Either way would be nice.

Was hosting the state finals a big reason for Eastern making the change, or did they do it for other reasons?

I'm sure it was for maintenance reasons. However, putting the turf down allows the city to bid for events they couldnt in the past because of the natural turf.

I say they will have a bid for 2010.

And, I would say it is a good thing, having competition for the bid. I would say it will rest heavily on how things go this year at WKU, but I expect Louisville, EKU, and WKU have bids in for 2010.

Personally, I would like to see a rotating effort between EKU and WKU.

They are eliminating a few of the practice fields on EKU's campus, therefore, this change will allow the team to have all of their facilities inside the new fieldhouse they built and they can walk right out of it onto the field everday for practice.

Makes sense. Good to hear for the EKU program.

I would say that the biggest reason is they are trying to keep up with everyone else so they don't get to far behind.

It would be nice to have the state championships in all the sports shipped around the state for all residents of the state to enjoy in them.
