I've been told by a very good source that Ashland star running back Rashard Carter is no longer on the team. Don't really want to go into any details at this time.

That's not good for him or the school. Unfortunately though (and I have no idea on the details here) it's what you see every year from atleast one "star" high school player.

What I heard from a VERY reliable source is that he was not kicked off the team, but he is moving to Greenup County with his foster parents. If so, then that is a huge loss for the Tomcats.

I'm not sure about anything the KHSAA does? Is there a precedent of a kid playing for one school in week one, and then playing for another school that same year in the same sport?

Not that I know of, and I don't know of a Bylaw that covers it.

I would imagine rulings on foster children would be complicated. It's not the same as families moving, but of course there are similarities. Hopefully this situation will play out well for all involved.

Well to be perfectly honest, I hope the kid is able to play football again this year. I think Carter really needs the game of football, and I hope he is able to use that to better himself, and his situation.

c) CHANGE OF CUSTODY - The KHSAA shall not recognize

guardianship or similar arrangements made, for purposes

of this bylaw. The period of ineligibility may be waived if it is

shown that custody of the student has been taken from one or

both parents and given to the other parent or a third person

by a court of competent jurisdiction and under circumstances

indicating: (1) the parent(s) are unfi t or (2) the court fi nds that

 

the health and welfare of the student would be better served by
