  1. It is not about what team they played for, but what kind of player they are. I know that Shears from NL was one of the top WRs in 5A (#2 in YPG and averaged 24 yards per reception) on a team that is a 55/45 run/pass team. Wardrup from NL was only the 3rd back in NL history I am aware of that had over 1,000 yards in 2 straight seasons (Durham & Blair were the other 2) and was #6 in 5A in yards per game. Vaughn from SL was #4 in rushing yards per game in 5A. However, the problem with the system is that the AP voters who bother to vote, usually only vote for the kids they have seen. It is a shame that so many worthy kids are left off the list, but it is what it is.
  2. There will NEVER be an All State team that makes everyone happy. Some have more valid arguments than others, but no list will not have quality kids left off. I hate it, but as long as there are All State teams, this will happen. With that being said, congrats to all those kids that were named to this team. What an honor!!
  3. I was told yesterday that Raymond Shears, WR/S from North Laurel was selected so I was hoping that the full list was out.
  4. Does anyone have a list of players who have been selected for this game?
  5. North is going to be getting chairbacks, but don't think they will have them this year (as I understand it). My contention is that the spirit of the regional tournaments took a hit with some of the 'line items' in this proposal. Fact is that this was NEVER about the kids. Your post points that out very vividly. It was ALWAYS about the money. I guess that I am one of the few that thinks that taking some of the spirit out of school spirit is wrong. I blame the schools who voted for this proposal. Had they taken those out, I probably wouldn't have had that much of a problem with it. I never had a problem with it being in Corbin. I was torn when this debate came up before. But the kids were NEVER part of the equation on this issue.
  6. I don't care who came up with those rules, I disagree with them. IMHO, they should have asked to have them taken out. I realize that they saw it in the proposal, and that's what really disappoints me from the schools. I don't blame the Arena, they did what they had to do to get the tourney. I am disappointed with the schools that voted for this particular proposal. I have a feeling that whomever cast the vote in favor from North will not be the favorite at the central office right now. Come on Les, just because I wasn't at the meeting doesn't mean I can't have an opinion, and I don't like it. If they were to take out the other things I mentioned I would feel MUCH better about it.
  7. I understand, I understand about noisemakers and confetti, that makes perfect sense to me. But the others are going to far IMHO. They aren't thinking about who these tournaments are for, ... the kids. I also understand wanting the chance to host the region.
  8. I agree. He is the engine that makes the Redhounds go. I love to watch this kid play. Hardnosed and smart on the floor. Plays with passion.
  9. :thumb: I thought we were debating the tourney moving to there. I didn't know it was now off limits!
  10. The entire school board, including the superintendent were against this. That is why South Laurel voted that way. It wasn't just one person's wishes. Hey, I was actually for the arena UNTIL I learned about the restrictions on the kids. That is a joke IMHO. And I have no hatred for the Corbin School System. I have helped football and basketball players from Corbin High School get their information out to college coaches. I want ALL kids to succeed, especially those in SEKY. But disallowing painting, banners, signs, dance teams, etc is totally against a big part of what makes HS sports fun. I also know that several folks on the North side did not want the tourney to be at the Arena. They wanted a shot to host it. As far as how Corbin would have voted if the Arena were in London, ... since it isn't we will never know. Denis is wrong to assume that they would vote against it and it is also wrong to assume that Corbin would have voted for it. We can say anything, but since it isn't in London, we will never know.
  11. I don't like this proposal AT ALL. I usually agree with Les, but not on this one. I think Denis got this one right IMHO. This was NEVER about the kids, ... and that is why I hate that this particular proposal passed. http://www.sentinel-echo.com/opinion/local_story_345093923.html?keyword=topstory
  12. I would love to know the reason. Just my curious side I guess! The reason I have heard is that with the construction going on in the lobby area, they were nervous that it wouldnt' be ready for the region. However, I have a hard time believing that it won't be ready by that time.
  13. Corbin is better right now. A lot of new faces contributing for the Cards. Later in the season, the Cards will compete for the region, .. Wright always has his team's ready come postseason. But right now, I would have to pick the Hounds. Corbin 65 South 59
  14. I hope that is right. This kid showed a great deal of versatility in HS, playing whatever position his team needed and being a standout every time. LOVE to see him in Blue in the fall!!! :thumb:
  15. Many schools would love to have 3+ seniors move on to play at the collegiate level every year. You nailed it on the 'real' goals for a high school coach. They are impacting young lives, hopefully in a positive manner for the rest of their lives. The lessons they learn being part of a team will pay dividends as they grow and mature.
  16. I am starting to be of the mindset that this is not a good idea. I am hearing no bands, no dance teams, no noisemakers, no confetti after the championship game, etc. Sounds like they are taking the fun out of these regional tournaments. I am starting to rethink my stance and don't like what I am hearing. I am surprised that North Laurel voted for it since the entire Board of Education in Laurel County was deadset against it. This was North's year to host it, and since they missed their last opportunity when they moved from the 12th to the 13th, I am shocked they gave it up this year. I am really surprised.
  17. They will be showing some previously played HS and college games as well as some live games. I saw part of a UK vs South Carolina game from several years ago.
  18. Congrats!!! What a great honor! On a side note, it is a shame that this kid didn't even make the final cut for Mr Football. That is shameful IMHO. But, just my opinion. This kid has been all state, ... at more than one position. He is a player!
  19. He has done an EXCELLENT job in rebuilding BS. Hate to see this for them, but he won't be looking for a job for long.
  20. Then the officials made a mistake if he was indeed in the end zone. I have seen a few right at the goal line and the official gave the returner the benefit of the doubt.
  21. He won a state title over an undefeated Lone Oak team. Apparently their schedule was challenging enough to have them ready to win another state title.
  22. But I thought French wasn't doing any coaching? Or maybe he is?!? :sssh:
  23. He does that a lot. I know several officials that cannot stand him. However, they all agree that the man wins where ever he goes and his players respect him. That is what really matters.
