  1. From where I was sitting, I saw great sportsmanship on the field and in the stands after this game. Pikeville is a hard-nosed football team, and a good offseason will indeed prepare them to make some noise this year. You can't ever count out the Panthers.
  2. I agree. Too much experience on the field, and on the sideline. LCA has had a great year, but their win streak comes to an end Friday night. NCC 35 LCA 28
  3. Yep, great season Southwestern! We were pulling for you over here at Somerset, and you all had a great, great season. Best of luck to you all in the offseason, and hopefully best of luck to us next week when Paintsville comes to town.
  4. Four very different teams left between these two regions. One of them will be going to the state championship. Who will it be, and why?
  5. What does Paintsville like to do on offense and defense? I know the QB obviously is important in the offense (Pugh only scored 10 TDs 8 days ago). Do they run a similar offense to Pikeville, spreading the field and running the ball, or do they throw more? Just asking, because I haven't seen Paintsville this year at all. I just know they have playmakers.
  6. Did anyone notice all of the wrong scores on WLEX, WKYT, and the ABC station? I thought "Manuel" had won 33-18. I was truly stunned, only to get on here and find out different. At 11:23, Somerset and Pikeville were still tied 7-7...
  7. Mayo started at QB. Had a nice 84 yd TD run up the gut. Pikeville's lone score. He was injured about 1/3 of the way through the game, and Huffman took the rest of the snaps. Pikeville had a great season this year, congrats to them, Weston Robinson, and all the Pikeville seniors on great careers. Good luck through your offseason.
  8. Both of these teams have looked good as of late, and both beat very good teams to get to the region championship game. Paintsville is a little banged up, but they have refused to back down. Daniel Pugh has really put this team on his shoulders of late with his leadership and effort. Somerset has a playmaker of it's own in Ray Norman, who has really become a force of late for the Jumpers. Any person can step up though for this team from week to week. Should be a good one at the Patch.
  9. Somerset's defense was soft all night. Get out the knives and forks, time to eat crow.
  10. Congrats to Paintsville on a great win and Lynn Camp on a great season.
  11. Good luck to the Somerset Briar Jumpers and to Lynn Camp. :ylsuper:
  12. This is true, but I just prefer to back up my statements with evidence. Why would you do that legaer?
  13. I think they were referring to an old forum being brought up after months of silence.
  14. On another note, Pikeville's three losses have all been to teams that I think Danville would beat. Ironically enough, the average points scored by those teams that Pikeville lost to is 42. Somerset gave up 42 to Danville. Somerset is giving up 260 ypg, while Pikeville gives up 208. Somerset has also faced three backs in the top 15 in state rushing ypg, and 3 passers in the state top 15. Let's talk about Pikeville's suspect offense that only scored 15 points per game in those losses, or that they average 32 ppg. Somerset, in its lone loss vs. the Class A runner-up, scored 26 points, and is averaging 42 ppg. Somerset is averaging 382 ypg, while Pikeville averages 280. Somerset and Pikeville's defenses are arguably equal, and Somerset's offense against a common opponent would easily out-score and out-gain Pikeville's.
  15. Considering the Points Against for both teams is 185-146, a difference of 39 with Pikeville being the lesser, and the fact that Somerset's opponent's records are 56-56 and Pikeville's are 59-48, although both in favor of Pikeville's defense vs. Somerset's, the records are very comparable. Warren East is a 3A Bowling Green team that Somerset annialated, and finished 7-4. We held them to 7 points. Pikeville held Paintsville to 14. Pikeville got lit up by NCC, Belfry, and Hazard, just like Somerset gave up points to LC and Danville. The teams aren't that different statistically, and the same could be said about Pikeville.
  16. I agree with all of this and on the other hand, I believe the Somerset defense will be a factor, if not a bigger factor than the Pikeville defense. A lot of schemes don't account for the quarterback, and Pikeville uses their quarterbacks to make a lot of big plays. Also, Pikeville likes to run at opponents at every hole, from every formation, and will try to do it against anyone, on any given night. This Somerset defense is much improved and has gotten better as the year has gone on, with the exception of Lynn Camp, and they will have to continue that trend. They should be well tested against backs of this caliber, but their mental focus will be huge. If Somerset can limit Pikeville's big plays, and close the ratio of offense to defensive plays for Pikeville, then they will win. If Pikeville keeps the ball and time plays a factor, the Jumpers will be in trouble.
  17. Amen to that. What do you foresee each team trying to do in this game? What are the keys and deciding factors?
  18. Do you really think Lynn Camp has been the underdog all year long? And I mean that in a serious tone. We (Somerset) approached Lynn Camp as the underdog this year, I don't know how Lynn Camp approached hat particular game though. I know LC was favored over everyone else in this district. LC's defense can be a little suspect, but they rose to the challenge against Hazard and did what they needed to do when they needed to do it. Paintsville will keep it close at home, but with Doderer out I don't think Pugh can do it alone. LC will line up and run at Paintsville and pound them into submission. LC 43 PHS 27
  19. I was making one comment, that was a point I have made and will not discuss anymore, unlike the continuing discussions of Pikeville's 6pt win in 2003 and beating a young football team with 4 seniors on it last year. I just made a point about Somerset knocking off a very good Pikeville team that finished 12-2 and Region 4 Champs. That is what I have been saying the whole time. Everyone wants to discuss years past. I'm excited about this football game, and I will see you all back here after the game because this thread is going nowhere.
  20. 1A Somerset over Danville 2A Fort Campbell over Belfry 3A Bowling Green over Lexington Catholic 4A St Xavier over Trinity :dancingpa
  21. Oh yeah, you mean the 2000 season, Pikeville was 9-1 in regular season, and the Region 4 Champions. Who was that one loss to? Somerset 34 Pikeville 28 Even though it's the cool thing to do, I'm not going to talk about the past. I just know the post-2000 Pikeville/Somerset series will be evened up on Friday night.
  22. I really want to see a Lynn Camp v. Somerset rematch for the region. We have a very big game with a great Pikeville football team first though, and Lynn Camp must slow down Daniel Pugh and a very good Paintsville team. Good luck to Lynn Camp, and I hope we both make it.
