  1. Whether it be to Somerset or Bardstown/Mayfield, the North's arrogance will be it's downfall.
  2. From my standpoint, I don't think the public/private debate matters. Just less than 2/3 of the teams in the semi-finals are public teams. Public or private, both of these teams are very good. Wilson Sears doesn't represent the views of everyone in Somerset. Maybe the majority, maybe not...but definitely not everyone. Private schools get talented through recruiting, but it takes heart, soul, and will to win championships, and I'm a firm believer that those things sometimes can out-do talent.
  3. It's been a while since that field has been played on or taken in a substantial amt. of water. Surely it's not in that bad of shape now? Does anyone have a picture of the field in it's present condition, or a picture of the field at all?
  4. So the Covington Holmes field will not be used?
  5. Key words: just, for, and fun But you make a good point that varsity players came out early in some games, which makes things even more equal. This will be a good one.
  6. Somerset will be ready to play next week. They come into this game with nothing to lose. They've already done more than they were expected to (expected to by some, but not me) and they will come in to NKY as underdogs. The pressure is all on NCC. I think this game will be much closer than everyone is saying, and hopefully the Jumpers can get back to Louisville. Let's start talking about the actual aspects of the game, and not who is going to smack who. This thread has already been issued a warning, and another Somerset thread was closed two weeks ago. I want to hear some good football discussion, good or bad about Somerset, in the NCC/SHS forum, and about the game!!
  7. I agree. There are a million and one emotions going through a players head in football games, and sometimes when mixed with adrenaline you get these little scuffles. I think the flag was the correct call, but the ejection was not. Teams from this area typically don't see referees from NKY until the playoffs, and up there, they call a whole different ballgame. Somerset should definitely be able to attest to that after the Paintsville football game. These guys will call anything and everything, and won't hesitate to throw players out of games. Personally, I'm a "let the players play the game" kind of guy. I hope Cantrell wasn't a senior. That would be a terrible way, and a terrible call to end your career on.
  8. Just for fun...these teams are pretty even on paper. .......................................NCC................SHS W-L.................................11-2...............12-1 Opp. W-L .........................80-62..............75-70 PPG..................................38.2...............40.5 Points Agst.APG.................12.5................15.7 RushYPG............................166...............193.8 PassYPG...........................161.7..............179.6 PassYdAgstPG...................113.1..............107.6 RushYdAgstPG...................93.8................150.5
  9. #25 isn't on the PAT team, if you are referring to him causing problems in the altercation. It was between #9 of Somerset, and Cantrell of Paintsville... Cantrell threw more than one punch, and after 9 made the block, Cantrell kept hitting him. The scuffle went to the ground and the Somerset player put his hands over his head showing that he wasn't initiating the problem. I don't remember Cantrell getting a first personal foul, and if he didn't, I agree that he shouldn't have been ejected from the game, but the scuffle was clearly his fault. I was in the Somerset endzone.
  10. So, the game will most likely be back at Newport?
  11. Why has Newport Central been playing it's games at Holmes? Is it because Newport has been playing at home, or are the two even affiliated? I know they lost, so will the game now be at Newport's field, or Holmes'? I've even heard rumors of the game being at Highlands. Can anyone shed some light?
  12. I hope the Jumpers win big. It's been 6 years since our last regional championship. If the Jumper defense comes to play: Somerset 42 Paintsville 13
  13. They're going to have to play near flawless the next two weeks before we can even think about playing in Louisville. But I sure hope you're right! They could and should be there, and will be if they keep getting better on defense. Paintsville and NCC/LCA will definitely have something to say about it though.
  14. This year, Somerset is much better than last year and could compete with the disappointing 2003 and 2002 teams. They play smarter on defense and if the continue to put emphasis on that side of the ball, they will be a solid Class A contender this year. They are always solid on offense and special teams, but like I said in the Paintsville post "Defense wins championships".
  15. I think this region will be a little bit better tested for the winner of Region 3. They are typically big teams and run the ball. With Evarts and Cumberland coming a long way from recent years, plus Harlan, Lynn Camp, Pikeville, and Paintsville everyone runs the ball well in this Region, with the exception of Somerset, Hazard, and Williamsburg who are "pass first".
  16. IMO, defense is the "X" factor. Both defenses are good, especially of late, while neither of them are great, and both offenses are superb. Whoever elevates their play on "D", wins the championship.
  17. You make a good point, but I also think this is the most wide open Class A has ever been. I think this is the year. :fight:
  18. I'm not contesting that statement one bit. I've seen him play. I know his attributes and skills. I'm just saying he won't have field days like he did in the first two rounds.
  19. Pugh is quick, agile, and intelligent, but he's not exactly a "Train" at 6'1' 180-185 lbs. He is a gifted athlete, but if he is accounted for by defenses that play disciplined football, he can be contained. Pikeville did an excellent job of this. I don't see Pugh having a game like he did against Evarts and Lynn Camp vs. Somerset. This defense is disciplined and they get a lot of hats to the ball. Those two things alone destroy the option.
  20. Yes, he has. Where did he play before Doderer went down? Somerset will make Paintsville throw, and that will be a very good situation. Paintsville has the most skill in the backfield. Getting Paintsville to throw the ball would make for a quicker paced game, allowing Somerset to score often, and force Paintsville to do something that isn't exactly their forte. It's just a question of how well they can stick to stopping the run with or without Doderer playing.
  21. Again this week, Somerset will have to be good with their keys and prepared mentally, especially if Doderer is back. If he comes back, that makes the option even more deadly with Pugh as a keep threat, and him a dangerous pitch man. Paintsville is a very good team, and Somerset will have to be very disciplined on defense. If they are, I look for them to win a region title.
  22. What % will Doderer be, or will he be effective at all? Did he not break his collarbone just 2 or 3 weeks ago?
  23. Why don't you think Somerset or Paintsville has what it takes?
