South Laurel 5 Barbourville 4
Who pitched for the Cardinals?? I hope the Clay-South game is a dandy tomorrow. Hopefully South had to waste Smith like we had to waste White.

13th Region Tournament Pairings
The only thing about the second theory is that South won't pitch Smith first game. So if you use White against Cumberland your going to have to hope that a freshman gets the big win for you. I don't know if Gray is ready for that or not. All I know is that Burchell has got a lot to think about. He also has the option were he could go with Mobley. Mobley hasn't been that good this year, but in years past he has been pretty good.

13th Region Tournament Pairings
I get what your saying. I'm just saying that OBI is not as bad as you guys think they are. I'm curious to see what Coach Burchell does with his pitching. Could the same pitcher pitch 2 games in the tournament?? Freshman Nick Gray is going to have to pitch like he has been, and Brandon Mobley is going to have to step up if the Tigers have a chance to win.

13th Region Tournament Pairings
I think your under-estamating OBI. During the All A regional Middlesboro beat them 8-6 in 8 innings. I think it was on a walk off home-run. Oneida is not bad when Kendricks is on the mound, and he has his stuff. Give these guys respect. They have been very competive this year. They might have been lucky in the draw, but they deserve to be here. One more thing that probably hurt OBI this week was that there normal starting CF and lead off man didn't return from the small break the coach gave them. Good luck Mountaineers!!!

13th Region Tournament Pairings
Tough draw for Clay County. There going to have to beat South sometime, might as well do it in the semi's. They can't overlook Cumberland either because they are a really good team.

Clay County 17 OBI 0
I just heard Howell and Lakes. I'd say from Jackson County it would have been Troy Truitt, I don't know about North though.

Clay County 17 OBI 0
C.R. Berry-Red Bird Justin Lakes-Jackson County Ryan Howard-North Laurel Millard Frost-OBI Nick Kendricks-OBI Jesse Godbold-OBI Justin Collopy-Clay County Nathan White-Clay County Eric Harris-Clay County Richard Jones-Clay County My hat goes off to the Tiger seniors and Coach Burchell, nobody dreamed of you guys knocking off North, but you guys did it. Nick Gray was stellar tonight on the hill. The only runner that got on was the lead off hitter on a walk. Keith Brown opened the flood gates with a 1st inning 2 out 3 run double. The Tigers played extremely well in their 2 games this week. Stay hot going in to region.

Upsets in the District Tournaments
I was going to mention that one. I knew the Tigers would have a chance with White taking the hill. I didn't think they would win that easy. I guess Coach Burchell was just holding back. HaHa. Another loss that suprised me was Whitley over Corbin. Didn't suprise me that Whitley won, just that they beat Corbin that easy.

Clay Co. 11 North Laurel 2
Great game Tigers. You spelled Justin's name right. Nathan pitched an awesome game. They got in the Jaguar's heads early and never looked back. This is the Clay County team i expected to see the whole season. They played to their potential. Good Luck Thursday night on whoever you guys play Thursday. If the Tigers win it will be the first time they won the district title in awhile. Does anyone know the last time they won it??

South Laurel 3 LexCath 2
South Laurel has some great young talent in Rakestraw, Martin, and Woody. All 3 of these guys can flat out play. Martin and Woody are 2 great pitchers. When I watched them play last year Rakestraw didn't impress me much on the mound, but at the plate and in the field, he was on of the best I saw.

Clay's Glen Gray steps down
Rumors are getting crazy. I've heard so many things I don't know what to believe and what not to believe. Superentendent Adams said they would name a coach in the next couple of weeks so I guess we'll have to wait until then before we know what is going on.

Clay's Glen Gray steps down
It is also said that the job would probably be filled in the next couple of weeks. Who do you guys think will be the possible replacement. Jerry Combs name keeps coming up, but I don't know if he can coach at the high school level. Keith is another name. I just think his time is passed. Who do you guys think will get the job?? Do you guys think Glenn will get back into coaching??

Clay's Glen Gray steps down
That's one I've not thought about. Shannon Hoskins could be a good replacement. I feel bad about Coach Gray giving it up. This was the most f un basketball season in the last 10 years. They were over-achievers. One thing I read in the newspaper article that I liked was that he said he didn't shut the door on his coaching career. I think we'll see Glenn Gray roming the sidelines for some other team in the next 2 to 3 years. I don't see anyone else taking this team over and being successful next year. I wish Glenn the best because he is truly a great person and great basketball coach. I hope whoever takes the job over is serious about keeping the program at the level it was at last year.

Clay County 3 Corbin 1
He transfered when he was a sophomore. Got hurt his sophomore season, and started last year. He had a huge play. He hit a single between the first and second baseman scoring two to put the Tigers up 3-1.

13th Region Top 10
Beat Corbin tonight 3-1. I saw a look in those seniors eye's I have never saw before. Those guys wanted it tonight. If they can come with this attitude night in night out they can be a good team, but if not they will not compete whatsoever.

Knox Central 9 Clay County 3
I guess he deciced to give it up when his son (Zach Lewis) decided to give baseball up. I hope things will change around her quick.
-
Knox Central 9 Clay County 3
The way I am looking at it is that in years past they have beat most of the teams in the region early in the season, but by the end of the year they blow up. Hopefully it will be the opposite this year. I don't even want to get into the coaching problems. All I'm going to say is things have to change or one of the best groups of ball players to ever come through Clay County will amount to nothing. I'm not talking about this years team, I'm talking about the team over the next 5 years. The future is bright, all we need to do in Manchester is to get someone that is going to put all his time into the program.

Joe Lichaa signs with Union College
I don't know much about soccer, but I was looking and I saw where Union signed OBI's Chris Cahill. Is Cahill pretty good at soccer?? Iv'e watched him play basketball and baseball for awhile, and he is a great athelete. I think it's great that this kid is gettin a chance to get a college education while he gets to do something he loves.

Knox Central 9 Clay County 3
Clay just didn't come to play. Weren't that many errors, they just weren't there. This one was tough to take because I think the Tigers are a 5 run better team than Knox. They just couldn't hit the ball off of Scalf. It seems that Brandon Mobley doesn't have his stuff yet. I'm kind of glad they are having their losing skid right now. I'd rather it be now, than when it matters. I think Clay is one of the top 5 in the region, but they defenately aren't playing like it. Scalf is going to be a dandy for Central. He doesn't throw that hard, but he has good stuff and a deceptive realease. Good win Central, and for the Tigers, get it together, and show people the kind of team you guys really are.

South Laurel 3, North Laurel 2
Don't forget Williamsburg in that district. They aren't a pushover. Is that district drawn or seeded?

How fast is fast in High School baseball?
I know he doesn't hit 90 consistently. I just heard when they were at Clay County last year that he hit 95 when they were in Florida. I don't know if it's true or not, just going by what I hear. I agree with everything you just stated. The fastball isn't everything.
-
How fast is fast in High School baseball?
Here is another question I thought of just then. Would you rather have a pitcher that can throw 88 with a decent off speed pitch, or a kid with 3 or 4 really good off speed pitches, but can throw his fastball in the mid to upper 70's?
-
How fast is fast in High School baseball?
I think Colby Brown from Rockcastle has hit somewhere in the mid 90's at times. If a High School kid can hit 85 he will win a lot of games for you. If he gets any higher than that, your looking at one heckuva pitcher.
-
Whitley 14 Middlesboro 9
He will be one of the best players aroun by his Junior year. So he has gained about 7 or 8 mph on his fastball? I hope I can watch him pitch a game this season.
-
Whitley 14 Middlesboro 9
Pittman is a heck of a pitcher. He can flat out throw a baseball. I remember those freshman and Clay County had a classic last year at Middlesboro. I think it went to 8 innings. Those kids were good. I was really impressed with how they played.
