I just heard that Sarah Mitchell had 2 big hits for Mason County and drove in 4 runs. I'm not sure if this is true, just what I heard. And that an error really hurt Mason County at the end. Good pitching by Greenhill.

In what way? Buser had the 2 top scorers in Mason County girls history, the leading scorer in Mason County history (boys or girls), and another top 5 scorer in Mason County history and still could not get it done. AND, anyone who thinks that she didn't try to run up the score on teams, then they are the ones who are indeed crazy.

Very good post. Agree with everything you stated above! And in the bold, because of this, since Mason County will be somewhat down next year, I wouldn't be surprised if teams did the same to them next year to let them see how it feels.

My prayers are with him, his family, and the baseball team. This has to be an extremely hard thing for all of them to deal with. Prayers to a speedy recovery.

I agree that state had something to do with it, even if every one says that it doesn't. No one really mentioned her, people said it was a two-horse race between Reid and Novosel, and then Gibbs wins it. Just shows you no matter what they say, state does affect voting.

Karissa Greenhill has some great numbers for an 8th grader...17 strike-outs in 2 games! She has a lot of good years ahead of her. In a few years, this team could be dangerous!

I was thinking about this the other day. I think both teams are great teams. I would take the '03 team more times than not.

They play Mason County pretty soon I think. I'm interested to see that match-up.

Me either. The girls should want a new field, but I can kinda see why they don't want one. The people at the Rec Park do an excellent job preparing the fields for games, and all the girls have to do is show up and play...now that's service! haha. But I don't see why that would keep the guys from getting a tarp, when the girls techincally don't even have a field.

I was surprised that Mason County just hit, I think, one 3-pointer this game, and didn't attempt many. Mason usually lives and dies by the 3-pointer, which is why they struggled this morning, because they weren't hitting from downtown. Tonight I believe they only made one, and that was by Russ Middleton in the first quarter. Not that they needed 3's, when they have Darius Miller...but I was still surprised. Mason tends to struggle when they're not hitting from deep.

I don't see why Setty wouldn't be able to play. Yes, he got a technical, but you can still have a technical foul and play in another game. Isn't it 2 techincal fouls that a player will get ejected and not be able to play. Was Setty ejected from the ball game? If so, then maybe he's not allowed, but I didn't hear them say he was ejected.

Why are we still talking about Elliott County? It's done, they got beat, it's over...let it go! Mason County did not show up that night, and if you believe they did, then that must have been the only time that you have seen them play.

He may have gotten those calls, maybe, but he sure didn't get any fouls called on Elliot County against him, and he was being hounded all night. I'd say that made him a little ticked. And as for someone saying they thought the "real" Mason County showed up last night....wrong. They didn't. I'm not gonna say that Elliott doesn't deserve credit, because they do. I'm just saying the Mason County is capable of playing SO much better than they did last night. And 5-16 from the free throw line doesn't really help either. Hopefully Mason County shows up tonight, or they could very easily be done.

I know you're not talking about the refs making bad calls against Elliott? They had the refs wrapped around their finger all night. Everytime Miller touched the ball, he was fouled, but never got the call. The fouls were very lopsided to start the second half. They might have evened out at the end, but the refs weren't a factor against Elliott County.

I would give it another 2 years. I wouldn't say 2010, but maybe the year after, or the year after that. They do have some good young players coming up that are in the middle school right now, and it won't be too long before Mason County is the powerhouse they used to be. They will, though, have a huge drop off, because no matter how talented these kids are, you are losing 3 players that scored, in most games, all but about 10-15 points. That is huge for these players, two who really have varsity experience, to try to make up for, so they will have a hard task ahead of them. I'd say they will take another 2 years to get used to this load, and getting used to playing without the leadership of Cline, Chambers, and Litzinger. Montgomery will be pretty well loaded for the next two years....so once they graduated Jehlik and all them, I say Mason County makes some appearances at Diddle. Oh, and is the 7th grader you're talking about McKenzie Butler? I think that they will start Taylor Allen, or she'll get good playing time. She's a good player, and it will give her chance to develop into a great one.

These young players will be talented and good in the future, but not really next year, IMO. These girls, with the exception of Menke, didn't receive enough playing time. I'll predict that they will win the district title again, because there is not much in their district, but it could be a close one because St. Pat returns pretty much everyone, and Bracken County will return some nice players too. Mason County won't be the powerhouse they have been in years past. Like mcpapa said in another thread....they graduated around 7,000 points. I'd say every bit of 75% is what the three seniors scored of Mason County's points. More than one player is going to have to step up out of this young bunch, and I just don't see that happening next year. Montgomery is still the team to beat in the 10th. They lost Prewitt out of the starting 5, but return Mckenzie Lee and Jelik, and some other very nice players.
