Congrats to the Dawgs on a good win over JC!! I am not surprised about this game in light of the way that JC has played this week. This game is just a reminder that anyone can lose on a given night! So teams need to take each game serious, especially come tourney time. LC is still not at the top of the 57th, but they can't be overlooked either. Most of their wins occur when teams don't keep Thompson in check. Without a good night by Thompson, they can't beat the other 57th teams! Paintsville was in a slump and now they are playing fairly good again. SC seems to be struggling right now! You just never know. Come March, the team playing the best will win. I'm sure that most would agree that the favorites are still Paintsville and Johnson Central.

If true? Then it would serve Owens right! Basketball is a team sport and the team comes first. One player can't act in his own best interest and expect the team to do well. This same thing happened at Morgan early in the game! Except that Owens settled down and the team started playing better later in the game. If Boyd can solve their internal issues with the players' attitudes and as a team, then they have the potential to win the region. Otherwise, they won't last long in Morehead, if they even get there.

That is what makes it so fun! You never know from night to night! And our predictions make us look stupid!

Congrats to Elliott Co. On a given night they can beat anyone in the 16th! But if they arent' hitting, they lose like to Fairview! No doubt that Elliott is a team you can't overlook though. This loss is especially bad for Morgan, because it will be even more difficult to beat them in Sandy Hook!

Home court does matter with every team. However, it can vary from very minor to substantial depending on the team. In some instances, teams play better on the road and in other instances teams cannot win unless they are playing at home. So I guess it just depends on the school!

Believe me, the last thing Boyd County has to worry about this year is Ashland!! The Tomcats are going to be lucky to get out of their district this year. No offense intended but this is reality! Fairview and Boyd have both proven that they can be Ashland. And it isn't beyond possible that Rose Hill could knock them off too!

Oh, I am not selling the Lions short at all! But there is room for improvement and that is the only point that I was trying to make! The Lions have I think 7 losses and they could have limited that to maybe 3 at most with a few adjustments. But who is complaining, the Lions are doing better than they have in years. It is fine to rely on Owens, but what happens if he is cold, gets injured or in foul trouble? It may not matter when you're playing a bad team, but it sure will matter when you are in the tournments. Boyd's players need to suck it up and not complain so much and they need to play more as a team. This will get them further come tourney time. But whether they change or not, they are still a top 2 or 3 team in the 16th.

Although he is not OJ Mayo nor the best player to come out of the 16th, Owens is definately the best player in the 16th this year!

Just sit back and wait on the district tourney because it will be great! The way I rate the 57th as of 1/24/06 is as follows: (1) Paintsville and Johnson Central (tie) (2) Sheldon Clark (3) Magoffin County (4) Lawrence County With that being said, note that there is very little difference between (1) and (4). On any given night any of these teams can win against the other. The district tourney should be great with no clear favorite at all the way these teams are playing right now!

At Paintsville and other small schools, they co-exist well, because each team depends mostly on the same talent pool! And for a school their size, Paintsville has had remarkable success in football, basketball and baseball. The Tigers have state championships in both basketball and baseball and have a final showing as runner-up in football.

I disagree with that statement. I'm sure that Morgan Co., as well as Fairview, Russell, Ashland and the rest of the 16th, KNOW that on a given night that Boyd Co. can beat them! I don't think that anyone in the 16th will ever be overconfident when facing Boyd Co. this season! In fact, by having Boyd come back and almost win, I think that Morgan will know that they will have to play harder next time. Had they blown out Boyd by 12 as at the end of the 3rd, they might have had a tendency to be a little more overconfident next time.

I have supported Boyd this year, and yes they have been successful, BUT they could have been more successful. There was a lot of whining on the bench by a few players during the Morgan Co. game and this was not productive for the team. Also, Owens is very good, but they Lions rely way too much on him. Boyd played a very good second half against Morgan and a lot of this was because of focus and teamwork! That is what they need to keep doing. If they do that they should be just fine in March.

Oh yes, I complain about refs if they do a terrible job! But what I was saying is that after every loss you will hear BC players and fans complaining about the calls. Go back and check the posts of the Boyd losses this year and you will see what I mean. Then according to a Boyd Co. poster, Coach Pratt was supposed to have cast some blame on the refs in the Morgan Co. loss in the Daily Independent. Not to mention that I personally watched Boyd's players during the Morgan Co. game and was not impressed with the "innocent victim" attitude that they showed throughout the game. I will say that I only observed this out of about 3 players though. Owens never seemed to complain much during the Morgan Co. game, but apparently he has at other games from what I have heard. The Boyd and Morgan game was the first time that I have seen Boyd play this year. I was impressed with Owens even though he didn't shoot very well. But the players need to quit whining over the refs during the game and focus on playing as a team. If they do that they will be much better. In fact, if they had been doing that the whole season, they may have a few more wins!

Good win for the Eagles! Of course when Elliott misses their 3's they don't usually end up doing well! The 64th may see one of its best district tourneys this year than it has in a long time!

Boyd Co. will win this game without much trouble, although it may or may not be closer than the first game! The Lions don't usually play well as a team and they complain about the refs continually! This attitude has got to change if they want to be successful. But it won't take a total team effort to beat the Tomcats this season!

Watch some officiating in the other regions!! But basically officiating is fairly much the same everywhere. You get good and bad calls and even missed calls. The main question is does the refs call it consistent and fair? The Morgan and Boyd game was okay, but Morgan did have a lot more fouls called on them than Boyd. This has nothing to do with the closeness of the game though. The Cougars just didn't play well in the 4th and Boyd played better.

The words "BLOW OUT" come to mind! More pain for the Tomcats! We can only hope that it translates into gain at somepoint later in the season!

Every team has good nights and off nights! Also, factors such as illness, injuries and foul trouble factor in as well. BUT, while taking nothing away from SL which is a very good team, they would be luck if they could beat NCH 1 out of 10 in a 10 game series. I'm sure to many that NCH didn't live up to expectations, the hype has people expecting an NBA team. This is only high school you have to remember!
