  1. 2018...Grant Goodman started for much of the season as a WR.
  2. Sad news for many of us in Western Ky that recognized David as a leader among coaches and players. He had great success on the field but his true impact is reflected by the quality of his family and the relationships he has fostered during his career. I know it is a tough time for Will and the rest of David's family. Our hearts are with you!
  3. At the time that FS discontinued the series, it was the longest yearly contest for BGHS as the teams had played each other for decades. If memory serves me correct, they have not played since 2010. I can promise you that BGHS had no intention to dropping a huge revenue game from their schedule. In the decade since FS dropped the game, they also discontinued playing BG in JV, FR, and JR High Football. At the time that the game was discontinued, FS had not won in the series since 1999 and a few of the games had not been competitive. I know that both teams were looking for scrimmages a couple of years ago, BG reached out, and FS declined to play a scrimmage as well.....Been around HS football a long time, when FS and BG were good, no HS environment was better than when those two played.
  4. You've got to know the answer. Practices have been fine.
  5. You can only schedule the teams that will schedule you. The list of teams to choose from is far more limited at BG than it is at most places. Just think, very few players on BG's roster can even remember a time when the Purples and F-S played. If you made A's in Math, it should become much more understandable.
  6. Nice list but I'm just going to assume that you did not see Damon Hood play in high school. I realize he played east of Hoptown but he belongs, and not at #8.
  7. Key additions: Bowling Green: Stuart Hines, OL, Leman Boyd, DB, Derrick Kennedy, DE; F-S Joker Phillips, ATH, Donnie Evans, DL; Glasgow- Chuck Jones, DL; Tompkinsville- Elois Grooms, DL, John Bushong, DL; South Warren- "Iggy" LB, Logan County- Joe Jefferson, DB;
  8. I'm pretty sure you would have to go back to 2000 to find the last time OHS won a playoff game at Rash against the Purples. This is not the 2000 Red Devil teams. Great OHS teams in '99 & '00 but my most vivid memories include the sabotage of the BGHS locker room by some OHS faithful prior to the Purples arrival. Some things are never forgotten. OHS has won very few times since that time. Maybe the football gods have a long memory. BGHS wins again.
  9. The last 6 times BGHS has played Christian County, the Purples have averaged 44.5 points per game. I'd say the CCHS defense will need to be much improved to have a chance to win.
  10. I was there. Like Forest Gump, an elementary kid in love with Jenny. Followed her around all night so I only remembered the score. I had to tell my parents something about the game when I went home.
  11. There is a reason for some level of hope. Trinity scored 41 vs. Warren Central without the type of skill people that are on offense at BG. Much like week 10 in KY HS Football, this is a week that means very little to Warren Central. Indiana ends the regular season earlier than Ky. Playoff seeding is set, playoffs impending, no real need for risking injuries to stars. BGHS may be taking a butter knife to a sword fight but I'll bet they carve out everything possible to compete.
  12. This will be the last game of what was once the best of rivalries in the BG area. The distance between the two programs has grown to a point that the game is no longer needed by either side. There are some great memories for fans of both sides from the 1970's thru 2012. Sadly, the players on the field tonight will never experience the excitement that this game has provided for so many.
  13. Total: 88 States: Kentucky, Tennessee, Texas Most Unique Venue: Hobson Grove Park (Warren East) Almost no schools on the list East of 1-75 or north of Louisville. Mostly WKY and Louisville area...Should be able to add five venues to the list in 2018. I enjoyed the thought I had to give to answering this question. It provoked a good trip down memory lane.
  14. 247 Sports announced an "All-Combine" Team, selected from over 800 participants. Scott Co's Bryan Hudson was on the 1st Team, Bowling Green's Vito Tisdale was on the Honorable Mention list. http://https://247sports.com/Article/College-football-recruiting-Best-underclassmen-from-the-US-Army-national-combine-113279943
  15. A HEALTHY 2018 filled with energy and passion for the Purples.
  16. You can find many different "answers" in every state. Indiana uses success as a measuring stick, Tennessee separates public and private divisions, Alabama uses a 1.5 multiplier for private school enrollment....In each of these states, it has not created a balance of power. There are tough questions to deal with in our state. If the goal is to save football at traditionally struggling programs, perhaps you use a CalPreps rating to create a formula that would move schools DOWN if they are historically weak. I'm not sold that a separate playoff for the 3's & 4's will be a big hit with the schools. The gap between the top programs and the middle of the pack has been widening. In my mind, it would be better to help those that are struggling rather than move up those that have been successful. If your goal is to make classes more competitive, cut the number schools in A & 6A and make the numbers in the other four classes much larger (Alabama). The private school dominance is real. How we deal with it in KY is almost impossible because you have too few schools to separate. Privates make up about 4% of football schools and since 2007 have accounted for 26% of all championships. They have dominated 6A (9 of 11 titles) and 2A (6 of 11 titles). There have been very few private schools in the other divisions, but in those divisions you have the following private school titles since we went to 6 classes: A- 1, 3A- 0, 4A- 1, 5A- 1. I am certain when the new alignment is announced, it will create opposition, no matter where we are headed. It is easy to identify that we have issues, much more difficult to find a solution.
  17. Bowling Green Ziyon Kenner (18)- committed to Austin Peay with offers from Eastern Michigan and UT-Martin Vito Tisdale (20)- UK, UL, Purdue, Tennessee, Austin Peay
  18. Bowling Green additions: Dane Drobocky 2016 Michigan Jamale Carothers 2017 Navy
  19. You are correct, sir....the KHSAA wins again!
  20. Lex Cath is 3A....I stated 3 above 3A
  21. BGHS is 103-8(.928) since 2010....lost 3 in '10 (T, WC, Christian Co), 1 in '14 (Graves Co), 1 in '15 (X), 3 in '17 (PRP, X, So. Warren).
  22. The only three private schools above Class 3A in KY & certainly the best 3 teams in the state this season. In a league of their own.
  23. Many coaches / administrators have a hard time thinking outside of the box, thinking that if another school suggests a change of plans, they must be trying to do it for a competitive advantage. Region final Friday night in the BG area has MTSU at WKU at 7, So Warren at BG at 7, Hopkinsville at Franklin-Simpson at 7, Monroe County at Glasgow at 7. Clearly, any suggestion to move a date could have resulted in a bigger gate for any of the HS's involved on Friday. The idea was floated by at least one of the schools and was quickly rejected.
  24. If you had seen the field last Friday, you would understand. When the BG-BC game ended, there was no way that field would be playable with more rain in the coming week. Solid decision by game management.
