2027-2028 Football Realignment
Based on these teams, I put it on ChatGPT to see what it said. Initially created a 7 team NKY district, which it didn’t like as there is only a small chance the KHSAA would have that. So if showed two scenarios. One with it having two NKY districts including Bracken County, and one where Bracken County got moved East and left one 6 team NKY district. The Two NKY District: District 1 Mayfield Caldwell County Trigg County Todd County Central Fort Campbell District 2 Owensboro Catholic Hancock County McLean County Edmonson County Western District 3 Somerset Monroe County Green County Metcalfe County Clinton County District 4 Danville Campbellsville Sayre Kentucky Country Day District 5 – NKY North Beechwood Bishop Brossart Holy Cross (Covington) Bracken County District 6 – NKY South Walton-Verona Gallatin County Owen County Bethlehem District 7 Lewis County West Carter Morgan County Jackson County Breathitt County Prestonsburg District 8 Belfry Pike County Central Shelby Valley Knott County Central Martin County Leslie County Class 2A – Projected District Alignment (Bracken Moved East) District 1 Mayfield Caldwell County Trigg County Todd County Central Fort Campbell District 2 Owensboro Catholic Hancock County McLean County Edmonson County Western District 3 Somerset Monroe County Green County Metcalfe County Clinton County District 4 Danville Campbellsville Sayre Kentucky Country Day Bethlehem District 5 Beechwood Walton-Verona Gallatin County Owen County Bishop Brossart Holy Cross (Covington) District 6 Lewis County Bracken County West Carter Morgan County Jackson County Breathitt County District 7 Prestonsburg Magoffin County Knott County Central Martin County District 8 Belfry Pike County Central Shelby Valley Leslie County

If counting the Covid year where fans weren’t in the stands and players on the bench were spaced out, then yes that is correct. I don’t like ever counting that year as nothing about that year was normal. However, ever since things got back to normal it still hasn’t been great. Calipari had a couple of really good teams after that, but then went and got upset in the first round twice. Not including the Covid year here is the records the last 5 years including this year. Calipari 26-8 third in the SEC (lost in 1st round) 22-12 third in the SEC (lost in 2nd round) 23-10 second in the SEC (lost in 1st round) Pope 24-12 seventh in the SEC (lost in sweet 16) 17-10 ninth in the SEC currently We are looking at finishing 7th or lower in the SEC again. Which for reference Calipari only finished worse than 3rd in the SEC two times, once was a 4th place finish and the other the 8th place finish Covid year. Mark Pope did get us out of the first weekend last year, but overall it hasn’t really been good under him.

They better make sure they beat South Carolina on the road. Or else there is a good chance we have a 7 game losing streak heading into the SEC tournament, and being very much on the bubble for the big dance.

Ugh, that is all I really have to say about this game.

KHSAA to consider multipliers and success factors for football realignment - What might it look like?
A player does not have to be living in the district to be eligible, as public schools can have transfers. Especially those who transfers in from out of district heading into their freshman year. Now if a player played a varsity sport, and then transferred without a change in residency then they would be ineligible. However, even then that ruling has been inconsistent by the KHSAA.

If they are going to follow through with this multiplier for private schools, then I honestly believe they should do this scenario for public schools too. If you are going to do the multiplier to private schools, because of possible "competitive" advantages in regards to who you can pull. Then the scenario you mentioned should be used for public schools too, who pull kids from outside their attendance zones. As a lot of the top public school football programs, do also typically get more out of attendance zones kids to come in, which gives them similar "competitive" advantage that is being used against private schools with this new plan. As you see some of the top public school teams like Boyle, Beechwood get guys from outside their district. Which even just 5 good players from out of district, can make a big difference. So in Beechwood's case 5 players from outside of district, if you times that by 3 that makes their enrollment go up 15. Which does make a difference and could possibly put them in 3A then.

2027-2028 Football Realignment
While the KHSAA may like having 4 teams per district. They have also shown, they will do the scenario I mentioned, as currently in 1A in District 7 they have 5 teams, and District 8 they have 3 teams. The fifth place team in District 7, becomes the 4 seed for District 8 for playoff purposes. So they have shown that they will do that scenario, that is why I don't believe they will ship Ludlow out and make them travel south for district games, when they have a district they can just make 5 teams and all schools within basically 15 minutes of each other. With that said, I completely agree on being excited to see what the actual realignment will be.

I didn’t say anything about which one would be easier to win, because you are correct the other one would be. Just that the state would most likely have Ludlow in their normal old district that they were in for decades with Bellevue, Dayton, NCC, etc. The only reason they weren’t this current realignment was because of their being 7 NKY 1A teams, so they had to split the NKY district in two. That wouldn’t be the case with this new one, and would most likely be just one NKY district. Which they would probably make that a 5 team district and have their sister district in this scenario be a 3 team district. As the state has never randomly put a NKY team in a district down south like you did with this, when there is another NKY district they can be in.

I doubt they would put Ludlow in that third district and make them travel, when all the fourth district schools are within 15 minutes them, and use to always be in a district together. If I had to guess they probably would make D3 a three team district and D4 a five team district, with the 5th place team in D4 being the 4th seed in D3 for the playoffs.

I like your thinking! I’m in for that!

I completely get what you are saying, as yes it wasn’t his guys he brought in. However, for me Tubby completely gets the credit for it still. As it is not easy coming in and taking over guys who aren’t yours. Also up until the elite 8, that UK team was destroying teams in the first three rounds of the tournament, before becoming the comeback Cats starting in the elite 8. The biggest thing for me, and what many people seem to forget. That 98 team wasn’t like the 96 and 97 teams who were the most talented teams in the country. The 98 team wasn’t the most talented team in the country that year, as Duke and North Carolina were loaded, and basically the same Arizona team that beat UK for the title the year before was back. So many people automatically assume UK wins it all in 98 with Pitino, but I honestly don’t think they win it all in 98 with Pitino. That 98 team and the players that were still there, was a great fit for the system Tubby ran. I know I am in the minority, but I always hate when people minimize Tubby’s title by saying it was Pitino’s team.

Right lol. It’s just amazing how bad they been both years in getting down double digits. To his credit he does a good job I believe with in game adjustments to help in their comebacks. But man what are they doing leading up to games? Something clearly isn’t working in that regard.

Georgia 86 Kentucky 78
It’s honestly been that way a long time. The Kentucky name will always get recruits to listen, but the Kentucky name alone isn’t going to get players to come. We saw that will Tubby and Billy G too. that's why Calipari was so needed, when you have a coach who can recruit to go along with the Kentucky name, you get the great teams we had with Cal for the majority of his time. The saddest part about this is, UK has shown it has top money to get players and yet Pope hasn’t been able to close on many of them. The one good thing good for Pope is history seems to repeat itself. Pope is that nice good guy coach, who is following a legend much like Coach Hall and Coach Smith. They both found ways to win a title, so hopefully Pope does the same at some point.

The sad part is this was also a problem last year too, in regards to getting down double digits in games. I am not sure if Popes game plan going into games stink, does a bad job getting guys ready to play or what. However, it has been a trend now both years for him. Not being good defensively either year, also doesn’t help.

Georgia 86 Kentucky 78
Even with the team playing better over the last month or so. This team simply isn’t that fun of a team to watch. Also two years in a row watching for the most part bad defense. It’s just frustrating. It’s also the first time we lost at home to Georgia, since Billy G was the coach.

Florida 92 Kentucky 83
Agreed with this, and honestly I don’t expect them to shoot like they did against us. As a big reason why they shot so well against us, was because many of those threes were wide open uncontested threes. Which has been a problem for most of this season for the Cats. They have spurts where they play really good defense and contest a lot of shots. However, it just is never consistent for a whole game, where they make a team earn it all game long.

Florida 92 Kentucky 83
Yep the consistent double digit deficits all the time is to hard to always overcome. As so much energy has to be used to come back, and when you play a team that is as good and plays as hard as Florida. It is just hard to get all the way back, and could tell our guys started getting tired in that second half. Plus as usual just not consistent enough on defense. As teams get way to many open looks against them. Things have definitely gotten better and I love how they are battling. We just aren’t at the level of teams that could potentially compete for a title. I do think this team could potentially make a sweet 16 again this year though.
-
Florida 92 Kentucky 83
Not a bad showing. Florida is a really good team, and a team that can compete for a title. We simply aren’t at the same level as those type of teams. It sucks, but it is what it is. I thought the team played hard, and got down its normal double digits, but a lot of that today was because Florida is really good. So I am happy with how we at least competed and made it a more competitive game that I expected. Todd Golden is one of the best coaches in basketball now and has his team play a fun style to watch on both sides of the ball. It’s definitely what we want UK to be, hopefully Pope in year 3 can get it going like Golden did in year 3 last year for Florida, as he has it rolling at Florida now. I was looking back at the UK coach search thread. I mentioned Golden name as a guy that could potentially be a very good hire. I just figured UK would get one of the top established coaches, as so I didn’t think Golden at that time would be worth the risk, but then they made a risky hire in Pope anyways. So hopefully Pope gets it going in year three like Golden did.

Broyles Awards - Cooper assistant coach Bob Burnett wins one
Congrats Coach Burnett!!! One of the best coaches and people I have ever been around! Well deserved!

KHSAA to consider multipliers and success factors for football realignment - What might it look like?
That is what caught my eye too. I didn't realize how close Beechwood is getting to potentially being a 3A team. Which also in turn would give them some better competition in possible district play, and some fun possible matchups in the playoffs.

St. Henry 46 Cooper 43
What a great game as players for both teams played their hearts out for their coaches. Congrats to coach Sully on the win! Both programs are in great hands with the coaches leading them, and I see these two eventually one day battling each other in the regional tournament in a few years.

Simon Kenton 53 Walton-Verona 51 (OT)
To hit back on this topic. Lloyd did the exact same thing tonight in overtime against Dixie, and ended up winning the game using that strategy. While the strategy may be boring for us fans, it is not a bad strategy at all since there is no shot clock. It was a smart strategy by Walton last night, and it was a smart strategy by Lloyd tonight. That strategy is now 1 and 1 over the last two nights. Which for the record, while I may think it is a good strategy. I am glad they will have a shot clock in a couple of years.

St. Henry 46 Cooper 43
Spot on! Completely agree with all of this!
-
What is the 9th Region record for scoring differential?
I would agree to disagree with you on that. As all the teams you just mentioned are not as good as the Lloyd team last year, Newport, Cooper. As even the talent on those teams you mentioned don't really compare to what those teams had the last few years. As the teams I just mentioned in Newport, Cooper, and possibly Lloyd would have been able to at least compete with this years CovCath team. This year we have CovCath, and then a big drop off. Then a lot of teams that are solid, and all compared to each other are very similar and make for good games though. However, it is not the same as some of the top talent with multiple teams the last few years.
