Broyles Awards - Cooper assistant coach Bob Burnett wins one

Featured Replies

Cooper assistant coach Bob Burnett was one of 42 coaches from around the country to be awarded the Broyles Award. Everyone that has been around HS football for a long time remembers Bob as HC at Dixie, long time assistant and AD(?) at Beechwood, and I believe now in his second stint at Cooper. The DC at Indiana was the college winner and the nominees were quite impressive. The show was on ESPN hosted by Holly Rowe and Mark May. You can check it out on the Facebook Broyles Award page. Congratulations Coach, and thank you for your long time commitment to NKY HS football!!

Congrats Coach Burnett!!! One of the best coaches and people I have ever been around! Well deserved!

Fantastic human being and excellent coach. My son and I both loved being around Coach Bob.

That is AWESOME!! Bob Burnett is as good as it gets as a coach and as a person.

When Mike Yeagle became head coach at Beechwood in 1991, he named Bob Burnett his offensive line coach. What a great decision! Bob coached offensive line at Beechwood with Yeagle until Mike left coaching in 2006. Bob retired from teaching that year and also left Beechwood. He rejoined Beechwood for another 8 year stint as offensive line coach under Coach Rash. I believe that is 14 state championship titles at Beechwood that he was offensive line coach. WOW!

Congratulations to Coach Bob Burnett!!

Excellent football coach. Congratulations Coach Burnett!

Incredible football coach!  Congratulations to Coach Burnett!

Incredible coach & even a better person! What a great role model!! Congratulations.

Launched in 2019, the High School Broyles Award is an extension of the Broyles Award, given to the nation's top assistant coach in college football since 1996. It is named for Frank Broyles - the longtime former University of Arkansas head coach and athletic director who mentored several assistants who became legendary coaches in their own right - and his wife Barbara.

The award is results-based, honoring the top-performing assistant coach based on the 2024 season. To be eligible, a coach must serve as a position coach or coordinator.

While character and integrity remain important components of the selection process, the primary focus is excellence in coaching results, aligned with the values and competitive spirit that defined Coach Frank Broyles' legacy.

I hadn't heard of this award until this year when William Harris was named head coach at Taylor County. The press release for his hire mentioned that Harris was a 2023 recipient of the award.

With 42 coaches receiving the award this year, I guess that means there isn't necessarily someone from each state receive a Broyles Award each year. From googling, it looks like Coach Burnett's win is as a member of the 2025 class. If their award program on the high school level was launched in 2019 then that means there have been 7 years of high school Broyles Awards. Anyone know of any other assistant coaches from Kentucky who have earned the honor?
