Jones will be THE principal. He was an assistant last year. There may be some shake ups in the next couple of weeks at Cawood high school. I have heard that they are letting a coach go, but not on the boys side of things and they will be replaced by someone close to Jones, just rumors that I am hearing from around the county. HDE have you heard anything?

I think Thomas played in 1 or 2 games at EKU. Sat out a year trying to recover from the back injury and then could not play.

I could have been an all american playing on that team. :sssh: I am just kidding. That was a great team back then though.

I agree I am not saying he was not the most celebrated player or even the best player, I am saying Charles belongs there with him. I may be mistaken, but isn't Wah Wah the only player to have his basketball number in the rafters and the football field, or I may be thinking of someone else.

In the 40's. Would he have recieved this award if he played with the talent level in the 90's? I am not saying he was not a great player in his time. I know of all the awards, but it was a different time and Thomas has to be considered with him. He was Mr. Basketball and played at a D1 school also.

No way Boo is a first team player. You have two people on HDE's list on the second team that was 1st team all state players in Jones and Lester.

Agreed HDE from what I have been told Jones was able to shoot it anytime he wanted. Thomas was able to shoot a lot also, but he did have other great players around him that took shots. I agree that they should be put in the same league. I am not saying Thomas was better I just think he deserves to be mentioned as one of the top 2 players in Harlan High history.

Sometimes I guess I look at prospect info, some of the sophs in there could be really good. I am not saying Wilson will not be in there because by end or even midway through the year things could change. If he would have played last year I am sure that would have made a difference. If he is as good as you say he is then he will probably be in the top ten. I caught his name in the paper a couple of times this summer leading the Skins in scoring so he must be pretty good, and he gives them that added big man they needed this past year to go along with Johnson.

Dang it I knew I was forgetting someone. I am not sure where I would put him right now. I would put Caldwell below Rhymer or right ahead of him. I don't think he can take over a game like Rhymer can yet. I am not saying he will not just not yet. He needs a good mid range jumper. Has he developed that yet HDE? I did not get a chance to see Cawood play this summer.

I remember Sanford and Farmer going at it in the regional tournament at Middlesboro and former Tennesse coach Don Devoe(sp) set right below me. He was there to see Sanford play. Boy could that kid jump and play some ball.

I would throw Charles Thomas in the Harlan category if you are going on High School only.

You said LMB was biased in his ratings and I would say you are a little biased with Cumberland. Cumberland will be great this year and will be one of the teams to beat. But no way do they have 3 of the top 6 players. Johnson is the only player in the top 6. Johnson-Cumberland Crawford-Corbin Miller-KC Day-Pinville Brumback-Jackson Co Siedel-NL Leisge-Cumberland Strange-Pineville Greene-Mboro Hobbs-Clay Johnson-Corbin Whitaker-KC Rhymer-Cawood Smith-Mboro Zachary-Bell My top 15. Just my opinion though.

I would also move Madison Johnson up on the list. Also I think Whitaker is a little better than a couple you have in front of him. No way is miller the 11th best player in this region. Top 5 easy.

Frow what I hear Miller has a couple of D1 schools looking at him right now.

Watch out for Cumberland. They may be a sleeper. They have one of the best players in the state in my opinion. Desmond Johnson 6'6" can do everything. They may get beat, but they will not get outhustled.

I don't know if any Harlan team has won 20 games or not, but I do know in 96 they won the region. The only team from Harlan to do that. Went to the finals in 94 and semis in 95. I remember the 96 team started out really bad and won a bunch of games toward the end of the season. Of course they played many Lexington schools year in and year out while Howard was the coach. Congrats to this years team for probably having the most wins in a season and winning the district tournament.

I think they have to notify the coaches if they are being let go by April 30th. Something may happen the following year though. It is according who Harlan hires as their principal.

I think he is to sign next week.

John Smith(Harlan)-LMU

I seen him play around christmas at South Laurel and he has great hops. Very strong rebounder, not sure about the outside shot, really did not take anything outside 15 feet. He just caught the ball on the block and jumped up and shot over most of the kids that were guarding him. Very athletic though. In my opionion more athletic than Moss was just maybe not as good shooter.

P Matt Clark(from Harlan Co./Cumberland High School) had an excellent outing against Kentucky. I think he got the win.

After Morris was able to rejoin the Cats he said he was going to be there for four years. That worked out didn't it. I agree when the money starts flashing they start thinking in different ways.

Look at all the guards on the first team. You can only have five players on a real team, like the one that is in the Harlan Daily. Two to three guards on each team.

He makes your first team over who? Henson had Ty Proffit, Ryan Whitaker, and John Smith. He makes it over one of them?

Who would you put him in front of on those regional teams?
