1 didn't come for 30+ years with multiple commissioner's. What makes you think it was coming with just anyone? Heck, past commissioners couldn't get it past the State BOE.

Let's see. 1 - Coaches requirements trumps any of the things above. High school's couldn't staff enough people due to this requirement and he got it lifted, upon approval. There aren't a ton of people that want to coach small sports at a lot of schools, which caused some student-athletes the chance to participate. 2 - 6 classes of football is 100% on the coaches. However, some would argue that 6 classes has positively impacted participation, which is what it's about. 3 - Shouldn't HS sports be more about allowing kids to play instead of figuring out ways from keeping them playing? 4 - Allowing HS coaches access to players in the off-season to work on skills instead of limiting the HS coaches so kids spend more time with club sports. This negatively impacted sports like soccer and volleyball throughout the state. Those are just a few off the top of my head. All good changes and all spearheaded by Mr Tackett.

They don't want to stop governing after games. They want to allow officials, sometimes only 2-3 per game, from being involved with 5+ coaches, 50+ parents and 25+ players after a contest. Heck, we all saw the video of the HS football game where the coaches threw down after. Should it really be on the 5 game officials to try to break that up? Absolutely not.

If you read the current link where the initial post was made and can't figure out that they are not abolishing handshakes, I feel sorry for you. **Not "you" Guru but "you" in general. I feel sorry for your for other reasons..............

Huh? That would mean the KHSAA doesn't have jurisdiction over practices, recruiting...etc. That's not the case. Schools are a part of the KHSAA before, during and after all contests and must adhere to their guidelines.

Is there a reading comprehension issue? No one is saying you can't shake hands. They are simply holding the schools and coaches more accountable for incident's that occur during handshakes, after the game, where the officials no longer have jurisdiction. The KHSAA did not say handshakes are not permitted. If a coach wants to eliminate handshakes because he doesn't want the liability, that's on the coach and ultimately the Principal. People are blowing this way out of proportion, IMO.

They were going for 36 points, not 96. Last year this wouldn't even have been mentioned because they still would need another 9 points to get to a running clock. 36 is too low. That's not Walton's fault. The KHSAA put them in this position by making the threshold too low. If you stop at 35 you risk the outcome or needing to put your starter's back in, which could lead to injury after sitting for two quarters, or whatever. Getting to 36 insures the other team won't have the time to get back into the game and force you into difficult decisions. No problem with it. Move on.

This only says one thing about the #1 team in the state of KY. You still won't know who it is. Just enjoy a great season with a great team. There are 6 classes. If you want to know who the best is tell the coaches to go to 1 class. Until everyone plays head to head you only know who is #1 in each class.

I think most agree with you. Scott does not and should not have the same expectations as Dixie and Simon Kenton. They are at a different place in their program's history.

Right. I was just clarifying that I do think there should be a little more discretion at the youth level than the varsity level. I'm not a fan of beating the snot out of a bunch of 8 year olds to prove a point.

Agreed.

I will say this, if I go to work and beat the dog snot out of my competition not only are they not fining me but they are giving me MORE money. This is not how the real world works. Your boss doesn't tell you to scale it back so the competition feels better about themselves. With that said, before varsity sports there should be a much higher level of sportsmanship. Once you are a 17/18 year old and getting ready to go into the real world, you need to be prepared for it.

Only if you are in Kenton Co. Again, it's great seeing the Kenton Co School District having success in football, all 3 schools. However nothing, including their record, indicates they are the better than anyone besides the teams they beat.

We are in agreement. But like I stated earlier. Larger enrollment sure does help with the ability to platoon, but it's not the only factor. Additionally, the large schools mentioned in this thread should be able to platoon and the small schools they have beaten can't. I have my opinions on large schools that can't platoon but no one wants to hear those.
