Austin Flannery to Scott County
I never said basketball was the sole purpose of the move. I was stating that it had to be a factor. He does seem to have the most legitimate reason, though.

Austin Flannery to Scott County
I'm not saying the move was solely because of basketball, but it is naive to believe that basketball was not a factor. It was stated earlier that Euton, Jackson, Flannery, and Guyn all play on the same AAU team. You still don't think basketball had anything to do with it?

Austin Flannery to Scott County
There is no doubt Scott Co. is already rich in talent. But, like the old addage, "The rich get richer..."

Austin Flannery to Scott County
Yeah, just like Euton's dad's job was the reason they moved. It would be crazy not to think that it has to have something to do with basketball. Scott Co. now has three of the best sophomores in the state. I bet Lexington Catholic and the other 11th Region schools are hating this.

Harlan County High's New Coach
In my opinion, the Bears will be in most games they play. I think they will have close, hard fought battles against opponents they "should" beat, but have close, hard fought battles with those they "shouldn't" beat, as well. I think they will advance to the 13th region tournament with Bell being the other representative. I think the Bears will have the potential to pull some upsets, but, being a group of boys who have never played together, they have the potential for some letdowns as, well. I think Jones and his staff will have this team in "post season form" come tourney time. They could be a tough out.

Harlan County High's New Coach
I loved the way TJ Green played hard, both offensively and defensively. However, his ball handlling is suspect, and he is a step slow defensively, which surprised me. I still think he can contribute in a big way for the Black Bears with his intensity. I agree with both of you that McCoun probably has the most potential. My complaint on him (as YoungBlood hit on) is that I didn't think the effort was always there. In addition to that, his shot blocking ability (as HDE hit on) tends to get him in foul trouble, along with his bad habits of being out of position for rebounds. I like Hogue, and thought that he always played with intensity. Creech is a good shooter, but that is about all I have seen him do, but they may have been because of Cumberland's personnel. Fields from Evarts is as quick as they come, but he leaves the ball behind him at times. But, I agree that he could be hard to guard. He is VERY athletic! I think there is a ton of potential at all three schools. From what I saw this past season, the county has a lot of raw talent that hasn't been refined. I think Jones and his staff can accomplish that this summer, though. I'm excited about the up and coming season for the Black Bears.

That may have been what they were talking about.

Harlan County High's New Coach
Who was the fifth starter? You had: Jones, Thomas, Lester, Cox, and who? Simpson or Hudson? That is who I've heard Hicks would have started over. Of course, this is just speculation. I was but a child back then...haha

Harlan County High's New Coach
I was told that Eric would have started at Harlan, and if he would have stayed, Harlan would have been the clear cut favorite to win the state. However, it didn't work out that way.

Lex Herald-Leader All-State
From the things I've heard about Ervin Stepp, he is viewed as a legend. He scored a TON of points.
-
Lex Herald-Leader All-State
I think Stepp is second on the all-time assist list. Some Jones kid from Harlan is first.

Harlan County High's New Coach
From what I've been told, Hicks' parents had no choice but to send him to Cawood because of the pressure placed on them by the county administration. But, like I said, from what I've heard.

2009 WYMT Mountain Classic Field Announced
I agree 100%. It is just odd to see only one 13th region team in there. However, there may have been a 13th region school who turned down the invite. That is possible.

Harlan County High's New Coach
I've heard that Hamlin has been running through some workouts with a Baltimore man. I hear he is improving. Personally, I thought Simmons should have seen more playing time at Cumberland. He is a pretty athletic kid, and with some hard work, I could see him developing into a penetrator.

I agree. I guess Clay gets the nice gesture.

Who is the best Coach on the market?
Why would Billy Hicks be on the market when he just got two of the best sophomores in the state?

2008 Harlan
The students that attend the middle school at Harlan Ind. aren't allowed to holdback and play sports the hold back year. I think they are going to change this rule this coming year were the athletes can holdback and still play.

Who are the top 15 players in the 2008 "Sweet 16"?
I stood beside of R. Johnson at the "Sweet Sixteen" and he is about 6'3. We all know how the media guides exaggerate the height of these players.

Open Coaching Positions
The latest rumor I have heard about the 13th region is that Elam will be fired, and Miller will be transferring. I have heard there are three schools he could possibly go to: Corbin, Bell or Harlan Co.

Hazard (14th) vs. South Laurel (13th)
They made it to the finals of the All "A" Classic State Tournament, where they took University Heights Academy to the wire. UHA has the #8 player in the nation, and a McDonalds All-American Scotty Hopson on their team. UHA also has a pretty good point guard in Tyshawn Edmonson, potentially an All-State performer. I think that is pretty impressive. I still think this could possibly be the best game of the first round.

Hazard (14th) vs. South Laurel (13th)
Everyone was picking Corbin like this, too. I bet South is loving this. Can someone make this a poll, please?
-
Hazard (14th) vs. South Laurel (13th)
South is a very athletic team, but they are kind of small other than St. John. Hazard has some good sized kids who are athletic as well. I like their chances, too. I'm very torn on this game. It should be a dandy.

Best High School Football player ever
Tim Couch was, by far, the best player to put on the pads in the state of Kentucky. ESPN had him as the 6th best high school ATHLETE OF ALL TIME!!!
