How does Clay get in there every year?

I thought it would have been a nice gesture to have the new Harlan Co. school in the tournament in their first year.

I've always thought the Mountain Classic should have a 2,3,3 setup. Always three teams from the 14th Region. Two teams from both the 13th and 15th Region. The final spot should go to the best remaining team from either the 13th or 15th.

I agree with bellalumni40 about Harlan County. They have a new school and a veteran coach of mountain basketball wars.

Clay probably deserves it more than Harlan County with the players they have returning, but they probably shouldn't have been invited this past season. I'm excited about Harlan County's potential, especially with Mike Jones in charge.

 

Knott could be good if everyone is eligible, but they've been a bunch of times when they shouldn't also.

 

I don't mean any of that to sound like criticism of WYMT. Those guys are tremendous, and we're very lucky to have them covering mountain sports. People around here like to talk about being overlooked, but high school sports in eastern Kentucky are covered better on television than Louisville or Lexington.

All schools have the option to turn in their form to get in the tourney or not. If they choose not to turn it in, they are not eligible for it. I guess Clay always turns theirs in on time! And 4 14th region teams is because of the money thing. If the teams are from closer to where the tourney is at, the more fans will come. I would say that is their thinking on that. If there are 4 14th teams worthy of being in, that is what they have done, but if not, they usually have went with the 3,3,2 setup.

That is what happened last year with the 15th Region. One of the teams wanted in and then dropped out due to a scheduling conflict.
