It is reported today in the Harlan Daily Surprise that the new Boys and Girls coach of the new school will be announced on April 10th @ the village center mall. Also, recent hires of golf, cheer, dance, cross country will also be introduced. After the 10th I guess its off to baseball, track, wrestling and soccer?

 

I talked with a local worker employed by one of the sub-contractors dealing with the school. He say he has never seen anything like the school and says the gym is unreal. Good for Harlan County and good luck Bears! :dancingpa

I don't think that it will be much of a surprise who the boys coach will be; but it could be a surprise to some on the girls coach. I would tell everyone who the coaches are but I don't want to be the one that starts it. I do know that both of them are a done deal, and like lungbuster said they will be announced next Thursday. :thumb:

 

Lungbuster, I too have talked to several people that have been inside the new school and their remarks are "never seen anything like it." One guy told me that there isn't many small college gyms that are nicer then the one that Harlan County will have.

I too have heard that, but I have also heard many more names for the girls job. Since they made a top notch hire for football I am going out on a limb and figure they will do the same for basketball girls and boys. If what everyone is says about the boys than Harlan County High will start off with two of the best coaches in both football and basketball. I am sure the girls will not be any different and I am ready to hear that announcement too.:flame:

3500 with chair back seats all the way around the bottom of the gym. There is a walking track that goes around the top of the gym, and if people were allowed to stand and watch say a regional tournament; then you could possibly get another 1000 people in the there.

So kinda like Knox Central's new gym only a lot bigger?

I was told by Mr. Clem that the Harlan County gym was the biggest in the state of kentucky as far as area ( size). However, they were putting down the floor and he denied my access to take a peek!:mad:

The way it looks on the Harlan County Web page and how it has been described to me they are nothing similiar to the two except goals on each end. However, I really like knox's new school and gym but no comparision to Harlan County.

I hope the seats go all the way around kind of like a stadium and hope there is a rail or wall seperating the fans from the floor...best thing for the players and coaches when it's that way.

The chair back seats do go all the way around; and there have been talk about putting up the railing that you're referring to. I too think that it is the best thing for everyone involved. :thumb:

I understand your thinking and realize the reasons for the railing and or wall but I still like the fans right on top of the floor. I feel this gives high school sports another advantage. For example, a football game that doesn't have a track around the field and the stands sitting right down to the field is so much better as far as the energy and excitement. There is a big, big difference IMO.
