I thought about that, and he's deserving to be on the second group, at least, but since we were playing the "what if" game on that, I would have expected Hicks to stay at Harlan with Blanton, Hudson, Rutledge, Simpson and company if Thomas and Cox weren't there.

I was a senior at Cawood that year, and Eric came to have a chance to play. HDE nailed that one and I didn't think about it. He would've stayed at Harlan if the other group would have stayed in the County.

Eric was a really good player, especially on the defensive side, but it would have been hard to crack that starting lineup at Harlan IMO.

I would guess it had to do with the family and their choosing to enroll in the county. Looking back at the administration during that time I doubt they had an influence. Just my guess.

 

The 85 team looks tough to say the least.

Hey, it makes for good offseason conversation. I watched the Green Dragons then with a lot of interest and it's interesting to speculate how a consolidation 20 years ago might have changed the course of events.

Hicks could have been the player that put the Dragons over the top in 95. That was the year they ran out of gas against a deep PRP team in the final 4 of the sweet 16.

HDE lets get back to the Bears and Coach Jones. We have talked about the point and post position for the Bears. Who are some of the kids returning that can play the two and three spot.

That may have been what they were talking about.

I think the 2-3 spots are the most uncertain.

 

T.J. Green, a Cawood sophomore, is a good athlete who can play 1 or 2. He's strong enough to get to the basket, which Jones likes, but he needs to improve his ball-handling. He's also very good in the clutch, winning a couple of games with some big shots and free throws down the stretch.

Cumberland sophomore Kyle Hogue is another very intense player who gets the most out of his ability and is good on the defensive end. He needs to get a little more consistent offensively, which he should do with experience.

 

The Bears also have a couple of options with very good size. Paul David Creech, a 6-3 junior, is a good shooter but needs to get better on going to the basket.

Brandon McCoun, a 6-5 sophomore, has the most potential on the team. He's a good shooter, rebounder and shot blocker. He just needs to get stronger and more aggressive, which he'll have to do if he's going to play for Jones.
