Very, Very well is the word coming out so far. I had a chance to see the ARENA these kids will call home and I understand the comment Jones made about it in the paper. The best I have seen. REMARKABLE TO SAY THE LEAST.

I look for Jones to coach 4 or 5 more years. I have talked to a few people who say Jones oldest son, and a coach from Cumberland is on the staff.

My guess is five years. Derrick Akal and Michael Jones are on the staff with another later, I'm guessing.

They had the first practice today. If my information is correct it was a true Coach Jones practice. We will see who wants to play basketball and who are along for the ride. I see this team starting slow but towards tournament time people are going to be surprised.

I believe your information might be correct, because that is exactly what I was told as well. Evidently, according to my source, a lot of "aggressive drills" were done (loose balls, charges, etc) for the better part of an hour. Coach Jones will find out who wants to stay and who doesn't, becaues they will have to play his way or not play at all.

 

I agree with you on the Black Bear team possibly struggling out of the gate; but by the end of the year they will be a "tough" out.

Long enough to coach a kid who is in JR. High for his entire high school stay!

After 15 years of coaching and watching Harlan Co. sports, there is no denying this...with the new facility and the credentials of the coaching staff, HC is definitely putting its best foot forward with athletics, especially basketball. No personal intentions are being stated here, I'm just observing the facts as they are in response to a direct question. As Parcells started everyone saying, "It is what it is."

Just my opinion.....I don't know why a kid wouldn't want to play at Harlan Co. and be a good player on a team that has a chance to win the region year in and year out (once Jones gets the ball rolling) rather then to go to Harlan City and be a "STAR" but struggle to get out of the district every year.

 

I guess the question is......Individual stats or a chance at playing in Rupp?

IMO Coach Jones has to get involved in the elementary progams to build a program, like he did at Harlan.
