#39 is Joel Korzep. #26 Travis Edwards has a world of potential. He missed a good part of the season with foot injury.

Russell has some good players on the Freshman team. They have had some injuries and are not very deep in this class.

Bummer. But a close game as usual.

Actually the following week Breathitt beat Russell 28-27 in OT in the state semifinals. A missed extra point was the difference. Then they won the Championship game the following week by 50 some points. That was without a doubt the worst stretch of weather for the playoffs. The Russell/Carroll Co game has already been mentioned. Russell's field was so torn up they used Putnam Stadium to host Mason County, led by Grutza and Lofton, in the Regional final. They won 12-8. That was the week following the Bell Co/Ashland game that was mentioned earlier as well in post #19. So you can imagine the shape that the field was in then.

I never said it was a "slap-in-the-face" to play Raceland. They are one of the top programs in NEKY with one of the best coaching staffs. I also never said that McGlone or anyone else wanted to play a lesser calibur opponent. As far as getting a big name school it was on the table. There were also talks with schools from Ohio and West Virginia. I'm very light hearted already.

I don't get nostalgic over stadiums. Cameron Indoor doesn't do anything for me. I have seen stadiums in Northern KY. Some have nice fields some don't. Shoot Russell's field is not good. You can't get grass to grow there, especially with as dry as it has been this year. God knows they have tried. I would like to see turf go in. But it does have the capacity to hold a bigger crowd much more comfortably.

Russell is not putting this out. I am. East is a district opponent and the games between Russell and East won't draw anywhere near the crowd that this game will. Raceland doesn't have that many more seats than what East Carter does and less parking. Its logistics. Its not personal and its not bitter. That "tomb" is not the best gym around but its not the worst either. It was better than Raceland's old gym until they got the new one a couple of years ago. Which is very nice by the way. I have to say that I would like to see the gym at Russell renovated as well. That said, it has nothing to do with football or this game.

I don't think Fleming will be able to stop the Mason County offense. Mason County 41 Fleming County 14

Greenup County should score early and often. Lewis may put 2 or 3 TDs on the board but the game will not be close.

No offense but not everyone wanted this game. Not that they don't want to play Raceland but not under the current terms of the agreement. If you put the word "at" in there a couple of times it would be more accurate.

Most likely. They have in the past when the two have played. But what a learning experience.

Nobody ever said anything about wanting to play a doormat. There were talks with Highlands and Danville just to name a couple. When it couldn't be worked out and Russell had to have a game This is what was left. In 2009 Ironton is on the schedule. We'll just have to see which of the current teams is left off.

After that I believe his maroon and gold faded together.

Ashland Freshman have too much for the freshman Red Devils. Tomcats should cruise through this one but you never know. I hope its a good game.

#13 Abrams has been playing very well lately. The QB, Jones has played on a bum ankle since the Ashland game. He is a tough kid that is playing through alot of pain. Hopefully the off week before the playoffs will offer an opportunity for it to heal up. I think the lack of a deep passing game was dictated by coverage in the secondary. Russell adjusted after the Simon Kenton game. The threat of the deep pass did however open up the running lanes and the short routes IMO. Russell's return man has shown sure hands in the past. I think it a mental thing right now. The kid has too much talent to worry about it. If he just goes out and plays the game I think it will be fine. I think the decision to go for 2 was probably the right one. If it came down to extra points I think the advantage went to Russell in the kicking game. Again just my opinion. I hope the reamatch occurs. Two good teams that should both play better and still be a very entertaining game.

Actually IF Russell Makes it past East and Mason in the district they would be at home against the winner of Breathitt County's district.
