Dangit, I voted for the wrong team. I think Russell actually is at an advantage in this game. Besides being at home they have been tested as was stated earlier. It reminds me in a way of the 2004 Russell team. That team was never tested all year until they ran into Belfry in the semifinals. When they did they got worn down by a more physical team that had been tested by a tougher schedule that year. Also sometimes scores can be misleading. Russell's offense is very good. It is not the quick strike spread that Breathitt has been putting up big numbers with. It is an offense that can shorten games. Russell winning by 3 TDs is a huge margin. Its just style of play.

Nobody has mentioned it yet but Adam Foster played one heck of a football game. I believe he had 17 tackles, 9 solo and 8 assists. He made big hits on defense as well as offense and really played with more emotion than anyone else on the field. Good job.

Just for the record, I left Thompson out of that original post by accident. When you have three kids that can run the ball like that I think you try to play to your strength.

Because Pollitt and Cox great at running the ball. That is enough of a reason to me. The Russell defense really looked more concerned with shutting down the running game that Mason used so effectively the first time these teams met. In my opinion they did a pretty good job of doing that but it did open up the passing game for Mason.

Your welcome. Another Great game tonight between Mason and Russell. Mason has a very good team. The only bad thing about these teams being in the same district means that one has to go out early. It was classic Russell football in the fourth quarter. A defensive stand and then run out the last 5:00 of the game with the running game. Mason really pulled out all of the stops in this one and Russell made some huge stops when they had to. I still don't understand the ruling on the onside kick in the 3rd quarter. It was either Mason recovering the ball or the Russell player was down when he caught it. I have never seen a do-over before. Then Mason does it again and recovers. :mad:

The field conditions shouldn't have an effect on the game. I was just over by the field and it looks fine. Not alot of grass in the middle but not too bad. I think a healthy Russell team plays a much better game against Mason this time.

I really don't think a feeder system is nearly as important in basketball as it is football. Kids play AAU with other kids from different schools. There are leagues within school systems. Either way as long as kids get to play it is fine. But It takes fewer bodies to build a basketball program. One or two kids can carry a basketball team.

I don't think there is any added pressure to be the favorite in the BGP thread poll. Its pretty meaningless. Skewed for several reasons. Both teams have been in big playoff games in the past and both appear to be healthy. Whichever team makes the fewest mistakes wins.

That post has nothing to do with either Russell or Mason County. There was a post deleted that would explain it. I think Russell and Mason Co have already been tested.

I think you're getting a little ahead of yourself.

I know it does if it is two #1 seeds. But I'm not sure about a #2 vs #1. It may still go by district.

Bailey is a very good player and a playmaker but Abrams has consistantly been the best RB all year. He runs hard and has learned when to hit the hole. Bailey is also a threat as a reciever and can hurt you in different ways. Jone's ankle appears to be feeling much better and that gives the offense an entirely different look. Also if you forget about him Bates runs hard and will make you pay. All together when healthy Russell can give you alot of different options to worry about.

I gotta agree with jeepman on this one. That was the worst game Russell has played this year. Dropping the punts, recievers dropping passes, poor decisions all were uncharacteristic and unforced. I do give Mason credit for playing very hard and they really took the fight to Russell that game. Its not like they played a mistake free ballgame either. Russell is also much healthier this time around. I think it will be a very good game but in the end I believe Russell will come away with the win.
