With all the hype on the youngsters, I would say the veterans proved to be the difference. Senior Ryan Rendgering (sp?). And junior Trevor Booth had some clutch hits when the tigers needed it. Once Beechwood started working on the Rebels relievers, it was all over. I believe all of the tiger runs came with 2 outs.

It was a youth game, but it was actually an adult umpire. It didn't really matter in big scheme of things. Just a frustrating way to end a game.

Don't worry about it TOG. I'm a Beechwood Fan and i will say Schreiver's was a blast and Slusher's WAS wind aided. Doesn't take anything away from him, it was still a HR and it was a great way to start the game off. I'm pretty sure the three Freshman don't need you sticking up for them for them In It 2 Win It.

Been wanting to ask this for a week or so and just forgot. I though the answer was simple, but answers I have gotten are about 50/50 so maybe its not so obvious. Runner on 1st, 1 out. Batter hits a low pop-up and fielder drops it, but tags runner out before reaching first. The runner who is on 1st returns to first safely thinking it was a popup. The 1st baseman tags the runner (standing on 1st base) and UMP calls him out as if the base is not there. Ump stated that the runner cannot return to first. This was the game ending play. Was the call correct or not? I'll go ahead say that I believe once they tag the batter, 1st Base is open to the runner.

If BW had managed to tie it, getting in extra innings definitely would have been a problem IMO. It was around 8 when the game ended. The Tigers made it exciting in the end and were able to leave the field with their heads up. I really question Mullins not making more lineup changes in the BWs last at-bat. OK, some woulda, coulda, shoulda here... BW runner getting picked off in the 7th was a comeback killer. He's a great player and very fast base runner, but I have seen way too many base running errors from him this year. I can think of at least 5. You did your job and got on base. You simply cannot get picked off in that situation. I would blame the coaches, but it was clear in this one that it was not the coach. The batter was walked on the next pitch. Instead of 1st and 2nd with 1 out, we have guy on 1st with two outs. A world of difference in a 1 run game. Both strategy wise and emotionally for the pitcher. I would say I would like to see a Re-match, but I really shouldn't want that. There's something about CCH that is Kryponite for BW. Of course, it might be nice to see a Payback in regionals like we have seen before. Congrats to the Colonels. Related comment... There were Lightning stoppages in this one. What I don't understand is why the rule is in place. Clearly, UMPS, ADs and Coaches just follow the "letter of the law" and not the intent. During the Lightning stoppages, both teams were out of the Dugout socializing with the crowd and horsing around. About 10 minutes before play was allowed to resume, the Pitchers were on the mound warming up. While they seemed to enjoy it, at the beginning of the lightning/thunder stoppage, the Cov Cath players ran to the tarp and unfolded. I'm no expert, but 15 guys out in the middle of field in the pouring rain with lightning in the area holding onto a Wet Tarp is a recipe for disaster. I think the officials involved simply want to say they followed the rule. If there is truly danger as the stoppage suggest, then these players should be sitting in the Dugout. If there isn't danger, then play ball!

It would be great if they could get a few of the players back that the previous coach pushed away. There are some talented athletes in this year's Junior class. Pull in a little leadership and mix with the young talent and instant foundation to build a program on.

Nice win Ryle. Congratulations. That game was everything we expected. Well, except for the result . What a great JV tourney. Some really good games this week. Beechwood, I have really enjoyed watching you guys play. Impressive pitching and great hitting all season long. Be proud of yourselves.

Thanks for the detail. It's a shame that so many administrators think its about them. Should be shooting to get these guys as many games as possible, not restricting them. That said, it sounds like there's a small chance of squeezing this in. This is a spot where Freedom Field would help. Unfortunately, I think this is the Freedom's opening weekend.

Bob used to put on some pre-season clinics for knothole and little league coaches. I learned some great drills from him. He also gave me some good ideas for practice management. He's s good guy and it always seed to be about the kids and teaching them to play and love the game.

No doubt. My mother thought she heard from a Scott parent that he's an 8th grader? is that True? He was solid all night long. Since it's JV, I kept waiting for a bad throw, but it never happened. The pitcher was also awesome. I can tell you that it was one terrific game. It's a shame, but someone has to lose.

Really? Is that a tourney rule or new rule? I have seen plenty of Sunday high school games I also don't understand why it has to be completed before Varsity districts start. I hate rules that seem to be there for no valid reason. I'm anxious to here one.

Why would he announce this befor the season is over? Any idea of the reason given for his decision? I don't recall hearing any negativity about him other than some questioning the lineup.

It is correct that he hasn't pitched JV until now, but he definitely has played more than half of the JV innings. The varsity had a Heavy load of games during the season and it probably didn't make sense to the Varsity coaches to use him up at JV so that he is available in case he was needed at Varsity. I believe he has pitched Varsity, but I'm not sure how much there. I would say his pitching was under-utilized this season. He seemed to be mostly a safety net for Varsity. The truth is that they may just be saving him and trying to slowly develop him into a number one pitcher.

I can agree with this since they would clearly be the #1 Seed if it were a seeded tourney. Obivously, anything can happen. ALL JV teams run very Hot and Cold. Winning a tourney is having some decent skill, combined with well-timed quality play and quite a bit of luck. If Ryle has a Another pitcher at the JV Level as good or better than what we saw in their Matchup with BW, then they would be the favorite. Of course, Miller held them to 3 hits as well. I would love to see that Matchup again, but I'm not looking past Scott at all. They clearly can beat anyone as right now as they have made it to the same point in the tourney as BW. Unlike BigPapa, I can guaranttee you that BW boys are not looking past anywone.

Do you know if this is the kid that pitched when Beechwood and Ryle played last week? That was a great game by both Pitchers.

I believe You are wrong about this. While BW had no chance of winning, the last time they played it was close at halftime. Beechwood had a lot of injuries and then the birds took control in the second half. Edit, I may be thinking of the first game in the series at Beechwood. I do remember a pounding up in the Fort.

I can't answer. I was late getting to the game. I know Beechwood used Hyde and Miller and Feiger closed. Im not sure who pitched for NCC, but when I got there they had just made a pitching change. Ugly game all around. BW will not beat Highlands playing like they did tonight.
