The gate is split after officials and trophies are paid for. That's the only "expenses" that are taken off the top. The visiting school has to pay for travel out of their cut.

And these colleges are going to just let a couple of random high school teams use their facility? By the time the two schools participating paid for buses, personnel to work the game and whatever the college charged for the use of the facility it wouldn't be worth it in my opinion.

Had a fabulous time on my trip. Del Mar is beautiful. We stayed in La Jolla and it's equally beautiful. I won a few bucks Friday, but didn't cash a ticket Saturday until the 10th race. I did get to experience the celebration of the guy that won the Breeders Cup Betting Challenge. He was in the Trophy Lounge with us. Pretty cool.
