My great-niece plays for Montgomery County varsity as a non-redshirt 8th grader. She has had a basketball in her hands since she was barely big enough to walk.

I not talking about how many qualify. I’m talking about fan bases of All A schools. Eastern Kentucky have more than any other region in my opinion.

I know it sounds selfish when eastern Kentucky schools talk about the long distance to Owensboro, particularly after the western Kentucky schools have had to drive long trips to the All A state since it’s inception in 1990. But the majority of the All A schools and fans are in eastern Kentucky. I think my region alone has 12 schools, with only 4 schools that don’t qualify for it.

Owsley County played Prestonsburg at Floyd Central Saturday and was up 11 points at the half and then their 6’ forward Marcum, who had 11 points at the time, had to leave the game with a bruised knee and didn’t play the second half. They still led until about 1:30 left in the game and P-Burg took a 2 point lead. Owsley tied it again but in the end final score Blackcats 39 Owsley 37. There were games all day there but I didn’t get the results except I think Pike Central defeated Breathitt by 9.

Kentucky has a veteran squad for sure but they are going to get better as a team as the season progresses, same as Duke. Gotta remember even though they are older than many teams these young men have never played together before this season. This scenario is new to them too.

The games were played today. Wolfe Co defeated Buckhorn around 12-14 points. Clay Co defeated Breathitt Co by 3 points. Owsley Co defeated Floyd Central 49-43. Hazard over Montgomery Co 33-32. Menifee Co defeated Pikeville 42-40.

I’m located in southeastern Kentucky. Most of the locations on the list are not in eastern Kentucky except in Corbin. They would sure sell more if they had them in Walmart, Mejiers and a few other similar stores. October/November are the two best months for sales when basketball enthusiasts are interested in preseason material.

I have looked for a Catspause preseason magazine in several of the big box stores such as Walmart and Mejiers and haven’t found one. It’s almost the middle of November and they have been out for weeks. Seems like if they want to sell these magazines they would put them in stores that are frequented with heavy shopping traffic. Does anyone have any info where I can find one?

Big get for the Tigers. Phenomenal player. Has never lost a state championship in her high school career and won’t lose one this year either.

Possibly, but Hazard defeated Perry all three times they played last season. And Hazard has most their team returning. They defeated Breathitt handily twice last season but were defeated twice by the Bobcats in OT in tournament games that meant the most. Breathitt had their number in the big games I suppose.

Surely she will be back sometime early in the season. She was injured way back during spring basketball. That’s been over six months and counting.

On another site someone said he compares favorably with former UK guard DeAndre Fox. If so he is going to be a great addition to the team.

This is the worst team UK has had for quite a few years. The Georgia game next week will get ugly quickly. It’s possible they might only win one more game…maybe the one with Ohio. Kroger Field will be sparse with fans later in the season.

Does any former UK players make a good comparison to Johnson’s skill sets?

I heard Campbell County had a 6’7 European transfer who is a smaller version of Dirk Nowitzki. The guy who told me was just relaying what someone in the northern Kentucky area had told him. Does anyone know if this is true?

Owsley County hired Tyson Gross today as their head coach. He was an all regional player at Owsley and graduated in 2005.

Addison Terry has transferred from Owsley County to Montgomery County. The 5’9 junior averaged around 14 ppg and 8.5 rebounds last year for the Lady Owls’ 14th region championship team. Her 6’6 freshman brother also transferred. Their dad, who was the Owls coach last 3 seasons, has been hired as a teacher at Montgomery County.

Evidently the NCAA had zero clue of any of this. UK officials self reported. UNC needs to take notes of this the next time a fake class/grade issue comes up instead of running to a dozen law firms and fighting it tooth and toenail. lol
