Montgomery Co. 8 Johnson Cent. 7
Very lathargic game from JC, and almost embarassing from that particular perspective. Central tried to squeak by with a pitcher that does not throw in the rotation or very much in relief for that matter, due to some staff injuries, and it just plain failed. Oh well. But to give credit to Montgomery, they are much better than their record. We have certainly been beaten by much worse teams in the past. Kudos to Montgomery County.

Lawrence County 4 Boyd County 3
Thanks for the details Bobby!! I have no doubt about Boyd being right in the mix when it counts. Any time the pitching staff only gives up 4 hits and gets 12 K's you cant expect a whole lot more out of them. They've done their job's well. Congrats to Casey and Brad on the offensive side however . Hey, how about J. Moore putting the bat on the ball. Great to see him swinging the stick well.

Matt Fyffe of Johnson Central signs with EKU
On top of all of that baseball talent , Matt is just about the finest kid I know. He has been nothing but a credit to Johnson Central and Central's baseball program. Matt is the type of kid that you hope and pray that your own kid's turns out to be like. Congratulations Matt in getting to continue your career at the next level. I will say first and foremost that it has been some more of a ride with you and your family the last several years. How about we go out and finish it all up with a bang this year? Best of luck always. By the way, Matt was also hitting 90-91 again last night.

Williamsburg 6 Middlesboro 5 (9 innings)
Thanks. I was expecting big things from that group. I thought they had a lot of talent.

Williamsburg 6 Middlesboro 5 (9 innings)
Is this group still all intact from the SR State Championship team?
-
Williamsburg 6 Middlesboro 5 (9 innings)
I'm kind of surprised that Middlesboro is not having a great season. I assume that this group still has basicly the same bunch of kids that won the State Senior League Tournament a couple of years ago and went on to coming very close to reaching the World Series. Is this group still all intact?

New Ky Baseball Coaches Poll
They were ranked 25th last week before going to South Carolina. Not the greatest of trips knocked them out of the top 25. Hopefully the next poll will get them back into it.

Matt Fyffe goes the first 6 inning allowing only 3 hits and Justin Blanton closes the 7th by striking out the side. Great win for the Golden Eagles.

Your Top 25 as of 4/7/07
Boyd County has to be in the top 25 somewhere. Johnson Central and Rockcastle are both good teams, while Bowling suffered the loss in both games for Boyd. He is at best Boyd's #3 pitcher, maybe their #4.

Rockcastle Co 4 Boyd Co 2
Actually Bowling is about Boyd's #3 pitcher at best, possibly their #4. Face Moore or Perkins and you see a different ball game. Boyd's bats will come around by the time it matters.

Great school , but $40,000 per year. Better hope you can qualify for aid or have stellar academic numbers.

Johnson Central 2 Boyd County 0
Great game to watch, with a great crowd. Fyffe went the first 6 and only gave up 4 hits. Blanton got the save coming in in the 7th and striking out the side. Boyd Co. only gave up 3 hits as well. Boyd hurt themselves with 3 costly errors and made some poor decisions running the bases. Could have very easily been a 0-0 game going into the 8th. One of the better games I've watched.

Elliot County 68 Shelby Valley 55
I agree with you to a point, but there was not even an abundance of great talent even 3 or 4 years ago, but I will highly disagree with your assessment of the Paintsville squad as far as them being able to contend with anybody in the Sweet 16. I have always scratched my head on your continuous hype as to the extreme amount of talent on that squad. That is one of the most over-rated and over hyped groups to ever play in the 15th region, and in all fairness it has not been completely the kids's fault. What they lack is an inside presence and ATHLETICISM. You can compensate for a lack of heigth sometimes with quickness and strength, but overall they have neither and they certainly dont play within a team concept on top of that. They are just a competetive team in a collective world of 14th ,15th and 16th region weak teams, nothing more. Not trying to down the Paintsville players , the program or anything of the sort, but perhaps maybe one of the reasons that they fall short of some expectations is that they have it in their heads (because of posts like these) that they are better than they actually are. It certainly shows on the floor at times. From the very beginnings of these kids high school careers they have been touted as the next super group because they had the simple fortune of getting the opportunity to play on the varsity level at that early age, simply because the Paintsville program was really depleated of upper classman talent and Bill Mike just had no option as to put anyone else on the floor. It certainly wasn't because those guys just beat upperclassmen out,.....there was no body else. It has not been fair to these kids to parallel them with Bill Mike's first really good team in '84 or '85 with the group of Couch, Pelphrey, etc., and when all 5 players started as freshmen. This group is no where close to having the talent that that group had, but they were unfairly projected to be. The basis for my comments is that this group was no better in 8th grade, (and in a lot of cases not as good) ,as the respective groups their own ages at Johnson Co. Middle , Dorton, and Virgie. The reason why those groups didn't get continous hype was because those kids had to wait their turns on upper classmen to graduate before they got their chance to play at the varsity level. As you can see now that proof has surfaced. Posts like yours have really unfairly placed too lofty of expectations on a group of very young KIDS at the time. As you can see now they are not better right now as upperclassmen than some other very young squads they they are now playing against such as Shelby Valley or Elliott Co. Yes, I know they beat Elliott in the All "A", but with Ferguson ( Elliott Co) at full strength that game would have turned out entirely different, IMO.
