  1. Congratulations from your friends and family in Johnson County.
  2. Perhaps someone else did get a full ride. I cant say for certainty that it does not happen. I just personally have never seen evidence of anyone actually getting one.
  3. If the Feds are involved I am sure that you can next look at the IRS getting involved. Seems to me they may have reason to consider possible tax evasion charges if any gambling earnings went unreported.
  4. I personally have never heard of anybody getting a FULL BASEBALL RIDE. I have heard of some getting a full ride coupled with academic money and/or with some other sort of financial aide package. I was at a University of Tennessee camp one time when Coach Delmonico was talking on this subject, and he made the statement that he has never once given a player a full ride in baseball.
  5. I'm with tcjkbt in not knowing exactly what criteria is used in "divying up" the funds. Do you have 11.7 scholarships to offer based on the rate of in-state tuition or based on out-of-state tuition. Since out-of-state is generally double what in-state is, that is a very good question of which base line do they use. Maybe you answered that question with your post, but if you did, it went way over my head. But then again, that's not hard to do.
  6. Then just what exactly are you trying to say then. Your exact statement was: "College teams aren't playing official games in the fall. If a kid is a couple of days late for school because he's playing for his local legion team and a college coach has a problem with it.........tough" I guess I'm a little confused on what you are trying to get at then. It seemed to me that you were trying to say that that is what the player should be telling his college coach. I guess now you are saying that that is not what you are trying to say? Are you saying that players other than Louisville players shoud take this stance? I'm really not understanding here. Again , for the 3rd time I ask, if Paducah should by fortune advance further in the tournament should all of the college coaches with all the players involved excuse every player in question from their fall particpation for the duration of the post season regardless of the time period that it would take away from their own teams? IMO,that just seems a little unfair to the rest of the players on the college teams who chose to play on summer teams that ended their seasons in time to comply with the college schedules. I guess you are trying to say that American Legion players should be given special preferential treatments because they are playing in an organization who does not seem conscience enough to avoid potential conflicts with every college program in the country? Tell me exactly how much time, in your opinion, these players should be excused westsider?
  7. My question here is just who actually makes the calls and runs the team anyways? Do the players? Paducah's coach was tossed in the 2nd inning, just as he was ejected in a previous game against Ashland earlier in the summer in the 2nd inning. Well that doesn't make a whole lot of sense because he headed straight to the bullpen in the 9th inning way before Paducah even had a chance in the 10th. Remember here that the game was basicly over. Ashland had two outs and two strikes on the potential last batter of the game with a 5-3 lead in the top of the 9th and he was still throwing in the pen before Hall pitched the bottom of the 9th. Remember here that Paducah scored both runs that tied the game after two outs and two strikes on this batter, (who should have struck out due to a terrible call by the plate umpire BTW). The fact is that Hall was much more effective than Shaw to begin with. Shaw had been hit hard and hit often. If this would have been the case why take Shaw out to begin with? The whole thing just didn't make any sense to me.
  8. To get away from this for a moment. How did Paducah fare in games either yesterday or today?
  9. Going by what the player in question has said the meeting entails, I'll stay with my position. I simply feel that the Louisville staff should lessen its hard-line approach. But it's their team, and they can do what they want with it. It would be more interesting to see a quote from the horses mouth himself instead of you paraphrasing for him. Besides, you were adamant earlier that Paducah was not your team and Shaw was not your pitcher. You sure seem to be all engrossed and all knowing in something you claim as to not being either a part of, or to have a vested interest in. Seems that that was exactly Louisville's thought also. Looks like they were not interested in what you or anyone else thought about how they should run their program.
  10. And might I add, throw in the bullpen during the Paducah part of the 9th inning. That might be a glaring example of why Louisville felt that it was time to get him away from that type of coaching mentality. I have never seen anything like that done before.
  11. I beg to differ . You seem to be changing your story line mid stream here. You are the very bird that said that if any college coach did not like their player to miss being part of the college team activities.......... then tough. Perhaps that hard line approach is why Louisville was able to make it to the College World Series and most of the rest were not. Perhaps the no nonsense approach is why they were a cut above the rest this past season.
  12. In the big scheme of things I fail to see anything all that compelling.
  13. Who wouldn't rather be playing than conditioning and unless someone from the Louisville staff has discussed with you personally what will be going on, how can you be so confident it could be handled over the phone and diss it off as not being all that critical? It isn't like he's going to be hanging out at the beach in Louisville either. Louisville was hardly chopped liver this past season. I can imagine that competition for playing time will be very intense. I think that I would be very worried about making my best impression to the staff, right from the get go. If Paducah were to advance, then how much longer would he be out of Louisville? One, possibly two more weeks. That's a lot of time to sacrifice for an incoming freshman and that is a lot of time to expect the coaching staff to excuse. It kind of appears that Shaw has decided that the "tough" approach may not be the wisest route to go afterall.
  14. I think your probably right. All he had to do was say that's tough coach...... j/k westsider
  15. You are absolutely right. Fall determines your spring status.
  16. Well now.....that has got to be one of the most thoughtless statements I have ever seen someone post on BGP. Goody, goody for Tilford that UK was going to let him play. Say perhaps Cohen would not be receptive to him missing classes and missing whatever else the baseball program was going to be doing this week. I can just see Tilford walking into Cohen's office and telling Cohen, I'm going , you can't stop me, and if you dont like it well then that's just tough. Yeah, that's really going to happen. Let's take this one step farther. I can just see you walking into your employers office and telling them hey, I'm going to the other side of the state to watch an American Legion baseball game and if you dont like it then that's just tough. It's the same difference. Get real here. College coaches are only interested in their own programs (because that is what they are paid to worry about) and could really care less about what an American Legion team does or does not do. You reckon that Coastal Carolina really cares if Witten's team gets to play as a runner up in the regionals? I would venture to say that the most important thing for Witten or any other player is to get their tails to whatever school they are playing for and get with the program. I really dont know what your agenda is in your discussion on this one. Perhaps you just dont have anything else to dump on someone else about this time....who knows. Your team is playing in it anyways, why would you care if the other team is Danville, Bowling Green, Ashland, or Possom Trot? It's no skin off your teeth either way. Who really cares if Danville wants to (or can) play in the thing anyways? These kids all have scholarships riding on what they do with their college programs. I can just see any kid in their right mind telling their coaches .... that's just tough coach. If Tilford was OK'ed to play in this from Kentucky then hooray for Tilford. What about the classes he or any other player will miss? I kind of think that is the real objective of going to school anyways. I'll tell you what westsider. I have two sons that both play college baseball, one that actually went 3 for 4 against your Louisville bound pitcher in the Legion State tournament and my sayso as a parent in this whole deal is, your both going to school boys. I'm not going to let them miss one day of class. I love the experience that American Legion gave my one son, love the coaches, appreciate the effort and time they put in, and I am 100% behind the program, BUT priorities are priorities. I am sure that most parents agree with me on this issue. The truth is American Legion does start this thing way to late in the year. I know Kentucky high schools start earlier than some other states, but not all of them. I am sure there are a lot of high schools nation wide that are starting school during the time frame of the American Legion post season. This is just the regionals. What about the next step. That even takes it later than what the regionals are. It could very well mean more than being a couple of days late. It could mean a couple of weeks. You just need to think a little more about what you just said.
  17. What my doctors told me, is that for years many doctors would prescribe antibiotics over the phone to a local pharmacy to be picked up by the patient without an actual examination being done by the doctor on the patient. A lot of times the patient would ask for antibiotics mistakenly thinking they would be the cure all for the common cold or flu, and Mr. Doctor, in fear of losing that patient's business would heed to their wishes. The problems lies in that these ailments are caused by viruses not bacteria. Also a thing to note is that people sometimes only take their antibiotic medication to the point to where they begin to feel better without finishing the entire dosage, which leads to immunities in our bodies. This has caused these particular strains of bacteria to become resistant and immune to the natural antibodies in our systems and to many of the common antibiotic treatments. Thus a "super bug" has evolved partly because of the two scenerios that I just mentioned.
  18. Not exactly so. Mine did not start as a pimple. It started as a small irritation on my elbow where the skin just simply dried and cracked leaving an entrance port for the bacteria, and within 12 hours of the infection and swelling becoming evident, I was under a surgeon's knife. I then spent two full weeks in the hospital and 6 more weeks of IV antibiotics, twice a day at home. It would not be possible to seek attention much quicker to the symptons than I did.
  19. I am sure that college beginning was going to be a big factor involving any team still left. Just about all kids that are involved in the Kentucky state universities baseball programs are to report this week, so those players are now the under the thumb of their college coaches. It was told during the tournament that Danville would not go to the regionals unless they were the state champs. Dont know the reason why, but that was what some Danville people were stating last week. I am sure there are people that post on this board that could go much deeper in detail that I can give. Also FWIW, Ashland almost became the other representative instead of Bowling Geen. I am not sure of all the details on that as well, because something was evidently worked out at the last minute, but it was going to be a strong possibility a couple of days ago that Ashland would be heading to Paducah.
  20. You are correct. The "I" was a typo. I was given three different antibiotics in my series of treatments. The first triggered an allergic reation, and the second then decimated my white blood count before a third was administered. "Bottom line" this stuff is a nasty beast and the treatments can be ravenous to your body. You absolutely CANNOT stress proper disinfectant practices enough. It's sure not a pleasant experience to go through this stuff. Remember we are talking two solid months of treatments in my case, and oral doses of antibiotics were never an option for me. I sure do hate to see anyone else go through what I had to endure this summer.
