  1. Oh yeah, that's real funny. No, they were not forced to broadcast outside of anything. They sat right in the pressbox where I indicated in my previous post. I think that used a dail up telephone radio loop to broadcast.
  2. The CovCath radio annoucers were postioned in the extreme left hand end of the press box right beside the door where you enter the pressbox. Perhaps the door was open, as you can see the close proximity to the fans that could make the fan noise level very high. And by the way Wal-Mart is about 3/4 of a mile away from the field.
  3. For one thing, nobody even knows for sure if the first cent even came from KERA or SEEK monies in the first place or not. Perhaps JC is just the benefactor of a huge private endowment or corporate sponsonship, who knows (I guarantee that you dont), but here you are a couple of hundred miles away from Johnson County and admittingly claiming to not knowing the first thing about Johnson Central or any of the JCBOE, and you have the gall to say that there is more than likely financial abuse in the way in which Johnson Central is funding their sports complexes. How did Dunbar acquire the facilities that they have? How did Letcher Central? How did Belfry? How did Bryan Station? Those are all ultra modern, state of the art sports complexes too. I guess all of these school systems are all just full of crooks as you seem to want to imply. I am particularly amused by your lame comment about keeping tax monies in the geographic locations in which they are generated. My, but you certainly put a lot of thought into that statement. I sure would like to have all that coal severence money that was generated HERE in eastern Kentucky sent back to us here in eastern Kentucky that was sent to your neck of the woods to build YOUR 4 lane highways. All of our school districts here in eastern Kentucky could all probably build Super Domes and each county could possibly have all of their rural county gravel roads blacktopped, if we didn't have to finance the infrastructures that you are recieving the benefit of, courtesy of eastern Kentucky coal resources. Would you care to take the responsibility upon your shoulders to see that someone could send that huge check back to us since it worries you so much that each should keep that which is so rightfully theirs?...... Thanks in advance, we appreciate your help in this and your sincere concern..................... And just when you think that nobody out there cares.:irked: Instead of taking pot shots at progressive and enterprising school systems that have a little vision, why dont you spend your time trying to light a fire under your own school district officials to see if they might try to improve some of your own facilities that you are claiming to be so lacking. To me, the time spent doing that would be more personally beneficial and self serving.
  4. I sure hope that KERA money will not be used to pay for any of those lights!!! I'm just kidding.
  5. Again why is the fault of someone else that the school in their district may not be up to par? How is it always someone else's fault that a person has a dozen junk cars in their own front yard sitting up on blocks. Why is it always someone else's fault that someone else has enough garbage lying around their mobile homes to fill up a land fill? How about for one time someone taking first hand responsibility for living in the enviroment they subject themselves to?
  6. Maybe if some actual true facts were used then they might be. I take it you have never had anyone work for you quit or threaten to quit you because they are making too much money because the government is now going to take away their food stamps or raise their rents in government subsidzed housing facilites. Ask that you to pay them in cash so they can keep all of the govenment freebies. It gets down right frustrating seeing people capable of living better than you do by sitting at their mailboxes at home waiting on that first of the month check. Those are some of the very people that show up in those statistics that some of you are referring to as the gospel.
  7. Yes they are meaningless when there is work, and no one will take the jobs that are available. The numbers you are so prouldly flashing around do not show the number of people that choose to live the way they do.
  8. Hospitals are getting on the radio and begging for doctors and nurses to come to work, offering sign on bonuses every day.
  9. How many millions of dollars have the taxpayers been spared by doing stringent up-keep and maintenence on the current facilities that we have by trying to make them last well beyond the normal lifespan?
  10. Apparently the only way that a lot of you guys can be part of this conversation is to pull up absolutely meaningless numbers. Again if you are not from the area and understand what is here and the mentality of the inhabitants, please dont get involved in this one.
  11. As you said, it is not ultra modern, but it is state of the art in many aspects. You will not find a 40 year old school building anywhere in the country that is as well kept or maintained than Johnson Central High School. It looks as good or better than it did when it was built. Perhaps it's just that our community is very proud of who and what we are and strive to elect Board Members whose main objective is keeping our school sytem the very best it can be both academically and asthetically. It's nothing more than P.R.I.D.E.. Guess what? It's free and anyone can practice it.
  12. You'll not catch most of the folks you are refering to caught dead in a $25,000 vehicle. What you'll see most of them in would be the "Denali" or the "Eddie Bauer" versions. They look better sitting beside those mobile homes. It's really all quite simple. All you have to do is make your mind up that you intend on being nothing short of the best. Anybody can do that if they want to. . Thank you, but again it's something that anyone can do if they dont care to get their hands dirty. I started with virtually nothing.
  13. I dont mean to be a critical of you cchs81, but how could you or Rockmom possibly understand eastern Kentucky? As BRJB has tried to tell you, eastern Kentucky probably has more millionaires per capita than anywhere else in the state. About 30 years ago Pike County alone had more millionaries per capita than anyplace in the world. What you dont understand is that eastern Kentucky was ruined by a political figure some years ago that brought a dependent mentality to his constituants. The man spent what seemed to be like three lifetimes in the U.S. House of Representatives. His name was Carl D. Perkins. Perkins can be praised for helping to get our area alot of good and needful things, such as roads, hospitals, better schools, etc. He achieved many , many postives for our area. The down side to what he brought our area was also a dependent attitude towards government assistance. (West Virginia has there own version of Perkins in Robert C. Byrd, BTW.) As BRJB has mentioned a lot of the people in this area live exactly the way they want to live. It is now easier to just wait at the mailbox on the 3rd of the month than do go out and get a job. Again as BRJB has mentioned we are begging for people to work here. I am a private employer and my average worker makes anywhere from 35-40K a year and it is virtually impossible to get someone to show up for work. Yes , you will see a lot of trailers sitting on the hillsides , which most associate with poverty, BUT nobody seems to want to mention the brand new 4 wheel drive pickups, the SUV's, the new Ranger Bass boats, or the Honda Foremens that sit out in the driveways beside them. Priorities are what is distorted. To me, one of the very worst things that ever happened to eastern Kentucky came as a by-product of someone meaning to do well. As for education, Pikeville High School, Paintsville High School , and Johnson Central High School are some of the most academically affluent high schools in the state of Kentucky. Johnson County Middle School currently is in the middle of an academic dynasty with having now won 4 consecutive (5 total)Governors Cup Middle School competition state titles and numerous state runners up titles in the last 10 years. They have made a habit of kicking the proverbial hind ends of the Lexington and Louisville traditional magnet schools. The jobs are here if one wants to work and the schools are top notch if anyone wants to learn. What we dont need is more government subsidies to encourage laziness. What a great portion of our people need is a good dose of pride in themselves and a kick in the pants to become socially productive and not wait for someone to do everything for them, and most importantly the very last thing that we need is sympathy from those know it alls from the metropolitan areas of the state whose only knowledge of the area comes from a pie chart.
  14. The only farming that I know of that produces any revenue in Eastern Kentucky, would be a very little bit of tobacco farming that is now almost vitually gone, and I would say that almost none of that particular crop was ever a significant part of the economy of the southeastern portion of Kentucky.
  15. If you have ever been to the East Cobb Sports Complex in Marietta, Ga. and participated in the Perfect Game Tourney you would see that the East Cobb program produces some of the top baseball teams in the nation. There are usually about 150 teams from across the country that play in this particular tournament, and East Cobb traditionaly has about a dozen or so teams participating in the tourney and they are all VERY GOOD. The East Cobb area has to be, without a doubt, the ametuer baseball capital of the world.
  16. Congratulation to another of the finer kids and family that I have gotten to know the last few years. Tyler will do well at King College. Again congratulations and best of luck with the remainder of your summer season with the Hounds.
  17. I think the slow start could be attributed to several things. A) You had two groups of players from Johnson Central and Greenup Co. that joined the team a couple of weeks late due to those two respective teams playing at Applebees. B) A couple of kids that joined the team a couple of weeks late due to wanting to take a week or so off after the regular season to catch their breaths and to get ready to go at it again. C) A couple of kids that may not have had the interests of the TEAM CONCEPT in mind before departing a few weeks ago. D) Just nothing simply more than Coach Lewis trying to find the right combination in the right positions for a group of new kids on the block that would mesh. Post 76 has been a lot of fun to watch. I have especially enjoyed watching this group of young men bond with each other and genuinely see them care for one another and respect the friendships they have forged. There is nothing more enjoyable than summer baseball , not only for the players but for the parents and for the fans if everyone involved is truely interested in going out and playing hard each and every night while demonstrating a true respect for the game. I agree with cvillecat in that this is a very talented group of players in which the biggest majority of will be playing at the college level next year. Kudos to Coach Lewis and his staff on doing a great job with this group of fine young men. It has been a very enjoyable summer.
  18. That was whom I assumed he was talking about.
  19. Oh, I see!!! Could it be he also stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night as well?
  20. Sheesh!!!! Lets at least get the name right. His name is Cal Ripken. Kind of makes me wonder if you really know much about the subject at all. After all the guy is a baseball legend.
  21. Yes, it will still be grass, and I agree with you 100%.:thumb:
  22. From someone that has a vested interest in Patriot baseball, congratulations and welcome aboard.
  23. As nice as the football field is/will be, construction/demolition of a brand new adjacent baseball and softball facility has also begun. Johnson Central has been known for it's outstanding baseball facilities for over 30 years, but renovation became evident. The new baseball and softball fields will be just as impressive as what the football facilities will be. There will also be 4 brand new tennis courts added, and as you can see, a brand new 8 lane track as well as other track and field accomodations. Phase III of the athletic project will also include a multi-sport indoor training complex. I also need to include the three brand new youth baseball/softball fields that were built last year that became home to 700 kids to play summer baseball and softball. When it's all said and done, Johnson Central will have one of the finest athletic complexes in all of Kentucky.
