  5. I think you are wrong. As of this point, only the four state teams have been confirmed: E'town, Henderson, Ashland and Franklin County. Other ones, plus matchups, are determined by LIT ratings later this month. Can't imagine Butler, Sacred Heart or Male (currently undefeated) would NOT be in it, yet all three Bullitts (Bullitt East, Bullitt Central and North Bullitt) would BE. That doesn't make any sense at all.
  6. CLARENCE GLOVER (Caverna) Clarence Glover NBA Stats | Basketball-Reference.com Clarence Glover - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia GARFIELD SMITH (Campbellsville) What the Hell Happened to...Garfield Smith? | CelticsLife.com - Boston Celtics Fan Site, Blog, T-shirts EKU Colonels - Hall of Fame Both Glover and Smith played in the NBA. TICK ROGERS of Hart County (Louisville) deserves to be in the conversation, I would think. ANTWAIN BARBOUR (JUCO/UK) was Mr. Basketball at Elizabethtown. Also has a tryout with the Cavs ... when LeBron was there the first time. STEFFPHON PETTIGREW (WKU) of Elizabethtown was Mr. Basketball. Both Pettigrew and Barbour are still playing overseas. ELTON SCOTT (Marion County/West Virginia) was also Mr. Basketball. JARED MCCURRY (Elizabethtown) played overseas. KEVIN BRIDGEWATERS (Adair/Chattanooga) is still playing overseas and was a Mr. Basketball finalist. John Hardin has had several D-I guys in its short time: Brandon Bland (Bowling Green), Maze Stallworth (Morehead), Greg LeSage (Green Bay), Brandon Price (WKU). When Meade was still in the 5th, Bart Miller lit it up for Meade. Played at Marquette. JAMES JETER of North Hardin was inducted into the KHSAA hall of fame in 1992. Maybe best pure athlete to ever play in 5th Region, as his track records spoke for themselves. http://khsaa.org/hallfame/1992.pdf DONTAIE SMITH of North Hardin held the state's single-game 3-point record at one point. Younger brother QUINTON SMITH was also a 3-point master who played D-I (Morehead). The Sykes brothers, older Joe (Louisville) and younger Jamarious (Jackson State) both played at North Hardin. ... Jamarious is arguably tallest player in region history at 7-FOOT-2. http://basketball.realgm.com/player/Jamarious-Sykes/Summary/23457 Four guys who went pro in other sports also played basketball in the 5th. Current NFL lineman Brandon Deaderick played basketball at E'town. Former UK lineman Zipp Duncan, who had a brief stint in the NFL, played basketball at E'town. Quarterback Andre Woodson, who was briefly with the Giants after setting records at UK, was runner-up for Area Basketball Player of the Year (to LaRue's Roman Ritchey) for North Hardin. And current free-agent pitcher Nathan (Nate) Adcock played basketball for North Hardin.
  7. I've heard the same thing. IF Engstrand was let go because he didn't live in Green County or had no plans to, that stinks. Housing market in Hardin County is much better and the commute isn't bad. Plus, his wife doesn't work in Green -- correct me if I'm wrong -- and if she works closer to E'town than Green, it would make sense to live in Hardin County.
  8. Duncan is an intriguing name. Not sure LaRue has reached out to Duncan. Not sure if Duncan has reached out to LaRue. If he wants to stay at Logan, I don't blame him. He has family (son, daughter) nearby. Closer to family now than he was at Murray. If Duncan goes back to LaRue, he would be 90 minutes or so from some of his kids (further than Logan, but closer than Murray). I don't blame Duncan either way: Stay (at Logan) or go (to LaRue).
  9. No, but I would consider a state championship the ultimate success, the pinnacle, reaching the top. Other guy had three straight winning seasons at a program not really known for winning. Made region final. Set school record for wins. He should be in the school's top-five for wins, I would think. I'd say winning at a program not known for winning, and hosting playoff games (when they hadn't hosted a whole lot before) is major success.
  10. The other guy HAS had big-time success. However, in the past five years (10-11-12-13-14), Jaggers has more playoff wins than the guy in question. Guy in question has at least four playoff wins, maybe more. Would think more including assistant roles.
  11. Open enrollment can be fickle, though. Jefferson has open enrollment. As such, it's hard for Moore, Shawnee, Western to climb back from the have-nots to the haves. Hardin County (public) and Elizabethtown (independent) have a quota tradeoff. Meaning if you apply and get picked, you can go to the other. Elizabethtown also allows tuition for out-of-district kids. Scott County has proven it can compete, though, in most sports across the board.
  12. Which of those 22 is Veneman better than? Easy to say he deserves a spot (and probably does). But a lot harder to say which kid you would take off. Or why one of the kids on the list does NOT deserve a spot. Even if you only take off one, you're saying Veneman was No. 22 (and not a lot higher, which some people believe he should be). In that case, you'd have to "out" several kids who you would put Veneman over. That ain't easy. Personally, I have no idea where to put him. However, that's a pretty decent list.
  13. Yup. I've said this before and I'll say it again: If I have a daughter and she wants to pursue volleyball at the highest level (club, earn a scholarship), then I doubt she'll be attending Bullitt Central, Waggener, Doss, etc. I'll do whatever I can to get her to SHA-Mercy-Assumption and that has NOTHING to do with magic or the evil R-word. It has to do with putting her in a position to succeed. I wouldn't be shocked if Bullitt Central has lost kids to Bullitt East, just because BE is historically better and close by. FWIW, I have NO ties to ANY of the schools I just mentioned above.
  14. Don't think anyone expected him to have immediate success at Logan. However: - He clearly left Logan in a better place than which he found it - Very few coaches have had success at Logan - Previous year, Logan was outscored by 511 points and allowed 59 points per game. This season in Duncan's first year, Logan was outscored by 384 points (an improvement of 127 points) and allowed 43.6 points per game (an improvement of 15.4 points per game). He improved a program not many coaches, especially who have appeared in state finals/semifinals, would even think about leaving for. Greener pastures it certainly was not. Not sure there's any green at all in Logan's pasture. Pretty sure it's all dirt (like the convicts' practice field in The Longest Yard).
  15. Not my place to name him. ... He still has a job (which he took less than 3 years ago). He might not even want the LaRue job. People keep mentioning him because: - He has strong ties to LC (either as a player or assistant) - Has coached nearby - Has had success -- big-time success -- at a program LaRue has faced. If someone else throws his name out there, then I'll comment (I didn't mention Duncan until someone had "broke the ice").
  16. It was just a confusing post, that's all. Best of luck to Holy Cross. Sacred Heart is always a tough team and Lincoln has been fairly solid recently. I'd think Holy Cross beats East Carter to set up best of the north vs. the best/second best in the state. Honest question: Is Holy Cross that much better than Highlands? Saw the (Lady) Bluebirds haven't lost yet, either.
  17. You're right. I apologize. I thought it said final AT 8. Read right over it. You didn't type/write anything I referenced. Again: I goofed. My fault. My bad. However, as far as the NKY ranking, do we use those here? I mean, does anyone on BGP care if Bell County is No. 1 (in the mountains or by WMYT viewership or whatever) or ACS No. 1 (in Bowling Green/SKY by the BG Daily News poll)? So when you say Holy Cross is No. 1, don't be shocked when people get confused or don't know what you're referring to/referencing at first. As far as winners bracket final 8? Who calls it that? Quarterfinals? Sure. Elite eight? Yup. Third round? Yes sir. Still, Holy Cross is a very good team. Quality side to contend with. Wouldn't be shocked to see them at Diddle. Could/should beat East Carter. Could give E'town a good, competitive game (which NEITHER team has had many of this year ... both teams have destroyed most of their KY competition).
  18. Holy Cross is a very, very good team. They deserve some attention. They'll beat a lot of people this season. However, unless it plays E'town this week, it won't play a local team of mine this year (based on Holy Cross' schedule). So you're way off base on that one. And I also doubt people would take Holy Cross over nationally ranked Elizabethtown (three D-I signees, PLUS two other players with multiple D-I offers PLUS the state's Gatorade Player of the Year/National Player of the Year candidate Erin Boley).
  19. Ranked No. 1? Maybe in NKY, but not by many people statewide. Butler or E'town is No. 1 overall. According to the BGP rankings, E'town is No. 1. http://bluegrasspreps.com/ky-girls-basketball/bluegrasspreps-com-girls-293728.html Also, they're NOT in winner's bracket final. Nor is the game at 8 (it's 8:30, as there is a game at 7 on the same floor and it's darn near impossible for Game 1 to start at 7 and Game 2 to start at 8). Holy Cross is just in the quarterfinals, not final. It's a 24-team tournament. You don't win two games and make the final already. Holy Cross plays East Carter at 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the quarters. IF it wins, it plays 1-of-3 teams (E'town, Grayson or ACS) in the semifinal at 5:15 p.m. Monday. IF it wins again, it would meet 1-of-8 teams (Lewis, Butler, Warren Central, Blazer, LexCath, Mercy, South Warren or GRC) in the final ... at 3 p.m. TUESDAY. Here is the official bracket: http://www.lexingtoncatholic.com/images/files/Athletics/gbasketballtourney2014.pdf
  20. One of the names (NOT Duncan) I've heard associated with the possible new LaRue coach has bounced around. And outside one program more than 3 years ago, has had limited success. Put it this way: Jaggers himself has MORE playoff wins since 2009 than the guy (again: NOT Duncan) some people want to replace him with. If you are referring to Duncan, I would NOT blame him for coming back to the area. It would be a bit of a slap to Logan to say he took that job to get closer to Bowling Green and THEN move to LaRue (further from BG than Logan). But Logan is a leapfrog job at best (and a career killer at worst). Duncan's a home-run hire if LaRue lands him. Pretty sure Josh Jaggers would agree.
  21. If hire is made from in-house personnel, things won't sit well in the Land 'O' Lincoln. I'm not throwing any currently-employed coaches' names out there, but there are some head coaches out there that have LaRue ties. Incuding one which might not even have to move houses to take the job. MrKnowNothing, OptionFootball are sharing my same line of thinking ...

  23. I highly doubt it's going to be a retired coach, well-known or not. My guess is next coach will definitely have LaRue ties, whether as former Hawk player/student or former LC assistant.
  24. Hardin and Meade are both Eastern. Ohio and Muhlenberg are both Central time zone. Not much difference between Ohio and Muhlenberg for CH/MC. -- Still a haul for CH/MC to Ohio/Muhlenberg. -- Little crowd at either game.
  25. Harlan County: Cawood/Cumberland/Evarts Letcher County Central: Fleming-Neon/Letcher/Whitesburg McCracken County: Heath/Lone Oak/Reidland Mercer County: Merged into by Harrodsburg in 2006 Muhlenberg County: Muhlenberg North/Muhlenberg South Webster County: Merged into by Providence in 2006 or 2007 While Collins, North Oldham and South Warren have had success, it's doubtful Shelby County, Oldham/South Oldham and Greenwood/Warren Central would be consistent 6-A powers. Meade did extensive renovations to stay one school, yet Nelson split -- and became two mediocre athletic programs across the board. Washington built a replacement school instead of splitting. Taylor is planning a replacement school. Robertson County replaced Deming. MMI closed. Holy Rosary (girls school) in Louisville closed. South Floyd and Allen Central have had merger talks, would form Floyd County High School. There have been a slew of new split-off schools - Collins, Cooper, North Oldham, South Warren, Thomas Nelson - and at least two more planned (Scott County splitting, another school in Lexington). Seems its about 50/50 between split offs and mergers.
